HN is out to make money as does 99.99% of all the other businesses out there. Yes, they do screw up every so often just like 99.99% of the companies out there. However, they do come out with some damn good deals every so that is great for all consumers.

      1) BOGOF laptops and Cameras
      2) BOGOF $20 itunes cards
      3) 9c photocentre prints
      4) discounted tablets (eg. HP Touchpads, cheap Acer tablets etc).

list goes on.. Do a search on this forum and you will see so many highly voted deals.

Consumers do speak with emotions at times (arguably for their own views), but it is up to people's own choices on who they shop from - and what matters on THIS forum is good value for money.

Their $500 Ultrabook cashback last year was particularly good too.

        • +1

Yeah, I bought one and I wish I had bought 10

    • sorry, my loyalty lies with the deal

    • i do agree with you, but i dont think it is nice to bring in "bogans" in the comment.

    • +2

Only buying from HN when they set their prices to the bottom of the market is the sweetest revenge you can get.

  • Is this deal applicable for trade in on laptop???

  • -1

Is there any chance a store like JB Hi-Fi would price match this deal (I have a couple hundred dollars of gift cards)… or does the fact that JB would have no use for a broken laptop mean there's no chance?

    • no,the fact both shop must offer the same deal as the first rule of price match means no chance

  • Can I take out the HDD then give it to them?

    • They won't bother to check.

    • exactly my thought!

    • I was advised when I check my store was doing this to take it out before coming to protect my private data +1 for good service.

  • +3

Just get a crappy case and fill it with bricks and keep all the internal HW.

    • don't even worry about the bricks so you don't strain your back from carrying the case :)

  • So do you have to trade an old tablet for a $100 a tablet or could you trade a normal desktop for a $100 off a tablet?

  • Couldnt you just give them an empty $20 PC case?

  • Damn I only just threw out my old pentium 3 computer that we had in the garage for about 10 years.

  • +3

can I ask them to price match ipad 4 with dick smith for $499 and then get $100 off by trade in? that makes it sweet $399!

    • .

      • T&C mentioned nothing on that

        • $500 min spend though.

        • $499 according to T&Cs

        • +1

OK I went and tried this on and was told 'no double dipping' so I could price match to 499 or get the money off to 449 on a 16GB ipad.

    • Let us know how you go!

      • called a few stores. NO. either pm or $100 trade in.

        • That's a real shame. :(

    • good

Wow. I can't believe people are trading their ZTE v9.
My daughter has one with a 16gb sd card with a lot of mickey mouse clubhouse and it is indestructible.
She has dumped food all over it. Thrown it all over the place and worse thing that has happened was a reboot.
Will not trade it in yet I believe it has a few more years in it…..hopefully.
Other reason why she has it is so my sgs3 is not destroyed.

    • Mine had 2 hours of use before the kid dropped it. The screen cracked. I still have it.

I have an ipad 1. I watch TV shows during after-School activities. Is the retina display ipad worth buying?

      • It's worth the trade from ipad 1 but not so much for ipad 2

  • +1

I traded in my broken ZTE this morning at Auburn HN and after the Samsung Cash back $100 offer, at the end I only paid the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 for $344. I thought it would be worth putting this as separate deal:

"P.C." is very general. To be honest, I think my inoperable Amiga 500 is too generous. I wonder how close to a (non-functional) abacus you can get before they draw the line (of course you'd have to stick some wires or a solar panel on said abacus to qualify as e-waste).

  • +1

Isn't ipad 5 coming out next month? Bad time to buy now…

  • Can I trade in the old rack mount server? It's twice the size of PC.

  • +1

Can anyone please confrim this for me? Can I trade in my old laptop? In T&C, it says inoperable PC or tablet. I am not sure if thry meant only desktop PC?

  • -1

I hope this is not one of Gerry's pricing errors.

BTW, are we "professional" shoppers allowed to participate?

  • It strikes me that M$ Surface technology is overpriced and overrated. I expect that there are more and better bargains to come.

    • +2

No point buying the RT version, the Pro version is the only way to go.

      • +2

You do realize Pro will be double the price, right. And 50% heavier with 50% the battery life. Not everyone needs an i5 tablet/laptop.

        • +1

I agree not everyone needs an i5 tablet however even at twice the price/weight/heat and half the battery stamina the Surface Pro will still sell extremely well purely because they will just slot into business/corporate Windows environments without any mucking around and offer the compatability of a Windows PC/Notebook with the flexibility/portability/bling-ability of an iPad. I for one cannot wait to flush out Apple products from our non-Apple corporate environment. Great devices by themselves but not so great in a non-Apple office :( Same goes for Android stuff but at least that isn't tethered to the iTunes middle-man.

        • Yeah I'm pretty sure it'll sell, but they are aimed at different markets.

Some people only do lighter word processing, powerpoint, email, and web browsing tasks, along with a small number of apps. An i5 tablet would be way overkill. They would have to pay double the price for double the weight and half the battery life. Those people would find something like a Surface RT or one of the Atom tablets a lot more suitable.

So saying "the Pro version is the only way to go" is rather misleading. It's the only way to go if you need to do heavy tasks, but definitely the wrong way to go if your needs are lighter.

  • HV…here I come!!
I think i have a few dead notebooks sitting around with their rams and HDs ripped out already!
You recon they will accept them?
    Saves $100 off ipad…good deal?

