koss make some great budget headphones

  • +1

These headphones are brilliant. Mine have been going strong for 8 years.

I had them replaced free by koss a few years ago because I blew one side. Lifetime warranty!!

  • Don't know, but was charged $35.07 using paypal. Are paypal exchange rates that bad?

    • +1

      yes it is that bad

  • How do these compare to the Skullcandy ones for the same price?

Skullcandy generally aren't considered value for money, whereas the Porta Pros have been regarded as great value at the RRP for decades, so at this price, there would be no comparison.
If you want some full sized phones look into superlux headphones, best value by far. There was a guy selling them here if you do a search.

  • I want these so bad. I purchased a pair of Koss TD/65, god knows how long ago, possibly 10 years, maybe 15 years. Still going strong today.
I would buy these in a heart beat but I purchased a pair of Audio Technica ATHM50 in one of the last deals. I will start searching for a reason to use them.

    • i love mine paired with my fiio e17. how are your m50s? and how much did you pay for them?

  • +1

I got a pair of these in March 2012 for ~AU$30.
    They perform very well.

  • I second the general theme in this thread. I purchased a set of Koss PortaPro jnrs about 20 years ago and a second pair recently. The first pair were brilliant until the kids smashed them (they worked pretty hard to break them!!). I ordered the second pair recently, and they are just as nice as I remembered.

Pros: For my taste, they have a much better sound than something like a Sennheiser CX300-II ($90 at JB HiFi). The bass is tighter and punchier on the Koss. If you like a "woofy" or loose base, avoid the PortaPros!
Cons: The sound leaks because they aren't fully enclosed. They are also bigger and bulkier than something like the CX300-II.

If you don't mind having others hear your music (eg. you're studying, in your room or live by yourself), i'd go the PortaPro jnrs. If you're worried about impacting others with noise, consider a decent set of in-ear headphones. The CX-300II are nice, but expensive for what you get.

At this price, you should be VERY impressed with the audio quality of the PortaPros.
Note1: If you (1) buy Monster Cable (tm) or (2) classify yourself as a golden eared audio-phile, don't buy these headphones.
