    Nice

tempted just to buy one to upgrade my work phone so I can angrily slam it shut in a dramatic way to hang up

    • +2

Definitely one of the best features

  • Will Officeworks still price beat if Retravision only has it in stock for delivery in your area?

    • Yes but delivery costs need to be added to the price

  • Is the screen/hinge technology mature enough to buy yet? Current Note 9 has lasted since late 2018 and wouldn't mind getting similar life out of a new phone

    • +6

the safer option is to buy an S23/24/Plus/Ultra to get a long life from the phone

    • +1

this is pretty much the only thing stopping me from getting a flip/fold - i think i might wait it out another gen…

      • +1

The Flip 6 (5th gen as they skipped 2) will be out soon. My 3 is still going strong. I can't imagine they're going to get a whole lot better.

    • +1

No, current Samsung screen/hinge tech still bubbles and punctures/cracks after 12-18 months of usage (your experience may vary). My family members had 2 Folds and 2 Flips and they all suffered the same fate.

We got it fixed and quickly traded in for the S24 for longevity. We don't want to deal with Samsung's support later on.

      • +1

That is just the screen protector though. Is having to replace a protector every 12-18 months really an issue?

        • +1

No its not just the screen protector. Weve had two flips and the actual screen cracked on both of them before 12 months.

Trying to get it fixed under warranty was a painful experience as well.

You have to take it to one of their service centres out west, where they will inspect it and look for anything else wrong with the phone. If they find something they say the display cant be replaced under warranty due to these other non-related things (which ironically are due to the materials/worksmanship/build of the phone)

In our case one of the phones had a hairline crack on the back glass panel that somehow happened despite having a case on all the time. They told us because of that we had to pay to have that fixed by them, even though it was not important or related to the screen completely failing and unreadable rendering the phone unusable. Lost everything saved on the phone because couldnt see the screen to transfer to another phone/drive.

Cost to replace the back glass panel was nearly what a whole replacement phone would cost at that time.

          Buyer beware.

Better to buy the new iPad pro, it can fold at least once!

  • This Samsung flip or Motorola Razr 40 Ultra ?

    • @T-man:Definitely go with Samsung flip 5 as I have tried both phones recently and even though Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is definitely awesome, but Motorola has installed loads of bloatware which you can’t even delete it. So, I returned my Razr 40 ultra and kept my Samsung flip 5

      • Can I ask you one question? Is it possible to have 2 eSIMs (dual eSIMs) running simultaneously with the Samsung Flip?

        • @T-man:Yes, mate you can use multiple eSIM, but you can only use one eSIM at a time. Currently I am using one physical sim and one eSIM on my Flip 5

          • @SteveD: Thanks. So that means it cannot run 2 eSIMs at the same time like the iPhone. On my iPhone, I can turn on 2 eSIMs and use both for Wi-Fi calling in airplane mode simultaneously.

      • lol, come on Steve, it's not that much bloatware, that's harsh to return it based on that gee. In terms of price, Razr is better, but I assume the Samsung is a better phone. But x2 the cost.

        • @RocketSwitch: You might say I am harsh on Razr mate, but when I used it for a month, I was unable to remove the preloaded applications nor I was able to disable it like Samsung allows you to do it. So, I had no choice but to return the Razr. At the end of the day when I am spending more than 1.5K on a phone that I use multiple times a day, I want the phone to work the way I want it to not the other way around.
By saying that, some might be okay with bloatware as YMMV.

        • I would second you mate. I have the Ultra40 which runs amazing but I will have to call them and get the screen replaced.I also had the flip 4 but more happy with Hello Moto!!!😃

    • Razr Ultra for looks and possibly battery life, Flip5 for everything else.

Rule of thumb. New Samsung = 50% less after 6 months. Buy it then

  • This or wait for flip 6?
Predicted july release. Maybe can stack samsung preorder discounts for latest model?

  • Tempted but I lost my savings in my Steamdeck purchase.

  • Folks, where does one get a new screen protector for these flip phones?. I have a Flip 4, went to local shops and none can do it.

    • A Samsung store should be able e.g (from experience) if in Sydney, book in with the city store. Drop phone off, grab a coffee. Come back 30 mins later and done. YMMV.

    • +2

If you're too far away from the Samsung stores that do the free replacements, you can just pick them up on Amazon, Ebay, etc. The only tip is to not flip your phone for a while afterwards so it doesn't peel on the fold straight away. I have had no issues with any I have applied.

      • Great; thank you. Good alternative if i can't get to samsung store.

    • @frugalisgood:You can get it done at the Samsung store. BTW you don't need a screen protector for the flip phone as it comes with a factory fitted one. I am not sure how much it costs as whilst I was at the Samsung store recently to buy Galaxy buds 2 pro, I did enquire about the screen protector for my flip and they gave me free credit for the screen protector against my account for future use.

      • Thank you @steveD, I appreciate it.

You get 2 free for up to 24 months after buying the phone. It hasn't been 2 years since release, so you definitely can do it free…

I see you're in Sydney. You can do it in places like the Samsung stores in Westfield Parramatta or Liverpool. Call ahead and ask if they have stock. They can do it in 30min but it depends on if they're busy with other repairs. Worst case it takes a few hrs

      • +1

Thank you very much; yeah mine is 13 months old so it should ok for them to replace. Thanks heaps again :)

  • OW is out of stock for most of the 256GB colours.
The grey is only available at Retravision, I've ordered my grey 256GB ($945 +$7 postage).

  • Love flip phones now after using the Razr!! This format is fantastic if you need a new phone and missed the Razr deal!

  • Is it easy to replace the screen protector? I heard you need to every year or so?

  • I destroyed my Flip 4 by merely dropping it on its hinge. Assume hinge tech still no good for Flip 5?

  • +1

Friendly reminder: you can get another 5% off at Retravision if you're a RAC member. Not sure if OW would be willing to pricebeat that though.

  • Guess Flip 6 is around the corner.

If you can't wait for delivery, Amazon has it for $963.59 (Cream and Mint in 256Gb only)
