Better of paying the extra $80 for a 32Gb Nexus 7 3G IMHO
Faster CPU, Double the Storage, Sharper Screen, better compatibility & larger firmware modding scene.

          7" vs 9.7" + HDMI + GPS + 60 days satisfaction return Warranty.

        • you will be using this 1 day into it lol haha .. complete garbage QTY tablets from Aldi and THIS Brand!

  • other issue is the chip it uses… i know my acer a500 isnt able to play some files, wouldnt mind something with a better chip…

    • HP Touchpad has a dual core 1.2ghz. Plays up to 720p mkvs fine in android using mx player (haven't tried 1080p)

  • Plus for 60 days return

  • May be the same model as the one from sep last year http://www.tempoaustralia.com/sw/amid-972xs/AMID-972XS_IM.pd…

    • What was the price back then?

    • The linked unit does not have 3G and is powered by Amlogic 8726-M at 1.5GHz (rather than 1.2GHz here). Would be interested to find out the actual spec of this deal…

  • I wonder what the screen resolution on this is?

edit: ok, beaten. same as HP Touchpad. In fact, a lot about this is the same as HP Touchpad (processor, screen size, resolution). But with extra features (and android natively).

  • For $88 more, i'll go with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-10-1-16g…

    • +1

the samsung you suggested is without 3g, isn't mln motorola xoom2 a better deal for $50 ?

    • +1

      Not 3G

I wonder who manufactured this tab for Aldi - you know, the real Bauhn identity?

  • does the zoom have HDMI output and GPS?

  • Given "1024 x 768" one might as well -$100 for an 8";

In any case it would be a silly time to buy until mobile congress reveals more in the coming week.

    • where is the price mentioned for the ZTE-v81 tablet?

    • Here's hoping it's 150. (TBA)

  • Using it for 60 days for free is definitely unbeatable.

    • Unbeatable for abusing the system.

    • +2

by that time the next great thing will be out, and it will be cheaper! can live off these freebies!

call me crazy and not in the spirit of ozbargain, but i rekon thats wrong… (use it and return it even though there is nothing wrong with it)

  • To me 3g isn't such a big selling point, but I get why plenty want a tablet with it. Though personally the ease in which it is to enable tethering on mobile phone and the savings in cost are also worth noting, since this is ozbargain after all. ;)

I don't think it worth comparing a nexus 7 to this, they are in different categories. I personally wouldn't consider a 10 inch or 9.7 inch tablet over a 7 inch one, just because I want a tablet that is more portable. Different people want/need different things, plenty may prefer the bigger screen, and would never consider such a tiny tablet. Each to their own. xD

That being said this seems like a reasonable deal when comparing what currently available.

  • The Braun site (braun.com.au) does not exist!!!

  • I took back 3 tablets from Aldi ( SAME BRAND as this).. all were complete Garbage! one DOA, one died after 6 hours…
but those were $99 and 7" CRAP TFT LCD so who knows, these ones maybe pretty good! At that price though i would get a Kogen

  • Spec is listed on the ALDI website http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_25635.htm

I think it's about time you heard from somebody who's actually got one. I can tell you the 3G works beautifully. It has a huge 6 amp-hour battery, it has an IPS display which means it doesn't go negative when you tilt it. It is NOT the same in any way as the tablet Aldi sold last year. There is no HDMI output. I have never needed or wanted this facility, so I'm OK with that.

I tried a 64 Gig SDXC card and it didn't recognise it. Shame. It does have USB host capability although it isn't mentioned anywhere. I plugged in a short OTG cable and it mounts flash drives, etc. Quite OK.

What is REALLY annoying is the sockets for the SIM and TF cards, which are underneath a little cover which is sure to get lost in the first week. The only way to get either card in is to push it repeatedly with a fingernail, and I mean repeatedly, 10 or more times. Getting it to come out is even worse. If you're a nail-biter, you won't do it without some kind of tool. Also, the micro-USB connector is recessed, so that a lot of cables won't reach in far enough to connect. I had to hack my OTG cable with a pocket knife before I could use it.

It's a shame that so many otherwise good Aldi products have stupid flaws like this. I hope it doesn't end up driving me crazy and hating the whole thing.

The only other thing I can think of is that it wouldn't play some .flv and .mp4 video clips. I have installed some alternative media players, but haven't had time to try them yet.

I would also like to express undisguised contempt for people who deliberately abuse Aldi's generous 60 day return policy, some of whom have appeared here.

I hope this first-take report is useful to somebody.
