Xiaomi MI-2 (4.3" 720P, QuadCore Snapdragon S4, 2GB RAM) $469 Delivered from MobiCity

132

Saw this new phone popped up at MobiCity. Similar internal spec to Nexus 4 — same quad core Snapdragon 1.5Ghz CPU with Adreno 320, 2GB RAM and 16GB NAND. It has narrower 4.3" 1280x720 IPS screen, and runs Xiaomi's ROM which is regularly updated.

Comparison with Nexus 4 on GSMArena

$449 + $19 postage = $468 delivered from MobiCity. Yes, it's more expensive than 16GB Nexus 4. If it's available for ordering.

Also seem to be the only AU seller that stocks it, although it would most definitely be grey imported (although MobyCity handles the warranty). For those who are more adventurous, you can get the same phone from places like Aliexpress for USD$410-$450 depending on the seller. Sold for USD$410 here.

  • This is a china phone but I like it. 342 ppi ! Pretty good

    • +2

Except this is not a bargain and the overall quality is below average.

  • Hmmm tempting

  • +2

It is overpriced. In China, it is just 1999RMB, which is around 305 AUD. ps. I am from China and it is still out of stock in Chinese official website.

    • But not everyone is from china. If its the best price for most people in au, it deserves a plus

      • +7

If you buy it, you will regret soon. This phone is always auto-reboot and shut down unexpectedly. There are lots of problems in the ROM but till now no bugs have been fixed. My friends who bought the phone regretted and bought other android phones.

        • Funny that with all these problems, it is still out of stock in the official website

        • +4

The price is tempting. Everyone is trying to get one and when they got the phone, there were so many unexpected bugs. The disgusting thing is that people can't repair the phone because Xiaomi is sold online and no authorised store to repair.

        • +10

i would have up 40 bucks more and get the Galaxy S3.

        • +2

Most people tend to find out the problems of anything AFTER they buy it, not before.

        • bullshit) XiaoMi make good phones with there own android interface,if there are any bugs, they get fixed with firmware updates, which come out pretty quick

        • Xiaomi uses MIUI rom which copy the code from Cyanogenmod. If Cyanogenmod has bugs, then MIUI has bugs. If Cyanogenmod does not fix bugs, MIUI will not fix the bugs. In China, millions of units have been sold out to public. But if you walk in China, what you can notice is people use iPhone, Samsung and HTC. No Xiaomi phone at all! Where are all the millions phone gone? I don't know. Chinese media don't know. Updates are all functional updates such as add a new theme and so on. Not useful for fixing bugs.

        • sounds like you are travelling around the country (China) all the time. pls do not represent all Chinese people.actually it is quite funny that you brought Chinese media into your comment.

"No Xiaomi phone at all!" "Where are all the millions phone gone?" "i don't know." "Chinese media don't know."

          lmfao!!!!

        • yeah exactly… if this was significantly cheaper than it would be worth considering

        • what millions of phones are you talking about?xiaomi releases small quantities for sale,100-300k pcs,not more
and just FYI: apple is no.7 in China, not even top five, read the statistics

    • +1

The point is that they probably don't intend to sell this phone overseas at all. They want to set a price tag overseas and tell the Chinese customers: hey, you are getting a bargain in China!

      • true!who cares about Australia with 20m customers or Russia with 130m,when you have 1.5b customers in your own country

  • +1

Great deal, it's a very good phone and I would have purchased it already if not for only having Telstra 3G. I'd recommend it to anyone though, it's got some good reviews, and definitely good software.

  • +1

FYI Xiaomi2 RRP in China is RMB1999 = AUD 305.
If you plan get one, think about the price and better find out if anyone around you wish to travel to China

    • I "wish to travel to China", if u wish to pay the flight ticket

    • If its RRP is $305 in China, then why the competitions on Aliexpress don't drive the price down? Quick profit! Unless there is something else we don't know, i.e. stock availability.

      • We do know that stock availability is a problem!

