  • I never get any matches from Virgin sigh.

Offtopic, any tips on lounges if I am gold and travelling on SQ through SIN later in the year? T3 on the way back (T2 going over but short connection). Wife and two toddlers in tow

In Singapore you will be entitled to use the KirsFlyer Gold Lounge, however you are only permitted up to one guest, inclusive of children.

      See here:
      https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/flying-withus/lounge/…
      https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/travel-info/at-the-air…

In practice if you are using a SilverKris Lounge outside of Singapore such as Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney - they can be lenient and give a 'one time' exception, however in Singapore its very stringent and strict on the policy.

You could ask Velocity for a 'Pilot Gold' trial within 3 months of departure for your wife and you will be able to use the SQ lounges with your children with zero complications. And its only 80 SCs within 90 days which you should be fine to obtain it if you pool your SCs together which is a win win.

      • Oof, did't forsee that as being an issue, thanks for pointing it out. I recently just did the AMEX VFF Business card so have 2x pilot golds to use. Might be easier to 'employ' the wife than ask Virgin for one.
        Thanks for the detailed reply

Thats even better, you can 'employ' your wife into the Pilot Gold before you depart, you will be able to guest 1 passenger each meaning both of your children should be in.

And if she earns the 80 SCs through her SQ travel, she only needs to satisfy a Virgin Australia Eligible Sector which is a Choice/Flex Domestic or International Fare within the 90 day period for the status to be upgraded into full VFF gold with normal renewal requirements (Note: If you have booked these flights SQ flights on Virgin Australia with a VA Flight Number she will satisfy the eligible sector). You could still re-org your family pool to ensure that the kids SCs and points are directed to you for renewal of your Gold VFF or upgrade into Platinum.

She will be able to use all of the same benefits as your VFF Gold Status when travelling on SQ without any issues even when on the 'Pilot Gold' program.

  • Worth mentioning that if you're flying internationally with Virgin, they no longer operate any international lounges at all. Best you can do is access domestic lounges in Adelaide as they are in the same terminal.

On VA flights, you are also not entitled to any partner share lounges (Like SilverKris), so make sure you book them via the codeshare partner instead

    • Yes and no.
If you are Gold or Platinum on a Virgin Australia codeshare services on Singapore Airlines (Sold as VA) you are entitled into both International SilverKris (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, London ect) and the Singapore KirsFlyer Gold Lounge. This also applies to United Airlines services on ports departing from Australia, you can use the Australian SQ SilverKris lounges.

But yes for International Virgin Australia services, you are not entitled to use Singapore Airlines Lounges, but there are decent pay to use lounges in both Melbourne and Sydney. Sadly the BNE PPL is closing in May.

      • I'm on VA flights, needed to book through them to get my cashback. Sounds like it was better for lounges too!
Doesn't this say it doesn't matter who's code you travel on though? https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/flying-withus/lounge/…

        • Thats fine if they are VA marketed and operated by Singapore Airlines, they are still the same lounges regardless if they are coded with VA or SQ, you were already going to be getting the International SilverKris Lounges in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, London ect and the same KrisFlyer Gold lounge in Singapore.

It also means for your wife if you go through with the Pilot Gold program, she will obtain that VA sector on those SQ flights.

Mojitojo was referring to VA operated services like to ZQN, DPS ect where there are no lounges

          • @AircraftFreight: Ahh yes I see. Yeah was sad to have gold an no lounge flying ZQN last year with the fam. Luckily I had unlimited PP +1 and they didn't count kids
