Microsoft Security Essentials are "free" and no coupon needed.

What happened to that facebook link to several free popular brand antivirus programs recently?

    • MSE is reasonable if you are willing to take a chance (it only has basic functions), but if you want better protection you'd want a better commercial solution - the likes of Kaspersky, Emsisoft. Avast is probably the best rated free one lately.

Virus or Nortons……I'll take the virus thanks.

NEVER install nortons unless you want your computer to work at 1/3 of the speed it use to.

Or not….its your choice, its why there is Pepsi and Coke. (or in Nortons case, like drinking the mud at the bottom of the pools in Bundaberg after the floods)

    Good luck!!!

    • When was the last time you actually used Norton?

Issues with boot times and performance are issues of years ago. I use Norton on all my PCs and can confidently say it is one of the least resource consuming Security suites out there.

Rather than bringing emotion into it, it's probably advisable that you do some research.

On every computer I get to fix.

Yes it's features are nice, but its dependency on resources require you to have tons more I/O and ram then the computers it's typically installed upon.

Nortons on a $400 netbook with windows 7/8 and 2gb ram - you'd bet better off with a pen and paper.

Also the monitoring that occurs when you restart, it's processes weigh down the OS heavily.

Yes, I'm sorry for emotion ing it, but little early without coffee and sick of people saying the new computer is too slow. Then when they look at you when you say you can't fix it unless the spec up their hardware more. Just chaps my ___ a little.

  • $50 out of pocket. No deal.

  • I am still waiting for my cash back on the previous Norton promo…
