Was about to buy the 12400 last night but luckily the 12600KF went on sale for the same price this morning.
Not the lowest price it has ever been though.

Also ended up getting $10 off for being one of the first 20 customers of the store for the day. Was able to get it down to $219.

      Yes and no,

      The 12400f a 65-74w CPU comes with a free cooler for $180

The i5-12600KF is a 125-150w CPU for $229 plus you still need to buy a cooler around $50 = $279
You are also pumping more heat into your PC case with the i5-12600KF :)

If i was picking one of those two CPU's. I would buy a cheap cooler for the i5-12600KF and run it in eco mode or under volt/under clock it.

But the CPU to get is the 65-84w Ryzen R5 7600 as its a more efficient gaming CPU with the potential to upgrade to something better in the future

Got mine from the $189 deal, so plus cooler was $239.

        How do you undervolt/clock it?

        • Youtube it :)

          • @vid_ghost: didn't intel disable this feature years ago?
            are you acutally doing it?
I tried on my 8700 but no dice

The 12400f power and heat figures are all based on running at intel spec which nobody does. It draws almost as much as the 12600 in gaming if you remove power limits and turbo limits, which you have to do if you want it to be within range of the 12600 in performance. (Many boards have these limits removed by default)

The reason why the 12600 is better is not only can you get lower power usage than the 12400 with better performance because of higher quality binning through undervolting and disabling e-cores but you can choose to keep those E cores and higher clocks around when and if you need them. Like, running discord or chrome scripts in the background in games.

Plus you're not putting a metal block into landfill since the majority don't use the stock cooler, even if it isn't as useless as it once was.

If the 13600kf is anything to go by it hits 200w or close to it. The website says 181w but I'm sure it's higher and it kept throttling even with my peerless assassin. Once undervolted it worked perfectly
