Remember when eastern culture and tightarse were the kings of ozbargain. What happened

    • +4

They funneled enough Ozsheep into their businesses and have made big buck.

      • That’s interesting. Would love to know more?

      • typo, they "made a big duck"

        ….and now they're gone

  • How’s the reception on this? Would like to know the actual review of it, I know there’s a coverage map but I tried more telecom before and their coverage map was good but I ended up having a bad experience with reception. I know others might not have the same issue.

TLDR what’s the anecdotal evidence of the reception of Kogan mobile and yes I’m mostly in the city

    • +2

From a friend who used Vodafone 4G in Adelaide, it's either hit or miss

      • more miss then hit. im in sydney and it is very spotty.

        • Yeah, thats why for my main number im on optus.

    • +2

I had such bad reception (Perth suburbs) that I left Kogan mobile. Their support was also almost impossible to contact because you had to call them, which rather ironically I couldn't do, because their reception was so poor.

      • I came from Telstra network (Boost) amd pretty dissapointed with the reception. Weaker signal in Perth and useless in the country.

Will being going back to Boost.

        • +4

Tbh you shouldn't be comparing it to boost at all though. Boost is telstra, so it's supposed to be better (the best, in fact)

It would be like comparing a Toyota to a BMW and saying, "I'm disappointed with the toyota. Going back to BMW" - they're two products that aren't even "playing the same game"

          • +2

@illumination: But the Toyota engineering is better than BMW…😊

            • @willyroo: I mean, depending on the Toyota, this example is pretty bad. The Supra is a BMW under the hood. ;) … joke's aside, I am an advocate for Boost, and shouldn't be compared to other MVNOs. Boost uses the FULL Telstra 4G/5G network (with some speed caps), so you're getting the full Telstra coverage. My experience with Vodafone before this was pretty spotty. I mean, the reception was meh - but at least Vodafone's support was reachable. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been trying to contact Kogan should I have an issue. Whilst, overall, Vodafone was OK for the most part… I would not go back.

@illumination: Telstra isn't what they used to be since the 5G roll out. I am asking people with Optus phones for a hotspot so that I can order maccas at shopping centres. Phone shows 4 bars but data doesn't work.

          • @illumination: On a hot day, I see way more BMW unable to cope. Don't seem to be made for non euro environments.

          • @illumination: Dont disagree that they are different price points, however I think its worth spending the extra for Boost but YYMV.

Just grab a cheap 1 month SIM. Everyone's comments will be different on here so it's really pointless asking. You really need to try it for yourself (with all networks) and there is a very cheap way to do that.

    • I never had a problem in greater Melbourne and environs.

  • Seems most telcos have dropped international calling from the 365 plans as far as I can find only Coles /boost do or if anyone can suggest some others.

    • +1

You need to purchase an add on with Kogan for international calls (different options). Same with a few others.

Lebara also includes international calls on their plans, just need to make sure that the inclusions are suitable for you as they are different across plans.

      • +1

However you can still receive messages while overseas.

    • +1

Amaysim,Boost,Lebara still offer International calls on their 365 day plans.

      • +1

For amaysim it's on some but not on others.

Does anyone know if I can use this on my cellular iPad?

    • +1

      yes you can

    • +1

yeah you can use it on your cellular ipad.

    • +1

You can use all SIM cards on an iPad, as long as it has data included, which it does.
Data SIM and regular SIM cards are identical, other than data only SIM cards have voice calls blocked.

  • awesome deal thanks op

  • Can I get this as an existing customer? Plan is about to expire.

    • Would love to know too

    • +4

Yes you can, it says so on the plan page

  • +1

Purchase by 07/05 and activate by 31/05

  • Can this be used for an Apple Watch?

    • No prepaid service in Australia works on Apple Watch with any network, as no NumberSync exits on Australian prepaid services.

      • Any documentation on this anywhere?

  • +1

I regret choosing "30 days at a time" scheme, is there a way to change it into "all at once"?

  • Signed up yesterday to 120gb plan from woollies mobile sim to kogan esim. Took almost 24 hours to port over and a few calls to techs support to finally get it going as the port itself took 2 hours but the esim kept showing emergency calls only. The first two techs I spoke to were useless and even told me to google or YouTube the fix myself. The 3rd tech was finally able to do something on the back end and resolve my issue. But so far so good reception and fast speeds in Melbourne area.

  • This or the amaysim deal? Anybody had experience with these providers in Sydney? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/841618

    • I find Amaysim better in sydney - though both have no 5G access. In the cbd i found amaysim to outperform the voda network. Sometimes both can be good too

Wait, didn’t these just $150 for 500GB last financial year?

    • +1

Yep, I'm holding out for 50% off in June, such as was available in June 2023 and June 2022.

  • Use your AMEX offer to get $10 back

  • Can I churn from Vodafone to Kogan directly?

    • both suck, but yes you can.

      • Do I need to do anything special since both are in same network?

        • nope, you just port over your same # and you are good to go within a few hours usually
don't do it on the weekend, they can't get to it until monday

  • can i use the gift cards from woolies to pay this?

    • Yeah from memory you can.

  • +1

Pity the reception is shit. My service was basically unusable for 2/3rds on my daily train commute.

I switched to Boost and couldn't be happier.

  • How is this compared to Vodafone? I know Kogan also uses Vodafone but are there any benefits to paying a bit extra for Vodafone?

    • You get 5G and 240GB for $149 by going to Vodafone directly
Otherwise, you get more data for your dollar with the 300GB+ plans with Kogan albeit no 5G

  • I picked up one of their sims and already regret it as number hasn't even ported yet over 3 days already
