$400 Bonus Coupon with Trade-in Towards a Google Pixel 8 Pro (128GB $849 with Trade-In Bonus) @ JB Hi-Fi

1280

Just picked one up after seeing there was an additional $400 bonus trade on top of trade value, on the already discounted P8Pro.

After considering the S24U and Z60U at double the price I just couldn't pass this up.

I traded an S21U in perfect condition ($250), bringing the total for my purchase to $605.99 shipped via fastest courier to rural QLD.

Yeah I could've got more privately, but living rural also makes that more difficult. $650 trade for my S21U seemed pretty good.

Hope this helps someone.

    • You want someone to just give you a $400 coupon?

      • -2

It's a coupon mate not real money unless you wanna buy the pixel 8 pro and the coupon will expire in few days. And I mentioned incase somebody is not planning to use it.
Free Tip: Btw one can fake trade in an apple watch, grab the coupon and later cancel the trade-in, and you don't actually need an apple watch for the process.
I can't do the above process cuz I don't have an Australian driver's license or passport for the trade in process.

    • Just lodge a pixel 5 for $1 value, it's easy.

    • You could use YOUR own ID, you know?

  • What phone gets a tradein value of $1

    • +4

      Pixel 5

    • I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 and a Pixel 5. Both in perfect working condition and no defects etc.. both are valued at $1.

  • +1

Officeworks selling the 128gb for $1237 and the 256gb for $1337. I did a Live Chat with JB and they gave me the 256gb for $1329 if you want to save a bit more $$.

  • thanks, purchased.

  • +1

Tossing up between copping this or waiting for the Pixel 9. Shame Pixels only have good deals this far into the cycle.

    • +1

Usually pre order deals are ok, but mostly in store credit.

Another six months to the 9. Some changes to the range with an additional size is rumoured.

      • Yeah that was my gripe back during the release. JB had a ripper deal for them, but the gift card came a few weeks after the phone which meant it wasn't really a direct discount but rather a store credit.

Might just have to hold out for the 9 Pro XL and hope that the wait is worth it!

        • I wonder when the Pixel 8 first dropped, was there any killer deals for the Pixel 7 lineup?

Will that be the case when the Pixel 9 drops in 6-months time? I can wait (barely) but I want those killer deals.

  • Has anyone tried using the $400 bonus without trading in the phone? Is there any non-return fee or will there be any consequences? Planning to trade in my S22, but only getting $270 + $400, whereas I am able to sell it for $410 off-market.

    • Other than them charging your card for the trade in value, no other consequences.

In a recent deal I did this. Sold my P7P on marketplace for $600 when the trade in deal was $380. I contacted the trade in company to tell them I wouldn't be sending in the phone fully expecting to be charged the $380. They cancelled the trade in and I was charged nothing, got lucky there I think.

So I upgraded to P8P while making around $100 profit. Discount was $780 including the $380 trade in value and used discounted JB vouchers to pay the balance.

      • So will they be charging me $670($400+$270) or will it be $270?

        • +1

          $270 only.

        • In this particular case they charge your credit card first.

          • @craving: So, should I just trade-in the phone via JB HiFi or claim the $400 code and not return the phone?

          • @craving: They did with me too, the charge was pending on my card. But when I contacted them to say I wasn't sending the phone in they cancelled the whole thing. I suspect somebody stuffed up and I got lucky.

  • Thanks OP, pulled the trigger on this after Samsung revoked the S24U promotion before the promo end date and basically told me tough luck

    • 😲 which one? They are really inconsistent with their deals - they announce some rubbish ones loudly then quietly do better promos.

      • One a secret sale and one edu promotion, the second one I was more annoyed as they clearly stated the end date (which was well over a week left). I guess if you consistently wait and search everyday you might cop one eventually but its hard to tell when they go on sale

        • Yeah that's what I found too, I was checking it all the time for the last couple weeks. Last secret sale wasn't enough, the current deal was the closest. They simply tweak the trade in value, trade bonus, or RRP discount to get the price they want with an illusion of a deal. So I got done waiting for it to come down to a reasonable price - I felt less than $1200 bucks
WITH an S21U as a trade was a reasonable goal but it never got there.

So P8P at this price (less than half the price of S24U as low as I could get it) is an easy to swallow compromise for me, and another trade up token if something groundbreaking does come out. I can spend all that spare money on wireless chargers 😆, or save it for the next models. Man it's gotten expensive in the last couple years buying flagships.

  • Hmm this or the pixel 8 for $700 (local deal)

  • Is there a current deal with the telstra 24 month plans that can be stacked with this?

  • Are the trade in confermation emails taking a while to come through for anyone else? been 2 hours now and nothing..Claimed at 6pm….

    • Nothing at all?

As mentioned above, for the extra bonus trade-in, you may have to click in one of the first emails to choose which voucher you get…

      • Yeah well i have not even got 1 email yet..
anyone else got theirs after 6 pm?

        • How'd you go?

          • @Rogue01: Have sent an email and awaiting response..

            • @51kabunka: I had a continual error starting the process via desktop then having to confirm my ID via mobile and then go back to desktop to finalise. Never progressed when though it says my id was confirmed. Ended up doing it all on mobile.

Didn't have any issue with emails coming through though - those were instant, as were the text messages. Did you get texts?

