Samsung 11" Galaxy Tab A9+ Wi-Fi 128GB 8GB RAM - Graphite $299 Delivered @ Catch

910

Most likely a price error since the 64GB is the same price and item description says memory is 64GB. I managed to price match to JB-Hi-Fi via chat. Not sure about stores because I asked a worker and they said no.
Also tried at Officeworks and they spent 10mins trying to find if it’s legit or not (Didn’t let me price beat).

Literally added it to the description the same time you commented :)

      • The silver seems to have the correct description 128GB of storage.

        • Yes got the silver to be safe. But would t be too pissed if they cancel it as price error lol

          • @bazinga8888: So I ordered the silver 128gb, invoice says 128gb and so does the site. But they sent a 64gb. Lawfully what should I be asking for?

            • @DariusFox: Did you get anywhere with them?
I contacted support and they said they'll look into it but haven't heard back

  • -3

Don't get why anyone would choose this over the Xiaoxin pad pros off aliexpress. Esp given the current prices they go for.

    • +8

      This has a warranty?

      • Sold by catch so should be local stock with locla warranty

      • Yup. 2 years manufacture.

    • +16

Agreed. I replaced a Tab A8 (from the Optus deal) with a Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 (Snapdragon 870 + OLED) and the Lenovo is vastly superior in almost all aspects, except maybe build quality and the lack of warranty.

The Tab A8 had one of the worst screens (weird colour cast, poor colour rendition, bad viewing angles) I've seen on a phone or tablet and was so sluggish that it was almost unusable. I don't know how much an improvement the Tab A9 is but I doubt I'll go near Samsung's budget lines again.

      • +3

you fail to mention lenovo's atrocious track record around (not) supporting their android tablets beyond the release date of the next model update (i.e. 12 months max). what version of android are you running on that Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022? doubt you will get the next version, not to mention the security updates will stop real soon too, if they havent already - not sure how much of an issue this is? meanwhile the samsung will probably get at least 2 more android versions, and security updates for years.

        • Fair comment. This is my first Lenovo tablet, so I suspect updates will certainly be an issue going forward. It's running Android 13 (it came with Android 12 but I updated immediately), so one version behind the latest. It's received 2 security updates in the ~6 months I've had it, so Lenovo's record there is also poor.

The Tab A8 was a non-starter for me with the terrible screen and performance issues but I'm pretty satisfied with the Lenovo overall, updates or not.

          • +1

@TurkeyBargain: android 13 is actually pretty good for a 2022 lenovo android tablet. i am a little regretful about getting the global rom 2021 version of your tablet (seems like the same specs though, 870 etc) which is stuck on android 11, no OTA updates on that global rom, no security updates. I dont know much about flashing ROMs, dunno if i will bother, just keep the tablet for basic web surfing, youtube, media consumption, avoid online banking/shopping etc. yes, it is fast/responsive, the screen is great. my son's samsung tab a7 is woefully slow, but it now has android 12 on it, and security updates were still coming in early this year.

            • @sclyde2: Is it possible to flash the China ROM to your Pad Pro? (I seem to recall some people on XDA were moving in the other direction from the China ROM to the global ROM.) I'd be pretty disappointed too if I was stuck on Android 11.

The China ROM seems OK to me other than a very small amount of residual Chinese text in the UI and the fact that you have to update the Play Store through the Lenovo App Store. Android 13 is OK for my use case for the next couple of years at least, but as you said, I'm not holding my breath for an update to 14.

            • @sclyde2: There's no official global ROM for your 2021 Pad Pro, as there's no global variant of that particular tablet. My Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 (Lenovo P11 Pro Gen 2) MediaTek Kompanio 1300T is flashed to the official global ROM. It gets updates occasionally and will receive android 14 later this year. It's also safe to store sensitive information (banking, online shopping) as the bootloader isn't unlocked with a custom ROM or unofficial ROM,

          • @TurkeyBargain: I bought the Precision pen 3 for $150 AUD. Worth it imo.

