The power of curve compels you

  • Just broke my monitor and was finding a new one. great price, ty op

    • How did you break your monitor? Split in half?

  • Anyone know whether there any good JB HiFi gift card deals to stack with this?

  • just asked JB a deal for 1450, 4090 is on the way, so no need to get it now

    • How did u knock down to $1450

  • Just went to go buy the 27inch version and it's on backorder until May. Looks like I won't be using my PC for another month as I don't have a spare monitor :(

  • I just bought this for full price not three days ago ;_;

Is anyone able to comment on text fringing with OLED displays and how bothersome you find it? I assume for movies and gaming OLED is amazing, but how do you find it for browsing, coding, etc.

    • +2

The pink fringing around text isn't that bad at all. Noticeable when looking closely, for sure, but not enough to be really distracting. However, I wouldn't be buying this or any QD-OLED monitor as a productivity screen, the risk of burn in and noticeablely shortening the lifespan of the monitor is just too great, especially with static elements like VSCode windows etc. Also the SDR brightness isn't very good (max 250 nits), especially for daytime use. It's meant for content consumption first and foremost, gaming and videos

    • I code on it 8 hours a day. It's noticeable in MacOS, less so in Windows. I don't find it particularly bothersome, but for others it's a dealbreaker, so YMMV.

    • I find it not very bothersome. Clarity is still way above a 1440p LCD, but only a little below a 4k LCD

  • Any chance Dell would price match this? Might try it tomorrow when their live chat is open.

    • +1

I tried, they wouldn't because its a back order

      • Haha jokes on them now as you can stack student discount with the price match

  • I once ordered a delivery only CD box-set from them, a few weeks later they just canceled my order and said they didn't have any stock.

  • This or 42" lg OLED TV?

    • +2

I've just moved from the 42" LG C2 to this monitor, not regretting it as I felt the TV was a bit big on my desk, the 32" size is perfect. For shooters and fast paced stuff like Rocket League and other games that can make use of the 240hz, it's fantastically fast and fluid, lower input lag than the LG and it feels great. Will pair really well in the future with an RTX 5080 or something that can push the framerate on AAA titles a bit higher

I do feel the overall brightness is a bit dimmer on the Alienware, however the HDR can be more impactful as it can do 1000 nits in small parts of the screen (especially in a dark room at night) and the colour is arguably quite a bit more saturated and it just "pops" more. It's very hard to fault, it just needs some ABL tweaks in firmware and the screen coating is very soft and you just have to be gentle with it

I paid about $1750, shame I didn't get it for this price but I'm not going to go through the return process with Dell as I have one that's pretty much perfect

    • LG OLED for the reasons below.
      - Bigger screen
      - Looks good in all viewing conditions. The QD OLED's turn grey under ambient light
      - Significantly cheaper if you can wait
      - LG replaces all OLED's with burn in regardless of warranty
      - Higher brightness for HDR
      - Has all the TV functions

    • The size is the biggest factor. Get whichever suits your situation better.

Dont quite understand the curve hate, i have this monitor and i literally can not ask for a better monitor, it is stunning and the curve is so suble i dont even know its there. its needed in my opinion as it makes the end to end of the screen similar distances to your eyes so you dont have to refocus every time you dash your eyes left and right.

in saying that, the curve is hardly noticeable when sitting in the middle.

    this monitor is incredible

  • Mine had burn in after 3 months :( trashy support said I bought it knowing it was possible and they can’t do anything

    • Is that AW3225QF?

    • +1

      That's bs just try again.

  • Essentially it's this or the C3 (when on sale) for the same money.

This has higher DPI, higher refresh rate, a curve, smaller size, better stand and PC-first design, with 3yr warranty.
The C3 has pure size, flatness, overall brightness and perhaps slightly better colour rendition (?), TV-first design and LG reliability (?).

I don't think I can fit 42 inches on my desk. So am leaning towards this.

Regardless I'm going to need a 4080+ soon whichever way I go!

Dell website is also the same price
Not sure if student discount is applicable
I already ordered from jb hifi with afterpay 🥲

Thanks! Just got it for 1,411.76 with the 7% code.

      • Boom. That's what I was waiting for. Bought. Wonder if we get immediate shipping from Dell…? 22.04 it says. Nice

        • +1

Apart from shipping time. Dell has better customer support eg: return within 30 days if you are not happy

          • @changunsw: Yeh I know - exactly why I was waiting to see if they'd price match.

Dell customer support (especially for business) is exceptional, frankly as they seem to not care and just want to resolve things as fast as possible from my experiences over the years.

    • Thanks. Just cancelled my order from JB and bought from Dell instead

  • Delivery by May 14th? Wtf?

  • +5

For anyone who received this monitor from Dell in the last 30 days, now that Dell have price matched, you can get a partial refund. The online chat was useless, but when I called their customer care phone line they sorted out the refund within a few minutes. Getting $333 back, not too shabby!

    • Fantastic, cheers for this!

    • Great news

    • +1

Just following up, the customer rep I spoke to said it's better to submit a service request for the order before calling, which they can then directly handle. Just saves 10 mins as my rep had to create a request for me and respond to it.

Why the hate with curved monitors? I can't even look at a straight monitor any more. It hurts my brain.

  • Paid $1.9K a week ago… fml
    What can I do?
edit: By the way this monitor is super sweet. I don't even care if I overpaid. Just be prepared to get a new graphics card if you want to run 4K games with ray tracing. I've got a 3080ti and it can't handle cyber punk on max settings with ray tracing maxed out.

    • +1

If you bought it from Dell you can call and ask for the Price Guarantee. if it's been less than 30 days you'll get the difference refunded.

      • Thank you amigo. I'll let you guys know how I go 😬

  • +1

Quite surprised to see such a nice bargain merely 2 months in after its release. But does anyone have any experience on the possibility of the pricing going even lower when the EOFY comes? I mean EOFY sales are practically in 5-6 weeks, and if the disount can go bigger than the current 20%, it's prolly worth the wait?

  • My 27 inch arrived today, pretty fast service. Going to check it out later today when I got time.
