Unfortunately…

No phone call, not even SMS. Google have crippled it worse than the early iPhones, and you can't blame the carriers this time.
There are hacks to get SMS and VoIP working, but not mobile calls. Very disappointing. I might have to keep the venerable MyTab a bit longer. Maybe until the Nexus-4 reappears, assuming its not just a hoax.

- SMS does work, both send and receive with a third party sms app
- You cannot hotspot tether (cannot share your internet)
- VOIP running via pennytel and maxotel. I use Media5-fon. It is not reliable because the connection sometimes drops out when roaming between wifi hotspots, 3g, etc.
- Bluetooth is very buggy. I had to grab a third party app to fix it.
- No Camera on the rear
- No HDMI or Mirror cast support unlike the LG Nexus 4.
XDA developers have not been able to get GSM voice calls working on the N7 today.
Other than that, it's got the usual benifits of a tablet. :-P
My Galaxy tab 7 (P1000T) table was (and is in some ways still) a better unit and it cost me $280 (thanks ozbargin) two years ago.

Cheap Charlie on 10/01/2013 - 21:02 ¶Was looking at the link in this post a few weeks ago. The model that it now lists sates it's a 4G model?

16 gb Wifi. This is such an amazing tablet for the money and is worth spending the extra money on compared to other tablets in the 200 dollar bracket. I bought my girlfriend the 32 Gb model for 300 Christmas and she absolutely loves it.
Having said that the 16gb version is 249 from the play store so I am sure you can snatch it for cheaper than that.
bluedez_man on 10/01/2013 - 16:13 ¶I second that. I haven't found anything which really provided as good a value statement in the same price range. I was able to pick up the Nexus 7 16Gb for $215 back when Bing Lee had the $30 cash-back promotion with Amex. Hopefully something similar comes up again, or you have some luck haggling.

bluedez_man on 10/01/2013 - 20:00 ¶You're not referring to this are you?

LongJohn92 on 10/01/2013 - 17:29 ¶Bought a 3G Nexus 7 from JB HiFi for $356. I'm glad I had a $50 gift card to use. So far I love the device. Allows me to do everything I need, only had a problem setting up the sim card, but that was Virgin's problem. If you're looking to travel, it's a great and portable size.
