Awesome deal. Bought two weeks ago but I price matched. This is 65TDP so great for server.

    • I wouldn't recommend a 5700X for server use because they have pretty high idle power consumption (~20W).

      • Running Blue iris what would you recommend

        • I don't know much about that or how heavily used it'll be but Intel with iGPU seems heavily recommended for it.

Thats like $50 per year 24/7/365.
        Are you serious?

        • Well that's just the CPU, a normal PC with dGPU could use 50-100W at idle to low loads. A micro PC might be able to do the exact same thing at 10-30W.

So I recently upgraded my 1070ti to a 6700XT but am still running a R5 1600, i'm tossing up if I should get the 5600 deal or this. Would there be much performance difference at 1440p gaming between the 5600 and this ?

    • +4

For games the difference shouldn't be noticeable between them

      • Thanks mate :)

        • +1

no don’t become a peasant, join the 8 core master race

    • +3

as @BROKENKEYBOARD said, not a lot of difference in games, especially at 1440p or higher.

For everything else, the 5700X has a slightly higher boost clock and 2 more cores, so will have a bit longer life before you really need to upgrade.

It depends on whether the $50 price difference between a 5600 and this is outside your budget or not. Or the $160-ish difference between a 5600 and the 5700X3D.

    • I have 5600 and 6800, I don't play many newest games, most games i play always below 40%-50%. But i am sure there are few games (ie, Starfield) required more than 5600.
1440P with 3080 performance chart here, 6700xt gaming difference will be slighly smaller.

The performance is small in gaming, probably around 5600 PBO. But if you need the extra core for other tasks, go for this.

  • Currently running a R7 3700X/2080 Super combo on 1440p monitor, still a novice when it comes to PC gaming having been on consoles my entire life but noticing some games are starting to struggle a little at times. Would this be a worthwhile starting point for an upgrade? I have what I assume is the Wraith Prism cooler that came with the 3700x, unsure if I should upgrade that too?

Your best bet would be to do some investigation first. Check your CPU temps before you go spending money on a new CPU cooler you potentially don't need.
You can also look at your CPU and GPU utilisation during gaming, and from that, determine what, if anything, you need to purchase to improve your performance.
I would lean towards GPU needing an upgrade more than CPU, but can't know for sure without seeing the utilisation of your machine and knowing what games you're playing and experiencing issues with.
A piece of software called HW Monitor is generally considered a good choice for monitoring all of these things.
It could be that your PC just needs a good clean out and to have new thermal paste applied to the CPU and maybe even the GPU.

Thanks for all the tips (you too @TheBargainDog!)

Performance hasn't really deteriorated, I worded it a little wrong, more so finding newer release games to be having some issues here and there on higher settings which is understandable. I mostly play Rocket League which my system comfortably handles, but noticing some dips in games like Sea of Thieves, Helldivers 2. In Gamebar for example with Sea of Thieves on higher settings it says 100% GPU use. I've been pretty tempted by some of the 4070 deals as I know that'll probably net the highest performance boost compared to the CPU, but probably should eventually bite the bullet and do both at once

        • If you're seeing GPU usage as the bottleneck, I would heavily lean towards upgrading the GPU and waiting to upgrade core platform down the line, potentially to a 7000 series CPU or some future 8000 series CPU in a year or two, instead of investing more money in a platform that will realistically not be receiving any further updates.

I was in a similar position, 3700x/2070s, however, I upgraded to a 5800x3D, which was absolutely worth it. Sold the 3700x for $160 with unused Wratih Prism cooler.

The 5700x isn't as much of a jump, but it has a decent boost in clock speeds, and the architecture upgrades as well should provide a snappier experience overall with better 1% lows.

If you can, I'd say go for a 5700x3D, the 3D VCACHE is 100% worth the upgrade for gaming, if that's primarily what you'll be doing, and it will prevent you needing another upgrade for significantly longer.

As for a cooler, there's plenty of budget options, but you can't go wrong with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin, fantastic bang for buck.
I run a Dark Rock Pro 4 which is overkill, but it's lasted me 4 years and 2 CPUs, and it'll last me many years more.

      • Thanks for the advice :)

      • They are so similar in benchmarks though, hard to justify an extra $70 or more

      5700X uses less power vs a 3700X

  • Currently have Ryzen 5 1600 , GTX1650 GPU. I mostly do video editing (mostly from Log about 3-4 minute videos) takes 3-4 minutes currently. Is there any significant change if I go from Ryzen 5 to Ryzen 7? or having mobo, gpu and cpu will ?

    • Should be a big step up on CPU performance for this
Some video apps use GPu rendering too though so depends on the software

      • I wanted to upgrade but wasn't sure if it is going to be significant jump for me

    • +1

Gen 1 CPU jumping to Gen 4 !!!
      This deal is for you.

      Check the synthetic benchmarks.
Make sure your mobo has it listed in suppported CPUs

      • Its an old beaten up a320 if I remember correctly. Might need to upgrade that too if not supported

    • +1

I went from a Ryzen 7 1700 to a 5700X - the overall snappiness of the system was very noticeable.

Just make sure you update the BIOS in your motherboard (check with the manufacturer that they have a BIOS that supports 5000 series cpus) before swapping the cpu over.

I put a 5700X in a X370 motherboard after upgrading the BIOS and everything works perfectly.

  • I’ve got a 3600 and so tempted to upgrade to the 5700x so hard to hold off

    • +1

I upgraded to a 5700x from my 3600 a while ago as in poorly optimised games it was struggling a bit at 144hz. Figured I'd do it while I could still sell the 3600 for ~$100. Very happy

      • +1

I guess I’m due for new thermal paste, may as well get the upgrade

  • Great price! I only just bought a tray 5700X from AliExpress for ~$195 with the recent sales, but would have happily paid this to get from an Aussie retailer.

  • Very tempting. Any speculation on whether it will get any lower later this year? Would like an upgrade eventually but doesn't need to be now

  • Probably not much point in upgrading from a 3600 yet is there to this?

  • agh how did i miss this
