Powerful Yet Lightweight Laptop for Travel (Non-Gaming)

Hi All, any recommendations for a quality travel laptop… it needs to be:

  • powerful (strong CPU, SSD, RAM).
  • lightweight (1.35KG or less).
  • travel friendly (rugged design, decent battery life).
  • size 14" or above

Not interest in Apple or Chromebooks either. And it won't be used for gaming, more productivity. Not too worried about budget.

Whats the pick of the bunch at the moment?

Apple Silicon currently fits the lightweight and powerful criteria better than anything else on the market until the new Snapdragon ARM SoCs come out later this year.

  • As fruit brand hater there is possibly only Asus left to consider.

  • surface pro is 13.3, there may be a brand premium but nothing like apple and really can't fault it as a travel laptop/tablet. good range of accessories. I travel with it + a portable monitor and use it at home as well with a dock - I set it up with monitors/peripheries etc and just need to plug it in to the usbc port for a workstation.

    • I have one, but would not call it rugged! The soft & loose keyboard cover gives little protection for the screen in your bag.

      • I have a case for it plus the type cover which makes it fairly sturdy. I've thrown it around and never really worried much about it

  • I rate my Asus Zenbook OLED 14.. there is models that will meet your CPU, SSD, RAM requirement and the weight should be pretty close.

The OLED also has different resolutions available.

Build quality is good with one annoying exception, there is a vent in the centre on the hinge side which is right where you would you would want to pick it up from, obviously the vent is a weak point of the bottom case… Hasn't broken on me yet but I'm cautious of it.

  • If you weren't a hater I'd say an Apple silicon iPad is an ideal travel companion. Enough power to edit vlogs and images on the road.

  • Windows laptop that is powerful and have good battery life? Haven't seen one yet, I have an ASUS ROG with dedicated GFX card and can get 5-6 hours battery life out of it.

Got a MacBook Air M3 last week and been using it all day without a worry about battery. Runs all my CAD and design software without an issue.

Still keep my ASUS as I have some RIP software that is Windows only until I can find a suitable Mac replacement.

  • Lenovo Yoga 9i. Best all round laptop that is highly portable.

  • lightweight (1.35KG or less) and 14" ? Lol

  • I would honestly go with the pavilion x360 series but with 16 gb of ram. They are pretty good all round computers while still being more productive than gaming. Additionally most have touchscreens which is nice for drawing and such. It is also only 1.51 Kg. If you are willing to go with refurbished you can get one for just below $1250 hp.
