    70k or 70,000k?

    • +1

This is why you shouldn't post from a phone ….

      Thanks to WookieMonster for fixing.

  • +8

Long and painful sign up process… Countless calls still no word on approval…

    • +3

Appproved early this week within 1 day. No calls at all.

      • Are you existing ANZ customer? Always been quick with other banks except ANZ

        • No.

    • I get quick approvals from ANZ by having salary paid into a debit account. Don't even need to submit payslips this way

  • +10

Painful memories with ANZ applications in the past so I'll pass on this one.

  • looking for QF points… what are good cards atm?

  • I had a similar long winded process about 2 years ago and gave up. Last week in other deal took about 5mins on applying, and a 10min phone call a few business days later where they rechecked my expenditure then it was approved on the spot.

  • +1

No luck with ANZ card the past 2 years, long calls explaining my expenses and rejection after 30 minutes. No issues with other banks though

    • +3

are you reporting fairly high expenses?
      try reporting lower expenses.. ;)

  • Hmmm, this might be a good option to cycle to next for me. I cancelled my last Virgin Flyer card in Jan just over 4 months ago so my ability to sign up to Virgin Flyer again is on cooldown.

And I'm not in a position to grab the Amex Velocity card (big annual fee and won't be able to go on a domestic trip for a while)

For a points/$ of annual fee spent, this is pretty good atm.

But yeah, agree that ANZ is a PITA to sign up with. But looks like it'll be worth it.

    • I cancelled my last Virgin Flyer card in Jan just over 4 months ago so my ability to sign up to Virgin Flyer again is on cooldown.

why do you say it's on 'cooldown' ? They have no exclusion period.

      • Isn't it a 12 month period of not holding a Virgin Money credit card before you can get bonus points again?

Seems too good to be true if I can get 60-90k points every 4-6 months.

        • +1

you definitely can get every 6mths ish.
imo prob best to wait approx 6mths just to not get a rejection. That's not too hard, apply, go through 2-3mths to get the points. Wait a short while, re-apply.

You can do earlier than 6mths but if you do get a rejection you need to wait another 3mths.

          • @bohn: Is this 6 months period just anecdotal based on your own experience, or did you read that from somewhere?

            • @firestint: from my experience.
              also, check their terms.
all of the other providers specify the cooldown period, Virgin does not have one.

        • +1

Just yesterday I read here on OZB that a guy succesfully applied for a Virgin card in 3 weeks after cancelling previous card.

          • -2

@Azro: Applying is not the problem, qualifying for bonus points is

            • +1

              @crackman: don't spread nonsense.

you can qualify for the points no problem. They do not have a strict exclusion policy, but perhaps the only risk is that if you apply for too many cards in quick succession you may get a rejection - but this is the same at any credit provider. I have had two Virign flyer cards within 6 month period and got the points for both.

I've held the virgin flyer/high flyer many times - more than any other card.

            • @crackman: Here is an example of getting bonus points 2 months after closing Virgin CC:

              • +3

@Azro: Can confirm that Virgin Money CC don't have cool down period - just like Citibank CC. Closed one in last Dec and reapplied for same card in March and got bonus points without problem.

    • I cancelled my virgin flyer card at beginning of Jan this year. Reapplied beginning of this month and was approved, no exclusion periods on this one from my understanding.

      • And you got the bonus points without issues?

        • There’s no exclusion period it’s been discussed multiple times and yes you get the bonus.

          • @nightelves: Cheers!

Seems they've gotten rid of the clause that states that to be considered a new customer to qualify for the bonus points, one must not have held the card in the past 12 months. I use to be on a rotation between the Amex Velocity card with their 18 month wait period, the Virgin Flyer and the old ANZ Travel Rewards card because of this.

Now to decide whether I want to sign up with Virgin Money again go with ANZ who only have a $2k spend requirement despite the higher fee.

  • I thought Virgin don’t have a cooldown?

  • Good deal BUT ANZ makes it very unnecessarily hard to approve

  • -3

70k velocity for $149 fee is very good. Even the additional 30k velocity for another $149 has some value, and keeping the card for a second year might make you look less like a churner.

  • +1

For those that wasn't able to apply ANZ cards
VirginMoney Velocity Flyer Card offer isn't too bad (10k less points but half the annual fee compare to this card)

60k velocity points (spending $1500 each month in first 2 months), $74 first year annual fee
    https://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/compare-our-credit-ca…

    • i actually had troubles with all CITI backed cards…never been approved with virgin, citi, coles, qantas money..

  • Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum, ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria

Does anyone know if ANZ QFF not included?

    • +1

They are different programs with different cooldowns.

  • +1

any good card with 0% international transaction fees?

  • +1

NAB cards are the best… they have very good campaigns and partners. Happy with my NAB card, will churn the ANZ black soon :D

  • 70,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer points worth how much?

