Suggestions to Repair a Scratch on Mercedes B200 - [Melbourne]

My 10-yr old Merc B200 has a car-park scratch in one corner, small but deep enough to show a little metal. A body shop quoted $700.

Any suggestions to get what must be a relatively simple job, down to a relatively simple price?

I see there's a company called Touch-Up Guys that offer a mobile service for small body work. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Thanks peeps.

Can you post a photo so that I may better target my troll response?

    • Perhaps you can take pity on me and explain how to post a pic. I don't see an upload button anywhere.

  • touch up guys charge through the nose.

    contact some independent detailers.

    • Independent detailers? Thanks, but… who might they be? Do you have a suggestion? Or where to find such a beast?
[But I think the scratch may need more than "detailing", though.]

        it's a bumper.
        it is all plastic.
a touch of filler in the scratch.
touch up paint with a very fine brush.

Put a scratch in the other corner and it will look symmetrical.

How many bells and whistles does it have?

    • Three bells and one whistle.

    $700?
    Nah…
Just go with the cheapest option, then go back to the $700 shop when you regret using the cheap one.

      • Naa, they have solid experience.

Metal? Looks like a plastic bumper to me.

Chealest option, go get some red touch up paint. Use a brush to fill in the black. If its an aerosol paint, spray some in the cap and use the brush from there.

  • They are going to see you coming and charge up the ying yang :P

I have a buddy that loves Euro drivers as he gets to make double the cash that day …

If you spend more than $50 on this you're wasting your money.

Just think about how little it will add to the resale value.

Cars 10yrs old, why worry. No one cares about other ppls cars in car pks so even if you got it touched up in 12mths you'll have 2 others

Sadly this is true… even if you park in a section with nobody else in it, some how some retard will have parked their bashed up bog filled 1965 Morris so close to you you cant open your door.

    • Had a scratched bumper on a 2-year-old car, fixed it after few years later (new bumper as not easy to re-spray plastic bumper) then a few months later someone else snatched it. car is now 15y old and I'm not going to fix it again, I give up! lol

Sell it and buy a Camry. You'll have plenty of money leftover so won't need to worry about the cost to fix scratches.

      But I love my B! :-)

If you're not planning to sell, retain it proudly as an urban battle scar.

don't worry, it is simple to fix it yourself

    • Love it! :-)

The white bits are paint transfer and should come out relatively quickly by a detailer.

Just buy a touch-up kit and start building layers upon layers of paint. It won't be perfect, but it won't cost an arm and a leg. There are plenty of DIY videos on YouTube if you need instructions. Once you've build up a sufficient amount of paint into that black bit/void, bring it to a detailer and get them to level it a bit so it won't stick out like a sore thumb.

    • Thanks mini, that's very good advice. :-)

Just use some nail polish remover/alcohol on the paint transfer. The white paint will come off with a couple wipes which will make it already look 10x better. If you don't want to try painting it yourself consider a bumper sticker to cover it?

For a repair you could try Dentfix Automotive, he did a couple small touch ups for me and it wasn't too exp and the job was good.

        • Bill at Dentfix has closed up shop and is not doing paint jobs anymore, unfortunately.
Thanks for the nail polish trick, though, that's great. :-)

@jgg: Oh no, what a bummer! He was very reasonable and did a good job.

  • 700 is cheap