Given LG's update yesterday that they're producing heaps of Nexus 4's now, I'm happy to hold out for the branded alternative.

      • Just got info from the official website, they will release 150,000 unit (xiaomi 2) and 100,000 unit (xiaomi 1s) on 19th

And stock maybe a issue in local tech shop, but never a problem online (ie. taobao) for a little bit higher price (200 rmb) So apparently, $150 extra is killing everything.

dont know how many update you will get from Xiaomi, for Nexus 4, XDA forum will provide more support.

    • Essentially xiaomi is like the Chinese nexus. It will get consistent updates of its miui rom.

  • Serious? $140 more than the price for Chinese market: RMB1999 only, google says =AU$305. Out of stock everywhere though. What a good profit…. Mmmm….

Anyway, it's nice phone I think.

  • Too bad I am on Optus. Else I would seriously consider this one.
What about Meizu MX2 and ZTE Nubia? ANyone seen stocks available in Australia?

    • -1

Forget about ZTE, since now in China, besides foreign brands Samsung, Apple and Nokia, Only Xiaomi and Meizu phones can really attract people eyes.

      • It was true 6 months ago but now Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo are putting more efforts on high end mobile phones. XiaoMi and Meizu are no longer the best.

        • -1

if u got the chance to try them all, u'll find out the three brands u said actually not good at making smart phones with trusted quality.

        • btw XiaoMi and Meizu are not even in top 5 most popular brands in China

        • -2

For phone with trusted quality, I would consider Samsung s3.

Xiaomi's quality should be on the same level as the other big brands in China.

  • For those people that wants a good specs phone and don't want the big screen, this maybe a good option. Seems like a lot of people is complaining that all the high end android phones is very big and getting bigger.

  • This phone is one of the most popular phones in China. As well as Meizu MX2 which has more outstanding engineering design inside and outside.

  • I have bought from unique mobiles before and would never buy from them again. Especially not a China phone. it will break down and their after sales service is non existent.

    • +1

hmm, good points. Except this is from Mobicity, not Unique Mobiles.

    • +1

chineese phones are different, make a research before you buy, don't get smth cheap and you'll be fine

  • Removable battery and USB on the go is worth quite a lot.

There's really no excuse for the nexus 4 not to have on the go.

    • I agree with you, but Google do this on purpose as they want users to use the google cloud drive rather than external storage.

  • +1

Meh the attraction of Chinese phones is getting nice hardware specs at a low price.

This on the other hand is just a phone with nice specs.

  • The phone is all right if it is selling at sub 400 level, i own the first generation XiaoMi one and found it rather reliable.

IT started out as a fully unlocked, root out of the box phone but in order to get more everyday users onboard, it has locked the ROM in recent version of the roms.

they just release the 3000 mah battery and thicker cover, if the mobilecity asking price include the lager battery and cover, them it is worth it.

    Just get this people

  • Mini-SIM means nanoSIM I suppose? (GSMArena specs)

edit: Found out from the Motorola deal that mini-SIM refers to what we call a "standard sized" sim.

    • Wikipedia would tell you the same. =)

  • Hi, guys…have to confess that xiaomi 2 is the most popular and economic 4 core HD cell in China, at least on the Internet as xiaomi company always sell them on the Internet, following the same marketing tactic as apple: Hungry Marketing. Till now nobody knows exactly how many xiaomi 2 has been sold. The public only access the official data and news that xiaomi 2 has been sold in millions after its launching the Chinese market and they always been grabbed in seconds on the website.

    • Do you believe those reports? There is little credibility from most of Chinese companies.

      • I don't know…as I indeed don't care about this brand of cell, paying no attention on it. But still have to acknowledge that xiaomi 2 is really hot in China coz of its nice price and fantastic components. A fact is in recent two yrs, Chinese companies have been launching more and more delicate cell brands and products, an outstanding example is MEIZU MENGXIANG2. (MENGXIANG means DREAM).