    • I usually value at 1c /point, but marketplace can sell around 1.3c / point
so 70k velocity would valued $700 for me

      • Random question: Is it better value to redeem a Flybuys for Velocity instead of redeeming it on the spot at Coles?

        • i would say "depends", probably only good time to convert Flybuys to Velocity when they are offering bonus

eg. Currently Flybuy to Velocity have 5% bonus on next manual transfer, and 15% bonus on Auto transfer (only for members never used auto transfer before)

    • Just bought return tickets to Perth for August for 70,000, complete with Economy X and 23Kg luggage.

  • I'd still go the ANZ Black Rewards personally.

    • Def still one of the best

    • Any reason please?

      • +1

90k points + 20% transfer bonus. So 108k in total.

  • Min income?

      • +1

$75k is usually for the black cards I think

        • +1

          True, I was mistaken.

      • Unlikely anywhere near that high with only $6000 minimum credit limit.

    • +1

Unofficially $35k, officially it depends on all your circumstances.

ANZ used to advertise these with a $35k income until around 2018

  • how's the redemption for velocity vs qff? Just as impossible?

    • Much better.

      • +1

i find its slightly easier to redeem velocity in peak seasons (basically not able to get classic rewards ticket unless you are in Qantas Gold or above..)
but qantas have more flights and destinations selection while VA only mainly do domestic
or otherwise using velocity for partner's airlines like Singapore Air

      • But it's much easier to do searching on Qantas website that allows you to check availabilities for the entire month. Is there a similar function on Velocity website?

    • Personally I've seen velocity is easier for Europe and Qantas is easier for America so I use both a lot

  • Are you still elegible if you have anz frequent flyer card?

    • Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Rewards Black, ANZ Rewards Platinum, ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure or an ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria

  • Why would you pick this over the 100,000 points deal? am I missing something?

Also, do people cancel their current card before applying for these new ones? I have 2 CC's with NAB already (8k total credit limit) would I have issues being approved for this? No idea what the min salary is to hold so many CC's. I already have a mortgage so i'm not worried about being declined/credit score etc.

    • +1

ANZ points convert to velocity at 2:1, so 100k ANZ = 50k VFF.

Depending on what points you’re chasing (VFF, other airlines) or gift cards/cashback, etc. will decide which option is better for you.

In terms of cancelling before applying, it depends on your financial circumstances. I had 3 cards open earlier this year with a total of $29k, and NAB still approved me for another $6k.

The banks will look at your take home pay, less expenses and what other credit products you have open to determine if you have the ability to service another card

    • +1

100,000 ANZ points converts to 50,000 Velocity points. This offer is for 70,000 Velocity points.

As for how many cards you can get at once, it all depends on your income and expenses.

  • Is this offer chosen on sign up or can you still choose once you're approved? I signed up with the previous 100k anz points deal.

    • Chosen when signing up

  • Is complimentary International Travel Insurance valid if the associated credit card account has been closed before travelling?

    • +1

Not normally, but you'd have to check the T&Cs.

  • How quick do you usually get the points? Is the International Travel Insurance decent or trash?

  • +1

Applied for and was approved for the Black card today. Very smooth and quick turnaround.

  • Any better offer for existing ANZ customers for this card ? or same offer?

  • Anz really weird got mortgage with them…got offset for $20k+ and earn $150k annually they only can give me $500 limit credit card.

    • Offset doesn’t mean much - you could withdraw it tomorrow and blow it at the pokies.

Credit limit is usually based on ability to service the card if it were maxed out. They look at your take home pay, less your mortgage repayments, declared (or a set threshold if the amount you declare is lower) living costs and other financial obligations then use that amount to see what credit limit you could service (assuming paying the minimum credit card repayments).

Sounds like you either have a huge mortgage, or excessive (declared) living costs

  • is council rate considered government charges or would it be eligible spend ?

    • +1

Government. Even some utility companies are considered semi-government and excluded…

    • It'll count through Zip BPAY.

  • Can anyone confirm if paying off Zip (for BPAY) counts?

    • +1

      Yep.

  • Decided to go with this ANZ deal instead of the Velocity Flyer.

Main reason is that the spend just needs to be made over the next 3 months… and I don't know when the fridge and washing machines we want will be discounted over EOFY sales. Pretty sure I can hit $2k spend easily.

But holy christ! They want 3 months worth of payslips????

    • Well that was quick! Submitted last night, approved today!

  • Hey all, thoughts on cashing out points as gift cards vs. collecting Velocity points? I'm got a young family and not planning any solo trips anytime soon so business class flights aren't really of interest to me. Would booking domestic flights via points still be better value than gift cards?

    • gift cards are probably the worst use but still suit some people.

personally I bank them for flights. I find velocity better (mostly) for international, and when I churn qantas card (if there are no good velocity going) I will probably aim to use those on domestic within Australia.
