CamerasDirect Sigma 30mm F1.4 for Only $399 with 2 Years Australian Warranty Plus Free Delivery

50

I was looking to get a good wide open prime lens for low light situations for this Christmas and New Year's festive season and came across this Canon version of Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens deal offered by CamerasDirect. They now price match with CRKennedys. I think this is a very good price (including GST) for local stock with 2 years Australian warranty. You get this lens delivered for free, since the order amount is over $100.

They are also doing Sandisk 16GB Extreme SDHC Class 10 Memory Card Australian Stockist SPOT DEAL for $19.49, which is the cheapest I have found so far.

Their delivery charges are for orders $0-$49.99 $4.95, $50-$99.99 $6.95 and $100or over is free for standard delivery.

"They now price match with CRKennedys" wtf? Whats the use of a grey importer price matching with a Sigma Authorised Australian distributor? Or did you mean that they inflate their prices to match CR Kennedy?

In any case the Sigma 30/1.4 is reputed to have soft corners.

    • CRKennedy, as the Sigma distributor in Australia, is trying to support it's Aussie dealer network by attempting to match grey importer prices.

      See bottom line here http://www.crkennedy.com.au/v1/index.cfm?pageID=465&pageRef=…

Camerasdirect is just making use of CRK's policy.

Eg: you find a grey importer price for a sigma lens. Basically you can just tell a retail shop that's part of the sigma aussie dealer network (eg Camerasdirect), who will then pass on details to CRK. CRK may decide to drop its price or provide rebate to the retail shop so that it can price match the grey importer for you. More details on whirlpool forums on this process if you are interested…

      • No but lasers saying CameraDirect are a grey importer offering local warranty. So technically CR Kennedy dont apply

        • I know Camerasdirect sell grey imports.

However, they recently started advertising some products with CRK warranty. Presumably they're sourcing these products from CRK, and so they can offer CRK (aussie) warranty on these products.

But they're continuing to sell grey import sigma lenses too (see website), so unless they specifically say the product is from CRK, then it's a grey import.

No offence intended to the OP - price seems good and I can understand the desire to have a 30mm lens on an aps-c camera as it provides a similar perspective as a 50mm…. and of course it's smaller/lighter than a 50mm…. and a fast prime lens is great…. but I'd vote for the 50mm f1.4 Canon you can pickup for around the same amount locally…. and less via the grey market (eg Kogan is $319 plus postage). Thing is the 50mm makes for a great portrait length lens on an aps-c, plus it has the added advantage of being able to be used on a full frame camera body should you ever get one of those. I have a 50mm f1.4 (Nikon) and love it - but be aware that the depth of field is something ferocious when wide open so you have to really know what you're doing (if shooting people, lock the focus on the eyes!). For the times when you need a wider angle, then maybe spend the savings on a cheaper (if slower) lens…. maybe the 40mm pancake job. Or maybe simply shell out a few extra dollars and get the Canon f1.8 28mm which - although slower, is still pretty fast….

Of course, Nikon owner here so feel free to toally ignore. ;-)

If somebody is after a 30mm lens, why would they want anything else? Your post is ridiculous.

      • Not only that, the Canon 50/1.4 is about half as good as the Sigma 50/1.4.

    • None of us in here are CamerasDirect reps. You should send your query directly to them, otherwise they'll most likely not see it.

      • Via their website I would assume. I think there rep is in the penalty box from a couple of nights ago :)

Best is this (Sigma 18-250 macro Lens + Lenspen ) = $427 shipped from eglobal.

    • If by "best" you mean "far worse", then yeah, spot-on, Ansel.

  • I bought this lens for my 550D couple of months ago. When you get it, book it in for calibration. It is unlikely that it is calibrated to your camera. You need to send in the lens and your camera body to have the lens calibrated to your camera. Once calibrated, it is a fantastic lens. Great for indoor shots, and sharp wide open and gets even sharper as you stop down.

    • Do you need to pay for calibration and P&S ?

      • I bought genuine, and didn't pay anything. But it did take about a week.
In hind sight, I should of got a Canon EF 28mm F1.8. No need to send it off for calibration, guaranteed compatibility with future Canon camera releases, and it works on full frame cameras, while the Sigma only works with EF-S mounts(crippled).