              • @Rogue01: Was to do with payment bouncing on my CC???? so account was on hold… Fixed now, used another card and got vouchers ! woohoo as my 6pro has just died

                • +1

@51kabunka: Glad to hear it got sorted! Mine arrived this morning, it's all transferred and setup, but waiting for a (quad lock) case before I switch fully or use it.

I did mine last night, took about an hour for the $400 voucher to come through. They actually offered me a decent price for my phone. Weirdly, the OP said he got $250 for his S21U, I got $260 for my S21 Plus, weird.

    • Yep. Mine was a 128GB S21 Ultra.

      S Series
      Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G (G998)
Turn On: Yes Turns On, capacity: 128 GB, Cosmetic Condition: No Cosmetic Defects
      1 $250

      • Makes sense, mine is a 256GB, same condition.

        • Yup, it's weird that the extra storage makes such a difference. I wonder if they can reuse the storage modules if the phone isn't worth reselling? 🤷

  • Is there any way to do the trade in without australian ID?

    • No, part of the process requires photographing your Australian ID.

Considered upgrading from my pixel 6 but according to this, they're basically the same phone.

    • +2

Can't tell if sarcastic or not so I'll answer normally: it's a huge upgrade in nearly all aspects. Screen quality, refresh rate, resolution, and brightness; processor; GPU; camera quality, quantity and type; protection/durability; longevity. Even coming from a 6 Pro you'd notice the difference - the base 6 is not in the same category. Only thing that won't have changed much, on paper at least, is battery life and charging speed but the reality might be different as some have posted above that they've noticed improvements over previous models.

      • I don't think chopper690 was being sarcastic.

      • I am in the same bucket as chopper690. My P6P works well and has no issue. Will still bite the bait if I can find some discounted JB Hi-fi GC.

  • does the 8 have any issues regarding the fingerprint scanner? sometimes I'm ready to throw my 7 against a brick wall coz of the fingerprint scanner!

    • Do you have a screen protector that impacting the fingerprint scanner?

    • When my fingers are too dry, the Pixel 7 fingerprint scanner never works lol. Check if that's your problem, try applying a very small amount of moisture to your finger and test it.

    • Havent had any issues so far - very speedy and accurate.

    • Compared to the rear fingerprint scanner it's awful

      • Compared to… what?

        • Compared to the rear fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 5 and earlier

          • @gentlekoala5906: I didn't have any issues with my 7P fingerprint scanner 🤷 I prefer the front mount on most modern high ends, but have used a rear mounted and don't mind it either. Side mounted is difficult usually. I don't even remember the 5 series sorry😬

    • Got mine yesterday, switched over to it properly today. Definitely happy with the fingerprint reader response time.

  • I do have a protector but works better with having the protector settings off!

  • +1

never ever can i unlock the phone on the first go ffs always 2nd or 3rd attempt.

    • +1

Bro the fingerprint sensor is the worst, they should have just kept the rear one.

      • +1

Can't agree more! it's infuriating! Love everything else about the phone!

    • have you tried new fingers :P

  • Always use the thumb by the way I hold the phone any other finger would be annoying to use to unlock then adjust the phone in my hand

  • Do you know a shop in Melbourne where I can sell my 8 pro 256gb ?
Good phone but not really my thing.

  • Did this deal and got the coupons pretty immediately.

Normally don't go for a case… Got a Areaphmet and amFilm screen protector, price was right and so far so good. Pro is too large to one hand and not expect to drop it so here I am.

    • Gotta have a case! I'd be too worried about cracking it. I use Quad Locks cause of the attachments for my car and motorbike - never had a phone scratch or break whilst in one either. Works with wireless charging too…

    • The official Google case is very nice

  • -4

    People still buy pixels?

  • Please suggest me with a phone decision, I am a native iphone user and have a perfectly working spare iphone 12pro, this deal which is being offered a trade value of $400 plus another $400 to get a pixel 8 pro for net $449, instead of full price of $1249.

I will be using the phone as a spare phone for few years plus as a photo capturing phone etc

    is it worth that upgrade?

    • +1

      Yes it's an upgrade.

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=10508&idPhone2=…

      Is it worth it?

Only you are going to know. If it's simply a secondary phone, maybe not? If it's going to do camera duty fairly often, then yes, you will probably find it takes some beautiful pics.

I don't like the Apple ecosystem or OS so I'm going to be fairly biased in that regard. There are likely others who will hopefully chime in with their opinions coming across from the dark side…

  • If i trade in a $1 value phone but do not return it - am i able to still use the $1 giftcard?

  • +1

    The P8P 256GB is now $1799.

    $550 more than the 128GB

    • Yeah, I missed out. Was going to get the 256GB today - wife couldn't decide between this or the iPhone 15 Pro.

Crazy that 128GB of storage cost $550!

      • Same situation. Was going to get the 256GB for the wife too. Guess she'll have to wait as not keen on the 128GB.

  • Are there any privacy concerns with the ID verification process? Who is responsible for storing the data and what can it be used for and by whom? Can this ID verification take place in store, ie. can the staff sight your ID?

  • Did anyone use the trade-in voucher worth $400 but choose not to return the phone? How did it go?

    • Yes, I did a month ago. Absolutely no issues.

I clicked through the email to chose the $400 coupon. Then contacted the trade in place before ordering the phone to tell them I have decided not to trade. Trade in was cancelled but the $400 coupon still worked fine a couple days later. Even stacked with a price match and discounted gift cards

      • Great, how can I get discounted gift cards? And price match to Officeworks pricing or is there a better price available elsewhere?
