  • This is a great watch.

  • Great watch, a bit big perhaps depending on your wrist size!

  • More than half off RRP. That is a good deal for a great watch. I would get it but I've got so many 21,600 bph watches I really want to avoid more. I like the a slightly more smooth 28,800 bph. Movement is essentially a ETA 2836. 80 hr power reserve which is excellent.

So tempted, wish it was 28,800 bph movement.

      Skip 28,800 and get a 36,000 Hi-Beat

      • I have two 36,000 beaters already :-)

        • which ones?

          • @rosebank: Both are vintage Seiko Lord Marvel watches. Beautiful watches and really nice movements. They are also very affordable. I've got a linen dial version (manufactured '72) with applied arabic numerals and a silver sunburst dial version (manufactured '74) with applied indices. Gorgeous watches. Favourites of my collection.

              @airtime: Vintage hi-beats are dope.

            • @airtime: Where is the best place to find decent timepieces like these? I’ve always wondered how you can be assured you’re buying something that still works well and not a heap ‘o junk that’s just labelled ‘vintage’ because it looks old.

              • @Chazzozz: It depends on your risk appetite, availability and price you want to pay. It also depends on the watch as some are known to available as fakes/replicas and frakens.

Ebay can be a good source but you need to know your watches if there is a chance there are fakes or frankens of the model you are looking for.

Chrono24.com can be a lower risk option due to their better buyer protections and more reliable seller information.

The best protection is knowledge. Know the watch you want to buy inside and out, literally.

You also need to accept that sometimes you will get unlucky and have a movement stop working outside of the buyer protection period. That is just part of the game and need to incorporate servicing costs into the overall costs to be considered. For vintage watches this can be an issue - not every watchmaker is comfortable with every watch / movement.

                • @airtime: Thanks. I always figured that servicing would be at least one common hurdle, but it stands to reason fakes would be another one and I didn't even consider frankens. It confirms for me that, at present, I would be far outside of my depth when looking at vintage watches.

      • Next step up for me would be Spring Drive. But I struggle with the idea of paying Seiko's asking prices for what is mostly an electronic movement. But oh, so silky smooth. The cheaper option is a Bulova Precisionist which runs the second hand at 8Hz. I have an older one of those but it is almost the ugliest watch I own, never gets worn.

        • Spring Drives are excellent movements, and I get that purists would argue it's "electronic", but idc.

The smoothest watch I own is a Bulova Jet Star 262khz

Be aware, Amazon will still make you pay tax on this at it's above $1k RRP.

I bought one last deal but was charged $250ish for the import fee shortly after purchase… Ended up cancelling.

Still a very good price for this watch, but final price is closer to $1000.

oh wow, im out. if i see 709 price, i want to pay 709.

    • Thanks for the warning, love these Hamiltons.

      • parcel arrived from JP today. no additional duty paid.
will claim TRS on the next trip abroad.

  • Anyone got one and can confirm the colour? It looks quite green here but if you google image search the model it can look grey or even black (and yes they're all the 'Khaki' model).

    eg https://www.fratellowatches.com/hamilton-khaki-field-day-dat…

It looks great with the darker face, so not sure if the Amazon photos are just over exposed? In that link above one of the comments says that the same model seems to come in different colours so want to be sure

The only thing I can't handle is the comic sans font on this.

    • +2

If you are referring to the western arabic numerals, most field watches use a similar font for high legibility. These are tool watches.

      • I never knew this! That's insightful really, thanks for that.

  • Looks like it is out of stock now.
