3G vs 4G battery life

I've been tempted to upgrade from my S2 to a 4G phone (most likely S3 4G) but I've been telling myself not to because:

  • My S2 still works absolutely fine + I like the fact that it actually seems sturdier than the S3 (S3 seems to have its screen crack easier)
  • I plan to stick to telcos like Vaya/LC who don't have 4G on BYO yet
  • Even if they get 4G, I think it will be significantly more expensive than 3G and I don't feel the need to spend extra
  • I don't need 4G download speed.. do I? No. I just want it.

tldr: I have been tempted to get a 4G phone but I think it is more of a want than a need.

For people that have used both a 3G and 4G phone (preferably an equivalent model e.g. S3 3G and 4G/Note 2 3g and 4G), how does battery life compare in terms of how much the battery drops particularly when using mobile internet?

Purely a question asked out of curiosity. I still don't think I will buy either phone.

  • Good question. I've been thinking the same. because 4G is faster than 3G, therefore the battery life may waste more quicker. because often somethings gotta give in terms of hardware specs.. e.g gaming video cards if you want bigger Gigabytes, its gotta be a heavier weight

  • +1

if you don't use the 4G services it would be a waste to get it.

  • @ultra that's right so I'm still not sure.

@Pecca - that's why I'm not getting it. This topic is really just to find an answer to a question I'm curious to know the answer to.

  • been using my s3 4g with voda 3g and telstra 4g…same battery life at the end i feel.
a friend of mine on 3g s3 on voda, His could last more than mine with typically same usage and unplug time. so its like if his 30% mine 15%.