  • Does anyone know if I can buy 2 ipad2 to make my purchase over 499?
or it has to be a single unit which is over $499?

    • same question i hope someone might be able to answer too. 2 x (16gb) ipad mini(s)

  • Traded in an old pentium 3 With a 20gb Hdd for 100 off iPad 4 32gb at Thomastown VIC. Wanted to do the deal in Preston but they had no stock. The Preston store had to convince Thomastown that the deal included Apple Products. Happy for them to take it off my hands. Good deal I think.

Edit: White, black was in stock

    • was ur old trash working??

      • Nope, they just took it out the back, no idea if they opened the case to check the internals though they did note the pent 3 sticker and case name cause they had to enter that into their system to get the discount code

  • Traded my Optus MyTab for a 16gb iPad with retina display. They accepted it even though it had the Cyanogen ROM on it. They booted it up to make sure it worked. I thought you could hand in an unworkable device. But they took mine anyway, it worked fine. I got the iPad from HN in Preston (Vic). It was the last 16gb iPad they had.

  • +2

Here's a link for all the tablets and laptops that qualify ie more than $499. Saves having to click on tablets then on laptops as they are categorised separately on HN's website.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/promos/recycle-and-be-rewarde…

  • Can someone clarify for me, where it says,

"To qualify for discount, customer must spend $499 or more on a P.C. or tablet in a single transaction at the Franchise. Discount will be supplied at the time of pick up."

Do I have to pay for it at full price online with the Pickup option, then get reimbursed with $100 when I go to the store to pick it up with an old pc for trade in. Or can I just turn up at a store with the old pc, and get the deal on the spot?

    • Your latter option is your answer. Someone made a comment about this.

  • Can someone tell me for trade in whether i have to surrender monitor also or just CPU is enough?

    • Not just a CPU needs at least a tower i guess

  • Turned in an old non working android 1.6 chinese brand tablet resistive screen. $100 off ipad :)

  • I went to moore park harvey norman today and they said it wasn't valid for ipads!

What stores are people getting success?

    • +5

It is advertised on the internet dude. Show them their own website and tell them to browse through it every morning before they go to work.

  • My neighbour bought a computer from Hardly Normal during the week. She doesn't have internet and was assured by the sales person that everything she needed was preinstalled.

She got it home only to find that she had to download Windows from the net (which she doesn't have,) so took it back on Friday. She was unaware of this offer, but commented that their prices had jumped significantly from when she was there just a couple of days earlier.

    • +1

She's absolutely correct on this. I've been looking at windows 8 tablet/laptop hybrids and found a link to Harvey Norman on static ice. Following the link revealed a $50 increase, presumably in the last day or so. I wouldn't be surprised if this occured across most of the range to offset us 'professionals' looking for good prices from the current promotion.

  • +2

If anyone is still wondering, I can confirm I was able to purchase 2 cheaper tabs under $499 each (the total was over $499 though) to receive the deal. Bought a Nexus 7 32gb and a Galaxy Tab II 7" 8gb and traded in my old acer netbook and got the deal

    • That's handy for those hoping to get 2 cheap tablets totalled > $499 but still get $100 by recycling their old PCs. That is $319 for an iPad mini 16gb each if you buy 2.

    • Did they take 50 off each? Or 100 in one and 0 in the other?

      • +1

Receipt just shows the full price of each item (which was $235 for the Galaxy and $294 for the Nexus) and then a item at the bottom for $100 discount.

I did however try this at Fountain Gate to try and double up with the Samsung cashback offer, but got rejected. I got my deal at Chadstone

  • do they really care if you bring in something to recycle? I just got rid of my old computer junk in a free council e-waste.

My mother-in-law wants an ipad (16gb & cellular/3g). Not sure if she wants ipad2 or the new ipad, either way its over $499.

You guys are saying the Harvey Norman is more expensive than usual, but according to their website

    Ipad 4th gen 16gb wifi & 3g = $679 (same as DSE)
    Ipad2 16gb wifi & 3g = $545 ($4 cheaper than DSE)

I'm assuming HN website prices are not including the $100 off?

    • yea, you will get $100 off their online/store price when trade-in instore.

  • any one know if HN will accept broken laptop? my nephew dropped my dad's old Dell laptop this morning, the screen cracked and the keyboard popped, its definitely is a piece of trash now,hm…I am about to throw it out but saw this deal so just wonder if i can use it to receive a $100 off to get a new samsung tablet….

    • The t&c says "unwanted or inoperable" so they might not mind a cracked screen.

  • +1

Just traded in my friend's dead PC and got $100 off the note 10.1. They did not care whether it works or not. The saleman told me that they will send all of these PCs to a scrap metal company and get some money back from them. So don't worry if your old PC/Laptop/Tablet is in terrible condition, they will take it. (However I am not sure if you can just trade-in an empty PC case!)

If you are interested in getting the galaxy note 10.1 16g wifi but doesn't have old PC to trade-in, JB is selling it for $494. I think you can negotiate to get $50 off easily, which will bring the price down to $444 = Harvey Norman price after trade-in.

    • how should i negotiate in jb? price match?

  • I just got 32gb iPad mini ($479) with my old laptop trade off. I just have to buy a cheapest case for $29(rip off any way) to make the price more than 498 to become eligible for the offer. Over all not a bad deal. First the salesman sad he won't be able to combine it but later on he agreed to "bend the offer" for me.
