what is NAS? how is this different to USB ones?

Gravatar

atlds on 05/12/2008 - 11:07 ¶

Network Access Storage. Meaning you can hook it up to your router so that everyone that is connected to your network can access the content within. If you use USB then the computer that the HDD is connected to must be turned on always in order to get access to the external HDD.

NAS works over the network. Multiple computers can access the NAS simultaneously. Very convenient if you have wireless. Tends to be slower than USB attached storage. Fast enough for video and music though.

Only at very limited stores …. :(

Gravatar

Noslee on 05/12/2008 - 11:16 ¶

yeah, I would’ve picked up one myself if they have any in metro Sydney

elcheapo on 05/12/2008 - 11:11 ¶

I don’t know man.. DSE is notorious in their “stock” availability mishaps .. so I wouldn’t hold my breath there..

Gravatar

chansthename on 05/12/2008 - 11:14 ¶

see if you can get a price match from somewhere else

great deal NASs are expensive

Gravatar

elcheapo on 05/12/2008 - 11:22 ¶

most price match policy exludes “clearances model, display stocks, etc”, you’ll get the idea.. but sometimes you may get lucky too :D

scubacoles on 05/12/2008 - 11:15 ¶

Damn I want one of these…
None locally available though.

Wonder where I can price match?

Scotty’s improved the formatting of comments!!
No double spacing to get a new line anymore..
Nice work Scotty! :-)

from what i read. this is just the case. some one correct me?

Gravatar

ljiljana on 05/12/2008 - 11:28 ¶

This is a good deal but no one in the Sydney metropolitan can get one because there all country locations. I don’t know about the other states though.

Up to 1TB (terabyte) capacity for sharing files

so you’ll need to get your own HD?

hence the price would around $360 altogather.

atlds on 05/12/2008 - 11:33 ¶

It comes with a HDD…

Gravatar

Noslee on 05/12/2008 - 11:38 ¶

yes, it has 2x 500gb already inside

Gravatar

dukephoenix on 05/12/2008 - 11:37 ¶

Found out in Melbourne there are only 3 left in stock. 1 in each of Mentone, Nadawadding and Chadstone.

Noslee on 05/12/2008 - 11:38 ¶

Wow, Elcheapo is right “DSE is notorious”!

Gravatar

elcheapo on 05/12/2008 - 12:19 ¶

Probably what they really try to say is.. “stock availability is for guide only - updated every month or longer”

jianye on 05/12/2008 - 15:10 ¶

NSW/ACT:- Coffs Harbour DSE, Macarthur Square DSE, Muswellbrook DSE, Tamworth DSE

Is this only available in those store?

Gravatar

scubacoles on 05/12/2008 - 15:15 ¶

Possibly.. the stock listing is unreliable. Pays to call first.

Why give it a negative then? The description was correct!

I think a lot of the new comers aren’t very nice with their votes.

It’s a great bargain dude. 3 years warranty too, from Lacie, if the page I was looking at was the right one.

scubacoles on 05/12/2008 - 16:20 ¶

Yeah, sucks to be us..
I asked some expat SA friends who are in WA now to stop by the Perth store for me. So back off everyone!! If there’s one there, it’s mine!!

Strike out Toowoomba DSE, just picked up the last one there. Had a quick play with it and other than no RAID seems fantastic.
