book online get upto 4256 skyward miles(Mel-Auck). New joinees to skywards get 2500 skyward miles free.

    • Is the 2500 skyward miles for free because you book the trip online? The only promo that comes close is the "Book online & earn up to 150% more Skywards Miles". Is this the one you're referring to for the 2500 free miles?

      • 2500 Skyward points is your joining bonus for first flight. if you book online, you will get 130% sky miles for economy class ticket.

The deal isn't quite as good as it sounds. The catch?

It's $99 plus taxes one way which puts it closer to ~$200 each way and ~$400 return. Plus NZ$25 departure tax in NZ (separate to any taxes included on the ticket).

The ACCC said something about airlines advertising fares "plus taxes", obviously Emirates think they're above this?

Just as a point of reference Air NZ have Mel/Syd/Bne/GC to NZ for A$438 (including taxes).

  • Price includes fuel surcharge. Airport taxes not included and range from $83 for one way and $133 for return Economy Class travel. Travel dates vary.

Actually this is a pretty good deal and I just found a way to make it better.

So I took a radom route and date:

    Sydney -> Christchurch
    Depart 14 Feb 2009
    Return 21 Feb 2009

Price with Emirates $305.44 including taxes

Now do the same with Jetstar

Price is 334.54 including taxes and 20kg of lugguage but not meals etc.

Now Jetstar have a price beat guarantee:
*If you find a published internet airfare on another airline that is lower than the lowest available comparable Jetstar fare on Jetstar.com and you purchase the fare through our call centre, we will beat that lower fare by 10%, provided we can verify the lower fare when you call to book. Another airline’s fare which has less than 20kg checked baggage allowance or excludes checked baggage allowance is comparable to Jetstar’s JetSaver Light fare and a fare which includes at least 20kg checked baggage allowance is comparable to Jetstar’s JetSaver fare. The comparable fare must be for a one way direct flight on the same route at a comparable time.

So that would in effect make the cost of the trip $277.67 (305.44/1.10) if you flew with Jetstar. The only catch is as per their T&C's is that this 10% price beat guarantee is only until 23 Feb 2009 so it would only be for flights before that date.

Still $278 return to NZ is not bad. Mind you though I would prob pay the extra $30 to fly with Emirates anyway but still.

    • keep in mind:

The applicable flight on the other airline must be a direct flight for the exact route departing and arriving at the same airports as the applicable Jetstar flight, and must be scheduled to depart:

      • within 1 hour of the applicable Jetstar flight, in the case of domestic Australia (ie direct flights wholly within Australia), or direct flights between Australia and New Zealand

I don't think they're within one hour so the price match guarantee wouldn't be valid.

      • Yep spot on - Just double checked as well and they're out by a couple of hours.

Still I think I'd rather fly Emirates anyway and hence why this is a top deal :D

        • +1 on that.

Emirates would be a textbook no-brainer here.

    • Thanks for the good work!!

  • yep, definitely just go emirates.

  • Thumbs up to Emirates - inflight entertainment is very good - better than Singapore imho. I flew after booking tickets though a special offer posted by someone here early last year.

Jetstar is by far the worst airline i've ever flown with international & domestic.

I wish Emirates flew direct to Christchurch from Melbourne.

Thanks heaps!! Booked flights for 2 adults and 2 kids Sydney-Auckland September 2009. Four of us included taxes is $1,173.60 return fares! I've been checking flights to NZ with Air NZ, Virgin Blue and even Jetstar previously as we are planning to visit NZ for this year holiday. It's great I can get it good deal with Emirates and we'll be flying by Airbus 380..woo..hoo…!!

  • NZ doesn't have the departure tax anymore (must be part of the ticket taxes now). Was there is August and no departure tax.

    • I can tell you with some certainty that that isn't true. I was there the week before Christmas and you weren't going anywhere unless you had purchased the $25 sticker for the back of your boarding pass.

    • The tax has been scrapped from Auckland airport but from what I can see still applies to all other international airports like Christchurch.

  • i departed from Auckland, so i was partially right :)

  • Tried booking last night before deadline. And their system failed after 11:30pm. When it came back up again after 50 minutes of so the prices had changed. The system failed on processing of the credit card. Also interesting as their 10-12 jan deadline relates to AEST not Australia as inferred by their promotions.

Anyone have any hardcopy details of the date conditions?

All online data about the offer seems to have disappeared. Ring their 1300 number - answers - says call back later or wait - then it goes to engaged signal.

While found inflight service is impeccable, their booking and ground support sucks - will see what happens with my email enquiry - if not will be flying AirNZ.
