Awesome gig and setlist. I couldn't count how many times I've watched and/or listened to this.

    • +1

Same. Too good to this day.

  • +1

I just re-listened to one of the tracks yesterday, cover of David Bowie's Man who sold the world. Not bad.

    • The negging on this site is getting ridiculous!

      • Who’s getting negged?

        • Apart from you?
          TEER3X was originally negged.

          • @sam buster: Ah I didn’t see TEER3X’s or my negs.

            Bored individuals I guess?

      • To be honest, half the negs come from people with fat thumbs. It's too easy to hit that instead of +1. And you can't undo it 😐

        • I just negged you comment to test your theory (hope you don't mind). I managed to 'undo' it. I think I pressed the +, then I pressed the + again.

$42 for Nevermind cheaper than finding an original copy

“Pop grunge” interesting take on what genre they fit into

    • +1

It was just grunge until they started appearing on band t shirts again in 2015 I guess.

      • I still have my Nirvana shirt from when I was obsessed with the band in high school. That was 2011 and from JayJays at the time. The Nirvana "resurgence" by way of appearing on shirts is older than 2015 for sure

        • I just picked a year without thinking too much tbh

    • Pop grunge lol. Have you listened to in utero?

      • I ended up liking In Utero more than Nevermind, probably because they flogged Nevermind to death on the radio.

        Radio…..now I feel old🙄.

    • I wrote pop grunge because, let’s say you listen to Bullhead (1991) by Melvins, then listen to Nirvana’s Nevermind from the same year and you’ll see what I mean by “pop grunge”, whereas Melvins were what I’d call “grunge”.

Don’t take my word for it, have a listen and see for yourself.

      • I agree it's pop grunge, but not for the reasons you stated…. only because it's grunge and was extremely popular in the 90s.

        • Yes the terms “grunge” and “alternative” were thrown around so much in the 90’s some of us coined them “the most worn out terms of the decade”. So much so, a bunch of us were very happy when the clock struck midnight on January 1st 2000 lol.

This place is starting to resemble a yard sale

    • It’s garage sale in Oz thank you very much and no, I don’t want old Kenny Rodgers & Dolly Parton records.

  • +3

"Yard sale"? How is the USA this morning?

    Thanks, OP. Great album!

Great album. Got it on CD when it was first released. I remember people calling it “The MTV Undrugged” album because of Kurt’s drug problem. What could have been if he was still alive.

For those who like their live music, get your hands on “from the muddy banks of the Wishkah”. Another awesome live album from them.

    • +2

Mate this album meant the world to me and my friends in highschool. 96-97

    • Very interesting about the “MTV Undrugged” info, I’ve never heard that one before?

I remember getting a book that MTV released back in the 90’s called “Unplugged” and it had all the artists that had performed the unplugged sets and a few pages dedicated to each in the book. I remember reading Nirvana’s chapter and they said when MTV was in talks with how the band wanted the stage set up, Kurt kept insisting he wanted “flowers and candles everywhere!”. One of the stage designers said to Kurt “Like a funeral?” and Kurt replied “Exactly, like a funeral”.
That lead people to believe Kurt was already planning to do away with himself, but if you watch interviews with Buzz and Dale from Melvins on YouTube, they said Kurt had attempted suicide before by overdose and nearly died when Nirvana were touring for In Utero, in Rome late 93 or early 94, which I can’t remember exactly??

    • Forgot to say, have you ever listened to the From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah on vinyl? It has an interesting D side that isn’t included in the digital release.

      • The 2nd last track called “the eagle has landed “ where her tells all the bootleggers to go ahead and go? If so that’s on my CD too.

        • Which CD release do you have, I’ve never heard of that track before, on the CD release at least?

The D side of the second LP according to Discogs is titled “Excerpts Of Band / Audience Bulls*!##ing & Rantings” which pretty much explains it, plus it’s been quite some time since I’ve listened to it.

          • @scooba: OK let me clarify, on the CD when they introduce the track right at the end of the Breed track, they call it "the eagle has landed" but on the back of the CD, the track name is "Tourette's" which I now realise is from In Utero so the CD probably doesn't have that hidden track. Sorry my bad, I got confused because they introduce the sone as one they have not released and call it "the eagle has landed".

            • @D1977: I just had a listen to the end of Breed track from the live Wishkah album and I heard what you were talking about. Not sure if that's included on the D side of the Wishkah vinyl release as I haven't listened to it in a while but it's a whole side of what you described at the end of the Breed track.

I remember one outtake from the vinyl in which Kurt says to the audience "If you throw water at me again, I'm going to put my guitar in front of my amp and leave you with feedback for the next hour" lol.

  • "Pop grunge".

    • For those two albums anyway, Bleach was more grunge….

      • I'm not sure you know what 'pop' is.

        • No, I guess you aren’t?

          • @scooba: I was a teenager when Nirvana Unplugged came out and I can 100% assure you that no-one on Earth referred to it as "pop" because… it's not pop.

            • @caitsith01: As was I and no, no one called it pop, but it was pop, hence the term “pop grunge”. Would you prefer “grunge pop”? Has a name nicer ring to it I suppose…

              • @scooba: I suppose any combination of grunge/rock/blues/folk is out of the question despite those being the actual genres covered by the album.

                • @caitsith01: Considering I was silly enough to make up the "pop grunge" thing, I could let it go this time, Although Nevermind had 5 singles released into the charts which did very well and About A Girl from Unplugged was flogged to death on the radio 4 times a day when you were tuned in to Triple M, I think it's safe to say we can call it "pop" of it's time. Mind you, I wouldn't say the same for Bleach, especially Papercuts or Sifting from that album, if only Kurt and Co. kept that as Nirvana's sound….

  • +1

great band, but pixies were better!

    • +1

      No need to compete.

    • Kurt liked the Pixies so we’re all friends here and yes, Doolittle is up there with the best of them.

  • Why can't I subscribe to the 'vinyl record' tag?

    • I’m not sure why hey?

Hey Mods, any help with this??

    • Try now. It wasn't previously a product category tag, but I have set it now.

      • Awesome, thanks Hamza. It works

  • Where did you sleep last night. Brilliant performance

    Btw, pop grunge…..

    • -1

Unfortunately I didn’t I was in ED with a family member who was unwell, hence the early morning posts plus listening to the Autechre album I bought then posted whilst the person was away having tests then resting.

Yes, “pop grunge”, because Melvin’s(real grunge)ruined Nirvana for me lol.

    • I just realised you were talking about the Leadbelly cover on that album, not asking me the question lol.
