I had took similar offer during Black Friday. Now Telstra not providing any monthly credit

    • I'm trying to get a discount through telstra now.
Currently a no. But if it's no longer a thing I'm going to stop trying.

The good old days are gone. Sad times.

So spend $2376 get $1100 in gift cards

    • +5

Correct way is, your boss or company pay for the 2376 and YOU get the 1100 gift card.

      • That's the scheme!

If you had a genuine use for the $1100 gift card, then taking that out of the total value would make the plan cost $53 per month, which is pretty poor value still at 300gb.

    • I don't disagree that its not a great deal, especially compared to those old $500 GC on 12 month $69 deal with $10 monthly credit.

That said, I think the way to see the value in these is - you're a high data user, you value/need the Telstra network, and the $1100 over 24 months works out to $45 a month over 24 months, so effectively would bring the plan cost down $45 from $99 to $54.

I wouldn't do it but there may be people it appeals to. I would have been one of them previously when my previous company used to reimburse us for up to $100 a month on mobile bills. I'd have then been able to sign up to the $99 plan and not worry since I wasn't paying for it, then enjoy the $1100 gift card myself. For people who could do that, probably looks pretty good

Yeah I mean you need a genuine use of it, but even then, I don't see the main Telstra network that good anymore, within the city and most of the suburbs there can be still black spots in some parts, I haven't had the most reliable time with them, and I was with the main Telstra network for a good 10 years. I still use them but through Woolworths Mobile which is $35 a month now. It has data banking so the 300gb telstra is offering here is pointless.

Overall It's a hard sell if you have to force yourself to use the $1100. If it was over 12 months it would be better.

Work reimbursement and people claiming the full $99 as a work expense on tax is exactly who these plans are designed to appeal to.

  • I think they're having this offer or similar ones all the time. It's not really a deal, as few would really buy that plan if without discount.

  • Can i port in from Superloop(telstra network)

  • Is international roaming available ?

  • +2

the better deal was $89 per month for $1100 gift card which is still $43+ a month for telstra 300gb

  • did this a few years back and regretted it.
The voucher lure was better deal a few years ago and 2yr contract is balls.
Also Tesltra reception where I am is terrrrrrrible and im in metro area.

  • can someone confirm if it uses the main Telstra band or the secondary ones?

JB sell Telstra retail plans, same as you get buying from Telstra directly.

      • Thanks :)

The congestion is so bad on my train line to and from the CBD that it doesn’t matter what provider you’re with.

    • +1

telstra especially on the airport line, my parnter is able to doom scroll on optus while i cant even load a webpage

      • Yeah, I guess it’s probably a lot worse for non-Telstra.

I was on Vodafone and my mobile was basically unusable the entire train line. Telstra is only bad in the more metro stops.

  • Most people would be lucky to use 300GB in a year.

  • +1

OMG do people still go on 2 year plans, so 2010’s

  • +1

only way i could see this being a deal is if you had good Telstra reception at home and you use this as your home internet and then sign up for a cheap sim to use with the mobile you buy with teh 1100 voucher.

  • what if i want to cancel early? went to jbhifi and a rep advised i will be paying $800 as a core and not $1100
