Free Food Foraging Opportunities in Brisbane

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Just thought I'd let you know about this cool map that tells you where there are edible plants in Brisbane.

I pick the herbs at Southbank a fair bit. Picked some basil and thyme last weekend, steeped them in some olive oil a couple of days and made a nice herb oil.

Unfortunately the rosemary bushes got wiped out in the 2011 floods and no one has replanted them.

The Kei apple tree in the Botanical gardens not bad either, I reckon those apples would make a good pie. The season has just passed on those, unfortunately.

Please dont vandalise the map, and please don't link to the locations of any psychotropic plants.

I updated another bunch on mango trees in Spring Hill for you. Great idea!

  • hmm, reminds me of that free "pick your own mandarin" thread a while back http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77197, although you would have to eat a huge amount of basil/thyme etc to fill you up like a mandarin!

  • Is there a version of this for Sydney?