        • +2

          Always research first before speculating.

Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 (P11 Pro 2nd Gen) ships with Android 12, already on Android 13 and Android 14 later this year. Security updates cease 30/11/25.

The Lenovo update matrix is public.

          • -1

@Clear: I think I've seen that page before. I can't seem to find my tablet on there (tb-j716f). Also not sure which one Turkeybargain has on there either (they mentioned theirs has a 870 in it). Maybe that list doesn't have china-market-only models on it.

            • @sclyde2: Always check your facts before posting

            • @sclyde2: You need to look at the global equivalent of the Chinese tabs because if they have one you can use the Lenovo RSA tool to reflash them to the proper global ROM. Hence why I know what my Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 will receive Android 14. ZUI usually gets even more Android updates.

I checked the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro that you have on there. Ships with 10 and updated to 11 on the global ROM. For the Chinese version there's Android 12 (ZUI) available. Unfortunately pre-2022 tablets don't get the same level of support as the newer tablets.

              • @Clear: "Lenovo Tab P11 Pro" on that page is a TB-J706L, seems like a different tablet, has a snapdragon 730, not the 870 mine has.

What is the model number of your "Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022" and what processor does it run? Is it the 870 that Turkeybargain has?

                • @sclyde2: My Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 was converted to the global Pro 2nd Gen so I'll get Android 14 under the global ROM. If I have the Snapdragon variant with ZUI I'd get Android 14 too and potentially Android 15 since ZUI gets more support.

Lenovo China develops ZUI first and then they develop the global ROM. ZUI gets more attention and features.

                  • @Clear: So,what is the model # and processor in your "Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022"?

                    • @sclyde2: tb132fu and Kompanio 1300T. This and the Snapdragon version were both released in China while the Kompanio was also released globally, hence you can run both global and China ROM on the Kompanio.

The Snapdragon is China only so you can only run the China ROM. Like the Kompanio version it ships with Android 12, has received 13 and will receive 14. If Lenovo China decide to give it extra special treatment it may get Android 15.

Makes sense or still not clear?

                      • @Clear: now that you answered the simple question, yes it is clear. i.e. that almost all your statements don't apply to either turkeybargain's or my china-only tablets.

for your statements that are actually on the topic of this sub-thread (relating to our china-only 870 snapdragon tablets), are those based on research of "official" things like a lenovo update matrix that actually covers these tablets - if so, do you have a link? or is it based on speculation?

if such an official update matrix exists, i'm guessing it'd be in chinese, but i've become a bit more adept with google lens lately.

i am a bit pessimistic about lenovo putting out such official plans though. after not checking for a while, i had another look now, and, scattered through comments on various sites & forums, it appears that my tablet recently (late 2023) went onto zui 15 (android 13), which sounds like quite the (pleasant) surprise for many tablet owners.

i think the biggest mistake i made was going with a global rom, which is really a "global rom". i.e. unofficial, dodgy, no updates. when i can bothered, i will look into my options around getting it updated, either switching to the china rom and get OTA update (if that is possible), or do some kind of side loading.

as for newer lenovo tablets getting better/longer update support, tell that to those who bought the legion y700 2022 edition - but maybe there's some pleasant surprises for this one soon too. we'll see how they go with the 2023 version, which might get better treatment given that they are releasing it outside of china now.

long story short though, it is a bit of a lottery with lenovo when it comes to updates, especially for those china-only versions.

TAB A8 Is worst screen I have seen on a tablet. I am looking to get rid of mine also.

      • The Lenovo looks like a good tablet from a hardware pov but there’s nothing in the Android world yet that’ll switch me away from my old tab S5e. Even if the performance is poor nowadays, still choose to use it more often than my M powered iPad Pro. Also I don’t like the bigger screens on these newer tablets. Rather a smaller oled one. To me the A series tablets have always been a bit of a bad value proposition unless they are on sale for a significant discount. Better off normally paying a little more and keeping the device for longer. My tab S5e didn’t cost much more than this around 5 years ago.

