@gotbean LOL
@mrhorseham of course, they're still getting the money, just that the checkout chick/guy might be sus of you, cause it looks like you're trying to use paywave dodgely (avoid signing/PIN), in that case just explain you have a cashback rebate going on at your bank, they shouldn't care too much :)
dark.enerjohn on 04/01/2013 - 03:15 ¶I bought a compressor from Bunnings a while ago which had a 2-3 year warranty. The company selling them folded and I wasn't able to get a replacement or refund.

Needing to buy an angle grinder for a DYI job. does anyone know if this is a good deal after 20% discount?

Thanks guys. I'm tossing between the above Black&Decker or the one below from Bunnings. I can pay a bit more and have a reliable machine for yrs to come unlike the GMC/Ozito drills I purchased which tend to die once the warranty is over.

Out of these two, which would be the better grinder to buy?
ScottLetts on 04/01/2013 - 06:09 ¶Makita @ Mitre 10 for $85. I'd go the Makita personally, however for small DIY jobs I doubt the motor will give out on any of those brands (still steer clear of K-Mart tools, their woefully underpowered).

You'll be surprised, you can get these much better quality filters for a comparable price to the Ryco filers from SCA!
webbiegareth on 04/01/2013 - 09:10 ¶Not as much as you'd think - as usual, you have to spend money to make money (i.e. buy 2 or more filters for better value).
The first oil filter is about $8 shipping, and each additional filter is roughly an extra $2.50 or thereabouts.
I mainly use the Purolator PL10111 PureONE Oil Filter (for my old VXII V6 Commodore):
http://www.amazon.com/Purolator-PL10111-PureONE-Filter-Pack/...
Buying 3 of those, including shipping, is pretty much dead on $30 - i.e. $10 per filter, comparable to Ryco pricing but a whole lot better quality.
The Mobil 1 Extended performance oil filters are $8 each for my car. K&N are apparently the same as Mobil 1 but with a nut welded on, so if you change your own oil, they say these filters are the easiest to change (they're $11 each for my car).
All you need to do is find what Ryco (etc) filter model you need for your car, then google it to find the equivalent PureOne / Mobil 1 / K&N model :)
webbiegareth on 04/01/2013 - 15:13 ¶My apologies - you're right, the Mobil 1 filters can't (I'd heard otherwise, but I just checked).
However, the K&N HP filters can be imported, and these are actually the same as the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters (just with a different paint scheme and a nut welded to the end). They cost a few more bucks than the Mobil 1 filters though. I'll probably switch to these once I run out of PureOnes.
The high end Purolators are the PureOne filters and they can also be imported. I have a half dozen still sitting in my garage waiting to be used :D
I originally bought a couple of PureOne filters from Amazon but some were faulty so I contacted Purolator and they express shipped a full box of 12 to me… can't complain about that kind of service! They'll take me a while to get through!
I'm also fussy about the oil used in my car (I use Penrite HPR10 in my car, which is 10W50 and runs great in my poor old 300,000km commodore!). I've still got one 5L bottle left in my garage from the last 20% sale, I'll grab another one tomorrow though :)

Interesting. I'll have a look. I use Ryco Z411 filters that sell for about $9 at the 20% off specials. K&N filters here cost about $20 in my size.
My car is out of warranty but I take it back to the dealer anyway due to their pretty low labour charges. They did however charge $18 for bog standard oil filters and $60 for 4L of oil, so now I bring my own and demand they use it (I'm also fussy about the choice of oil for my LPG car). After about 5 services they haven't kicked up a fuss. Some other service places do.

Then I decided to get a new wiper ARM, with new blades on it (cost ~$26 for the front wipers) and it's good as new. Can't believe I hadn't done it earlier.

webbiegareth on 04/01/2013 - 15:17 ¶Are these generic ones you get at SCA as good as the OEM ones from the manufacturer? I'm getting waaay less glass contact so I think I need new arms as well rather than just new blades.
(we can rebuild him - we have the technology!)
theguyrules on 04/01/2013 - 17:57 ¶Yeah, I have a fairly old car and I'm fairly certain the damn things were originals.
