ING Refer a Friend Promotion Discussion
Hello everybody,
Just spoke to ING regarding their 'Refer a friend' campaign (http://campaigns.ingdirect.com.au/refer-a-friend?cid=ccm:rdl...) and just wanted to share the information I received.
a) It is vital to use a code that hasn't been used by more than 5 people and/or being super quick to open and activate the card. The consultant on the phone said that ONLY the first 5 people will receive the bonus and as there is no reliable way of knowing the number of times the code has been used, it might pay off to activate quickly. Or ING might just pay off everyone eventually, I'm not sure how they will act, but this is what they told me.
b) This is the important bit.
Those people who use the code and activate their cards between now and 31st December and the people providing the unique codes, will have their bonuses in by 8th January, 2013.
So if you are a new customer and haven't received your bonus, I'm guessing that means 5 people activated before you. Might be worthwhile to call them up after that date to check why the bonus hasn't been credited and they might make a goodwill deposit, who knows ?
To those people providing the codes, if you receive less than $250, that means you still have a code or a few codes left (simple math to find out, 1 code = $50). If you have codes left, you can still give it out, since new customers need to open and activate by 31st January. Both parties will receive their bonus by 8th February.
Yup, I think that's about it. If someone else feels like cross checking that with ING, that would be nice :)

+1 voteI think that would be the best solution, so that they both are guaranteed the bonus.
However, there is a variable of 'trust', where the person providing the code is not just saying that (i.e, giving it to more than 5 people) to make sure that s/he gets the confirmed $250 even if a few people don't end up opening and activating the card. I would hope not.
+1 voteI have a code that's been used once, 4 referrals left.
To ensure you are guaranteed a valid referral within the first 5, please private message me and I'll private message back referral code.http://www.ozbargain.com.au/privatemsg/msgto/1621
Thanks
mrsquiggle on 21/11/2012 - 09:49 ¶I'm also with Ing direct but received no such promo email?
So is it for only customers that receive the email or for ALL existing customers?
Worth the call to check?
+1 votegreenpossum on 21/11/2012 - 09:53 ¶I believe only a selected set of customers got this email. Possibly people who enthusiastically used their PayWave, as the email started: We trust you've been enjoying your new Orange Everyday transaction account and getting 5% cash back everyday on your contactless purchases. I've been using it everywhere I see a contactless terminal.
If anybody needs a code, just PM me. I have only given it out once so it's good for 4 more uses.
brucefromaustralia on 20/12/2012 - 19:33 ¶ING told me emails were sent to certain customers who met certain 'criteria'. No one I know (long term ING customers & Paywave users) never received the email.
monstersinc on 21/11/2012 - 09:59 ¶Hello everyone :)
If you need a code - still have 5 left - feel free to drop me a PM.
Cheers

Hi all, just wondering if this works in conjunction with the "Get $50 When You Open an ING Direct Savings Account (1 Deposit Needed)"(http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82829).
Ie if I referred my friend using my refer code, and they activated both savings account and everyday account — would they receive $50 for opening ING Direct Savings Account and depositing, and another $50 for the referral opening of Orange Everyday transaction account? ie $100 in total?

Good point, that could possibly be done. As long as your friend enters the BONUS code while applying, I see no reason why s/he shouldn't receive the $100 combined bonus. One $50 bonus is for opening an ING Everyday account and activating the card with the other $50 bonus being for opening an ING Direct Savings Account and making a deposit.

Bargains4All on 21/11/2012 - 14:30 ¶I've still got four codes left. PM me if you need a code that will work.

** IMPORTANT **
I've just rang ING to confirm the details of the promotion
The operator said the person who is doing the referring would need to be an existing Orange Everyday account holder BEFORE the promotion started.
That would mean that you CAN'T open an account under this promotion for the purpose of referring others!
Hmmm…. I wonder if the operators comments are correct :(

Yes, that sounds correct. The code was sent via e-mail to existing Orange Everyday account holders (possibly to reward them for using the account regularly). Signing up via the code will give you a $50 bonus and maybe another $50 for opening a savings account with them (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82829), but I don't think they'll e-mail new customers a unique code.
brucefromaustralia on 20/12/2012 - 19:37 ¶ING told me the codes were sent out automatically - ages ago, so no new codes being sent.
