[Unobtainable Deal] Lenovo 15.6" Portable Monitor $149 @ ALDI

Moved to Forum: Original Link

For anyone who's been shopping for a portable monitor, this looks like a great deal. I picked up a non-brand (ESR) one recently on Amazon and almost wish I'd waited. Will probably grab one of these too.

Freestanding screen with full screen protector cover
15.6" screen size
1920 x 1080 IPS resolution
USB-C and mini HDMI Inputs
Built-in speaker and 1 x audio jack input
2 x USB 2.0 type-C inputs
1 x mini HDMI Input

Mod: The portable monitor is Bauhn, not Lenovo. It appears that ALDI incorrectly put the Lenovo logo in the picture, however there is no mention of Lenovo in the accompanying video or the title/description of the item. The deal can be reposted as Bauhn if anyone still wishes, this one will be moved to the forums, as the votes received were on the basis it was Lenovo.

i still cant find the weight on this monitor. anyone can share their wisdom, please?

  • +2

May go well with Raspberry Pi SBC, thanks OP.

    Love the Aldi promo videos

    • +1

I know lol. they just move the Tablet around their backgrounds and add the voice narratives.

    • +1

It's legit hilarious - best ad I've seen in a while. I hope this monitor can indeed live up to the power of tectonic forces!

    • +1

that final shot of it revealing itself from behind the cliffs hahaha

these are great, thanks ill be sure to check every time now

Maybe the marketing team should have spent less time making “funny” videos and more on getting basic information about the product correct.

This isn’t a Lenovo monitor despite what is listed on their website.

Making it no better than other generic monitors that can be had for cheaper. And before the Aldi fans jump on Aldi’s return bandwagon, Amazon has easy returns too. No bargain here.

I will never understand peoples’ obsession with Aldi. Always overhyped average products cleverly marketed.

      • +1

The Aldi fans will say something along the lines of "but but it's a limited time offer". Yeah no shit sherlock so are many other deals from Amazon and AliExpress. It's no excuse for RRP.

I've already linked a $119.99 Amazon alternative further below.

      • I will never understand peoples’ obsession with Aldi. Always overhyped average products cleverly marketed.

        It's good different.

        • It’s just generic home brand products in a far more inconvenient store.

Just go to ColesWorth and buy the home brands stuff there and also have access to the brand name products for things you prefer brand names for. Plus, BBQ Chickens, Deli, Bakery.

Plus Scan & Go and Click & Collect. Basic customer services for a modern grocery store.

There’s nothing good about them besides marketing.

          • @PainToad: Let me know when I can buy an e-Bike or washing machine at Coles :-)

            • @bargaino: Coles has had “Best Buys” for ages now and sells white goods etc periodically just like aldi, but only at the larger stores.

            • @bargaino:

Let me know when I can buy an e-Bike or washing machine at Coles :-)

Let me know when Aldi sells an electric device that isn’t recalled 6 months later.

    • Clever marketing… they know their products are just run of the mill but affordable so use a bit of comedy to attract attention.

      • Yeah, funny marketing is the best - I cringe at all the other ads that are not funny

  • +1

It does not show Lenovo on Aldi website. From the official video, it looks like Aldi's home brand Bauhn. I think OP might mixed up with the Lenovo pad that will be on sale the same day.

    • +1

It's got the Lenovo logo in the thumbnail on the Aldi site

      • +1

Sorry, I missed that. But the brand shown in the video is Bauhn. I think the worker in Aldi mixed up with the Pad then. :-D

      • +1

Even though the Lenovo logo is in the thumbnail on the Aldi site, the photo of the monitor itself has the Bauhn brand towards the bottom of the monitor.

        • +2

Sounds like Aldi’s people might have labeled the image incorrectly as Lenovo then. Being Lenovo would be more of a selling point.

Especially positioning it as a slightly more premium offering against the rest of the nameless AliExpress units out there

I’d definitely like to know anyway

          • +1

@maxdestructo574: Lenovo's portable monitor line is called "ThinkVision" and looks much better then this one. The price tag also doubles. Lol

  • +2

Good price OP. I picked up a ZSUS from Aliexpress few months ago. It randomly turns itself off then back on when I'm using it. Not the best experience.

    • +1

Thankfully mine has been solid so far. I whip it out if I'm not in the office or at home and want a 2nd screen. Got the 15" version with leather cover.

      • -1

How is this spec compare to zsus.

  • +1

Nice! Does anyone know of the refresh rate?

    • +1

60hz, watch the video you will see this.

  • are all the ports just input or is there something wrong with the description ?

    • What output from the monitor would you expect?