      • Funny you should say this after the catch saga (editing the page after purchase and then sending a 4gb) that is exactly what I ordered for myself.

For $300 I would have been happy with the 8gb model and local warranty.

For around the same price im getting a nicer tablet.

People feel weird about Chinese hardware

      • +2

if it was a toaster sure, but I wouldn't really trust it for logging into my bank and everything else, even connecting something like that to your wifi can be exploited even on devices just on your network. it is wild to me seeing people buy cheap chinese routers and phones and not even second guessing it.

        • That's what the media wants you to believe, and it seems they did a good job. The "people" you mentioned, they are just normal customers without political bias.

        • +2

Americans are the same as Chinese in getting and using your information. I think you would be aware of Facebook selling customers' information to a UK-based company.

      • +1

And yet buy hardware manufactured in China with a Samsung logo slapped on.

    • +2

Large portions of the buying market dont trust companies owned/associated with the chinese communist party.

      • +5

And they're uneducated fools. A small amount of reseach on the hardware (snapdragon) and software (android) will tell you that all the internals are American. But because its a Chinese brand, its gonna come alive and kill your family. Also how is that Thinkpad you're using in the office? Killed your family yet?

        • +3

Exactly, morons don't realise their Apple products are also manufactured in China, no difference using a global official ROM from Lenovo.

        • -1

Calm down, you sound crazy 🤪

    • Resell value and security/os updates are the main factors to consider. Upgraded 2 A8 to 2 A9 8gb ram this year. Definitely can see the improvement in term of speed. I can stream 4K cctv without lag from A9 8gb ram model. Also the screen qulity is better than A8. I sold both A8 on facebook marketplace and eBay approx $360 and purchase the A9s under $300 so literally making profit for upgrading except losing the 4g sim connectivity where i dont need it anyway.

  • 8gb ram sounds promising

  • No pen support otherwise would have grabbed one for uni

  • The title says 128 but the listof features states 64gb?!

    • +3

      See @Doineedthis post above

The silver seems to have the correct description 128GB of storage.

I didn't need it but ordered a silver to be safe.

      • +2

        That's the spirit.

        • All my tablets "work" but they are very old (Ipad 4th gen, Suface Go 1 8gb and Samsung tab a 8.0)

Rather extend the life of the surface go as once it gets a spicy pillow it will be hard to replace.

Will be nice to have something newer.

      • I ordered the same thing, mine just arrived but 64GB….let me know what you got?

        • Well that sucks. Mine has shipped but yet to arrive. Lets hope mine is not 64gb also.

  • +1

I have the 4gb model and I'm very happy with it. Very snappy. Great screen, great sound. Can't fault it. I paid ~$240.

    100% media consumption.

    • Ordered the Mrs an 8gb /128gb model a couple of weeks ago to replace an ipad 6 that has a cooked battery. She is happy with it.

Now to replace the battery (have the parts should be fun lol)

  • Thanks OP!

My old Surface Pro took a tumble recently, been looking for something to replace it, not quite like for like but should do the job. JB Chat priced match for me, just gotta decide I actually want it and purchase it before midnight AEST

  • Thanks OP just managed to sneak in before 8pm to get a price match before JB online chat closed

    • Ditto. I wanted a second one but missed their 8Pm deadline to add to the link

  • +1

Nice one op got price match $293

  • Soldout

  • +1

    "TFT LCD" eww

    • What do you expect with this price tag?

      • Oled 2K

        • Please tell me which tablet offers OLED under $300?

          • @dtingy: The only tablet I can recall seeing with a oled was the duet 5 deal. But that was the 4gb model, which supposedly had performance issues and a Chromebook tablet. The Chinese models with way better hardware than this seem to be on sale more around the $400 price point.

  • Both colours now out of stock.

