Free 4GB MP3 Player from Factory Fast

13

Essentially a refer-a-friend thing.

Give them the e-mail addresses of 100 people and they'll give you a free 4GB MP3 player (you don't pay postage either).

However, you have to import addresses from Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo! Mail.

Sure - it's not the best freebie or easiest, but if you have the time (and can be bothered), it's a free $50 MP3 player.

I've finished mine - it just says you will be contacted by email if successful.

UPDATE:
I just got this email (about 5 minutes after I completed the offer):

I go to extraordinary lengths to prevent my primary email address from spam lists; and now they will pay someone else 50 cents for it? Goddamn there are no words for how furious that would make me feel - selling something you don't own.

  • It may be a spam generator.

  • Firstly, I would not like it if my email address was given to a company without my knowledge or consent (especially by a "friend").

Secondly, I doubt the MP3 player is worth $50.

Thirdly, it is questionable as to whether you will actually receive the MP3 player. See the numerous complaints in the Factory Fast’s Daily Auction - Unique Bid for Free discussion on the OzBargain blog, in the Shopping.com Merchant Directory and on Whirlpool.

In fact, scotty might want to consider adding a warning note to their store profile - even though he posted one one of their deals a while back ;)

C'mon. Everyone makes mistakes :) I've got lots of bad reports from FactoryFast — I actually have to remove half of the comments on my FactoryFast blog post because of rude words from disgruntled customers. I am in the process of resolving some "public image" issue with these guys so I'll stop my comment here…

        Do I smell a 2Clix in the making? ;)

Funnily enough, the Warcom online computer store also had a "public image" issue with FactoryFast - FF was illegally using the Warcom trademark, according to Paul Warren.

  • I'm hoping this is a joke, because if its true, its a breach of the National privacy principles (specifically point 1.2 and 1.4) which are part of the privacy act 1988.

    • Interesting point. National Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act 1988 regarding collection of personal information:

      1. Collection

1.1 An organisation must not collect personal information unless the information is necessary for one or more of its functions or activities.

1.2 An organisation must collect personal information only by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive way.

1.3 At or before the time (or, if that is not practicable, as soon as practicable after) an organisation collects personal information about an individual from the individual, the organisation must take reasonable steps to ensure that the individual is aware of:

      (a) the identity of the organisation and how to contact it; and
      (b) the fact that he or she is able to gain access to the information; and
      (c) the purposes for which the information is collected; and
      (d) the organisations (or the types of organisations) to which the organisation usually discloses information of that kind; and
      (e) any law that requires the particular information to be collected; and
      (f) the main consequences (if any) for the individual if all or part of the information is not provided.

1.4 If it is reasonable and practicable to do so, an organisation must collect personal information about an individual only from that individual.

1.5 If an organisation collects personal information about an individual from someone else, it must take reasonable steps to ensure that the individual is or has been made aware of the matters listed in subclause 1.3 except to the extent that making the individual aware of the matters would pose a serious threat to the life or health of any individual.