      • Power. Audio.

        • If it's like other portable displays, it will be powered via USB-C and the only 'audio output' will be the speakers.

          This isn't a 'tablet' - It's portable monitor

      • like a usb c HUB .. extension ports to add more devices like a mouse or keyboard

  • +1

This model looks to be a dead ringer for the below if anyone is wondering what this is

    https://manuals.plus/cocopar/y156fh7s-usb-c-portable-monitor…

    • Looks good

    • +1

Says it comes with a 5V "charger", implying a battery, but no mention of capacity or life. More likely they are idiots and it does not charge. Then again, it is heavy at 2lb, so maybe …?

The lack of detail from ALDI is a joke. When I ask them for important spec's they just say i can buy it and return if I don't like it.

  • I think I need at least 3 usb c ports for my next one. There’s a lot of utility for being able to plug something in right next to the monitor. The 2 ports are pretty nonexistent since they are used for passing through.

  • Nice at this price and brand 👍

This screen will pair well as companion productivity screen to a surface pro, or to a portable console (Switch/ Steam Deck)

    Thanks OP

The accompanying product video is an absolute meme though! https://youtu.be/zi1QaZYxLM8

    • +2

And shows that it's clearly Brauhn.

    • +1

Outstanding, someone got paid to make this, remember that folks.

  • Looks like a great deal

  • +1

Catalogue definitely shows Brauhn. Still a decent buy and I might try and snag one as a second monitor for my music production alongside my laptop

  • +4

That's expensive for a 15.6" FHD monitor. Since it's from Brauhn it's going to be a rebadge and there's no specs listed for brightness and colour gamut. It could be a real dud.

Cheaper 15.6" on Amazon with AU warranty before anyone pulls the warranty line on AldiRRP. I.e. this for $119.99.

    • Cheaper 15.6" on Amazon with AU warranty before anyone pulls the warranty line on AldiRRP. I.e. this(amazon.com.au) for $119.99

Looks like that one has been OzBargained :-( Any other suggestions, Clear?

    • Does Amazon do satisfaction guarantee returns up to 60 days?

      • 30 days. If you think having 60 days is worth the extra $30 then sure why not.

  • Lenovo monitor + Motorola phone + Ready For + remote keyboard looks like a good set-up for work on the go. Might need a Power Bank as well

    • +1

Too bad it's actually Brauhn and not Lenovo. An unintended bait and switch by Aldi's web dev team.

    • Nah. It's too heavy, Net Weight is 2lbs.
I am happy with my Fujitsu UH-X, it's just 750g and it's made in Japan.

  • 100 nits

  • Portable screens newbie Question: So even though they say its portable, it doesn't have a built in battery right? It still needs a connected power source though a USB-C input? Carrying a brick power-bank dangling around with it not so portable aint it? Trying to understand the practicality of this…..

    • i believe it does. i dont think you can have one usb-c cable to do video output and power at same time. i think you need two cables

    • +1

I too am unfamiliar with this technology and would like to know how these are actually used.
If power comes from a socket, no thx.
If power comes from a usb? How, what kind of USB? 3+? and how much is it going to tank battery life for whatever device is being leeched from.

      • +1

Laptop (via USB-C) is the power source.
Obviously lowers battery on laptop faster.
Practicality - it is more portable and has less cables than lugging around as regular monitor - you may be able to put it in same sleeve as laptop.

    • All portable screens I have used are powered by the USB C port on the laptop that also provides the video, no separate power source is required.

  • +1

Does anyone know whether these portable screens have auto standby when input is off? Eg Chromecast that's turned off/standby, will this screen turn off, or have a bright screen waiting for input?

    • +1

I have 2 similar monitors I got from Amazon and they both go into standby within a minute of my PC shutting down. One of them shows a bright blue screen for a while before turning off. Not sure what will happen though if Chromecast is in standby but I might have a slim chance later to test it.

    • +1

@AtomuKirin Update: I have just tested Google TV with Chromecast using an HDMI to HDMI female adaptor as the portable monitor I have uses the smaller HDMI connector and needed to use the supplied cable. It goes into standby after about a minute.

You may be able to use a hub with HDMI for the Chromecast and USB-C for the monitor but I didn't test that.

      • +1

Thanks for checking! Really appreciate it.

  • Is Lenovo Tab M11 in the same catalog any good?

  • +1

Defo Bauhn, just saw paper catalogue and no sign of Lenovo branding :)

  • It looks pretty identical to the zsus one, the stand the ports, except the speaker

  • Does anyone know if the stand allows this to be put in portrait mode?

    • Doesn't look like it
