Rakuten (Japanese Store) Free Shipping up to 4000yen, Minimum Spend 10000yen

393
fs01gm

Rakuten is sort of like an Amazon store for Japan, and they're currently running a free shipping (up to 4000 yen or around 48$aud) promotion to Australia, if you buy more than 10000yen ($120aud) worth of participating products.

They usually stock some pretty good gear like JDM auto parts, clothing and electronics. I've seen some good jdm parts like air diversion kits for imprezas and stuff around $100 bucks.

Search for fs01gm, for participating products.

  • +5

Don't see the bargains, local prices are cheaper and won't have long shipping times.

    • +2

Why would you shop online here only to compare it with local products?

      • +1

Yeah, I guess it makes sense if you want foreign products, obviously Japan probably won't have cheaper products you can also normally buy here, because of it's economy.

Boxes of that Shin Ramen are $12 each at my local Korean store ($0.60 each).
I would be tempted to buy from Rakuten, but I doubt that I have room for the approx. 800 packets of noodles required to get the free shipping…..

      • +1

I think you need to spend $120 = 2000 packets of shin ramyun

        • I've always wanted a crate of cup noodles.

      The Japanese don't speak 'Chingrish'…

      • +5

        Exactly.
They just nod a lot like Ash Ketchum.

      • I think 99% of the products are from china and the descriptions have indeed come from china . These guys are just drop shippers .

        • -1

thanks captain obvious. what isn't made in china nowadays?

you need to read more… the translations differences between Jpn->eng and Chi->eng is remarkably different.

        • Clearly not that obvious . The translations are chingrish . The Japanese dropshippers have simply copied and pasted the chingrish translations . Stop talking out your ass .

      • +1

Neither do the Chinese while we're being PC.

      I agree…

      http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/kaigai/item/hvl-f20am-sk/

looks like a ploy to rip of international cashed up foreigners…

tried doing a search for a few things and couldn't find anything special…

I'd love to log in with a Local proxy and see how much cheaper the items are!!!!

also didnt find anything special for the supra that's for sure…

      • +2

you login with a local proxy, and realise you can't communicate in japanese nor convince the seller to send it overseas to you. ;) (Plus their payment terms is usually in local credit cards or bank transfers)

rakuten is like a middleman of sorts think of it as a type of 'ebay'.

if you are really savvy, then you can get forwarders from japan.

proxy thing would work in places like US/UK… different can of worms here.

like i said previously, rakuten is expensive but it's probably one of the few places i can safely order stuff without ending in sh1ts and tears.

    • +1

I lived in Japan for a couple years and only ever bought one thing off them. The rest has been with Amazon JP.

  • +3

Could we have some examples of bargains. I searched for some stuff all more expensive than local

    • +3

Agree, everything seems very expensive. Even a dodgy pancake with bean jam is $12.99 ???

      • I dont think anyone should be worried about products from Japan, or South Korea (there seems to be some Korean products as well) being 'dodgy'.

  • +4

rakuten is expensive, it's mostly for people who wants specifically Japanese items that couldn't be found here, or is being sold here for a ransom (or there are fake imitations). eg. itazura coin banks.

if anything, I recently ordered from strapya (another jap site) and was quite impressed with their shipping + packing standards. Item arrived in 5 days (EMS shipping), packed in amazon standards.

    • +1

Agree with the specific Japanese parts - it was worth it when I got some car parts, easily saved a few hundred

    • +2

cost of living in metro japan is never low… thats why you never hear schoolies going to japan. ;)

      • -1

And yet Schoolies do it here in Aus, where we're enjoying the best prices in the world?

        • of course plmko… australia is the best place in the world!

      • You can legally drink in public, good beer (not the godawful piss most aussies chuck down their throats) is a dollar/dollar fifty a can. Schoolies probably would go there if the legal drinking age wasn't 20 or 21

  • +2

Reading the fine print, to be eligible for free shipping, the products must contain fs01gm in the title.

A product search for fs01gm reveals:

    http://global.rakuten.com/en/search?st=&tl=0&k=fs01gm

  • +1

Just also a note that if you want it free shipping, the estimated shipping weight has to be under 2kg.

Some JDM car parts, are okay…but mainly it's Laile/Beatrush…which already have an excellent customer service on ebay and their online shop.

Not used it, but at least you get to buy at the local price.

  • +2

I'm going to Japan in December, I'm happy to bring you all something back if you like :)

  • How do you know how much shipping costs? There is this note in the terms and conditions of the offer.

    • For international shipping, the store will send you a shipping fee confirmation email to let you know the total amount of shipping fees owed. In cases where the shipping charges exceed 4,000 yen, the Customer shall be responsible to pay the difference.

I don't want to buy something not knowing how much it costs. Anyone have more information on this?

    • it's mostly guesstimate. there are postage 'bands' per weight… so if you hit the next 'band' of pricing.. you will pay the excess. look for the postage chart.

i sort of admire the web admin/author who slapped all these stuff together to make up this website.both twisted ,convoluted and ambiguous.

      • Thanks for the response! That is kind of annoying :(

Would you be better off using the mail forwarder service Tenso?

        • yeah, it's annoying.. but I don't think you'd fare any better with forwarders too… even for forwarders in US, I don't know the price until they received the items and bill me for it.

one thing for sure, I'm quite impressed with the japan delivery standards..(and the prices paid for delivery hasn't gone too far off my estimates) it's faster than the DHL/fedex service I used for US deliveries. Plus EMS delivers to PO boxes… I don't have to come home to a fedex/dhl card and then have to end up going to the warehouse to pick up.

  • Finally, a place where I can get these:

Only the $53,000 ones left, but has free shipping - so counts as a bargain!
    http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/yochika-shimogamo/item/12…
Better get in quick before these are Ozbargained :)

  • +2

Not much here that's really a bargain for the ozbargain crowd… I don't think anyone here appreciates selvage denim, or japanese goods aside from technological stuff.

If you didn't know what rakuten was before this post, there's nothing for you here.

  • +1

Hi first post. Just done a pre-registration and read the fine prints. It said the purchase must total 10,000 Yen for free postage. Equivalent to AUD120!! Sorry just noticed OP stated that. Rakuten is good for bento boxes and cooking stuff though.

  • I haven't seen any bargains at Rakuten. However it is a good place to shop if you need some Japanese appliances like a good rice cooker.

  • +5

If they had Fanta Melon, I would buy $120 worth of that. :,(

    • amen brother.

  • Thinking of buying $120 of ramen noodles. How would customs feel about that?
