Miss the good old days when they were $30 a bottle on sale.

  • So the LL is different to the A3/B4?

    • Yes they are different, most of the later model euro diesels only take C3 (LL) ,I'm not sure about others. ACEA are grades of oil, see Penrite link below for basic description
      https://penriteoil.com.au/knowledge-centre/Specifications/19…

    • Yeah, this is a bit confusing. A3/B4 is for all engines without DPF (diesel particulate filter), and C3 is compatible with DPF (new diesel engines).
It's about what additives they use - some additives in the usual oils, when they burn, clog up and DPF and either needs to be replaced or removed and chemically cleaned.
The C3 oil uses less / different additives so when it burns, the DPF can still cleanse the particles out.

Again, you only need C3 if you have a modern diesel engine with DPF - for old diesels, or engines without DPF* you can use any quality oil.
      * some people simply remove the DPF because it causes lot of problems for the car, even if it's a bit better for the environment

      • It's also worth noting that the LL carries VW 504 00 / 507 00 which makes it the preferred oil for about a decades worth of VW group vehicles (e.g. Audi, Skoda, Volkswagen). The A3/B4 product doesn't carry that approval.

  • If I have petrol car, A3/B4 should be good enough ? Or I should consider this LL ?