Silver was available so I set up a OnePass trial, and when I was directed back to the store it had sold out …

  • Snagged one. Next challenge protective case for energetic 5yo girl?

  • Missed out :(

  • +4

Thanks OP. Managed to price match with jb hifi and got $10 off from jb hifi perks + $8.67 cashback from Cashrewards using gift cards, which in the end came down to $280.33

  • OOS….I hope they restock tomorrow.

  • Paid $370 for the 64Gb 2 weeks ago from Officeworks!

    • Return it if is not opened yet. 128Gb has 8Gb of RAM which will be more useful for longer term.

      • I wish. It's opened.

        Nevermind.

    • Was it urgent or something?

It's regularly on sale for well under $300.

      • No idea. It was for a gift and everywhere had them for 380.

        Jb, ow, Amazon, Etc.

        Must've been unlucky.

  • Kiwi here. I ordered the graphite from the .co.nz site. It has been dispatched. The product listed in my order history is titled "Samsung 11 Galaxy Tab A9+ Wi-Fi 128GB - Graphite" but the hyperlink takes me to a 64Gb Graphite model listed as sold out. It looks like they retrospectively adjusted that product page to make it look like my order was indeed for the 64Gb version. Perhaps someone who ordered the Silver can check also?

    • +1

I was concerned over the same thing. But I took screenshots of the description of my order, and also checked the actual tax invoice and it says "Samsung 11"Galaxy Tab A9+ Wi-Fi 128GB - Graphite".

Interestingly, the Graphite 128gb I added to my Catch wish list changed to 64gb so it appears they updated the contents of the product page. The Silver 128gb is still the same, unchanged in my wish list.

      Let's see what gets delivered.

      • I did the same with the screenshots of everything throughout the purchase. Waiting game now. I'll keep this thread updated when I get the goods.

        • I ordered the Silver 128GB, took screenshots and the invoice even says 128GB. Just received mine but it's 64GB. Does anyone know the correct process of getting what I ordered?

      • I had a graphite in my cart and noticed it also changed to 64GB. I wonder if they realised their error after they'd all been sent out!

  • I had ordered silver but just received the 4GB 64GB one :(

    • Me too, got mine today but 64GB. Check your invoice, mine says 128GB.

      • Same here, my invoice says 128GB, so what's the deal? Return and refund?

        • +2

I'm thinking they will be busy processing alot of Tab A9+ returns :p

          • @bazinga8888: @bazinga8888 Bazinga indeed.

Pre emptively containing catch to see what the process is.

My delivery is slower out my way but I dont like my chances of 8gb/128gb.

The jb price matchers were the real winners here by the sounds of it.

          • @bazinga8888: I did the return for a full refund.
Lodge a Return request and state -> wrong item received.
Catch stealth edit my request to "Change of mind" upon the approval.

At least they can't modify the description, i wote product listed as 128gb but a cheaper 64gb was sent. This is misleading advertising.

            • @bazinga8888: is it worth returning it or keeping? they might said for an exchange but i doubt they have stock for 128gb

              • @christian: From history for 64gb $299 isn't a great deal, but still a deal better than RRP price. But i'll return it if you don't need immediately, EOFY nearing soon anways.

                • @bazinga8888: $299 isnt a great deal for me as the 128gb goes on sale for sub $400 and even sub $350 on occasion.

Ive initiated the return process of the 64gb

            • @bazinga8888: I explicitly told them not to change it based on what you posted and they didnt.

Rmaed and the tab is back on its way to catch (packed much better than their just chuck it in a box with no protection and room to shake)

Xiaoxin pad pro 2022 is on its way instead.

    • A stealth edit has been done to the sliver page now to say its 64gb model.

  • I received 64gb today

  • same 64gb.

  • Ditto. Just completed the RMA form to get a refund or exchange.

  • received 64gb too. so pissed off, its a present for my daughters birthday on Sunday.

  • decided to keep the 64gb, contacted Catch and received a $15 refund ($284 is their current price for 64gb)
