Ebony Asus EEE 1000H 160GB 10.2" Atom netbook $599

170

(see pg 9 of catalog): Intel Atom 1.6Ghz CPU. This is the 160GB Seagate Momentus 5400.4 or 5400.5 version (faster than the 80GB, Seagate 5400.3 version) & 6-cell battery. Consider too using Officeworks to price match - $5%, ie: $569 total. Best price seen for a while!!

NOTE: Their website lists it at $599 (1000BHT) and $699(1000H). Is this advertising spin or the real deal?

  • will this run windows 95?

    • Only between operating system crashes!!!
      [ :- { )

    • I don't think you'll be able to run Win95 on this machine. Sure it's more than capable of running it, but I don't think drivers are available for any of the parts within…

iirc the Atom processor is only compatible with XP/Vista/Linux (32bit OS)

It comes with XP. Runs it very well, it's 6-cell battery giving 4-7 hours running time!

Read/write of HDD netbooks is >50% faster than SSD ones. In lowest price order..

$399 Acer Aspire One, with 3-cell battery, 8GB SSD, $399.
http://www.mln.com.au/search/?type=search&searchItem=netbook… . Personally would avoid as is a 10.2" bezel with only a 8.9" screen..

$479 Asus EEE 900A, 8GB SSD, 4-cell battery http://www.harveynorman.com.au/products/index.php/computers/… . Some shops still say $448, now online is $479!!! Whirlpooler reported a haggled down to $420.

$499 Medion AKOYA 1210 (similar to MSI Wind U100, though only 3-cell battery, instead of 6 cell) 10.2", 160GB http://www.aldi.com.au

    $529 EEE 900HA 160GB HDD, 4-cell battery, 8.9" screen
http://www.mln.com.au/search/?type=search&searchItem=netbook… . Officeworks may have these.. so pricematch.

    • 4 cells is shit enough but jez 3 cells! Don't touch that.

This bargain gets my tick of approval :)
Provided it is in fact the 1000H and not the 1000HD…

I can't find anything even remotely close to that price for the 160GB variation.

    • Agreed - Great find!

    • Its the 1000H, Intel Atom CPU! (1000HD is the Celeron).

      • But the 2nd image on the page (wwhere you can see the screen and keyboard) advertises it as a 1000HD!

        • The advertising text says "Intel Atom 1.6Ghz".. the second picture has a 1000HD. Has anyone ordered one to confirm it is a Atom?

Jaan, Senior Consultant, MLN West Melbourne advises, quote "Please go according to advertised specs". The advertised specs are

Processor: Intel Atom Processor 1.6 GHz
Memory: 1 GB DDR2 RAM (Upgradable to 2GB)
      Storage: 160GB HDD
      Screen: 10 inch WXGA
      Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP
Built in Devices: Bluetooth, Webcam, Wireless, Card Reader, 3x USB, Ethernet
Category: 12 Months Pick Up Warranty

      • Does it come with CD/DVD ROM or Burner?

  • How do you know they only have White in stock? The site says Ebony (Black) is in stock.

  • Thanks Ruraro!

Looks like they are doing a shifty now.. advertising a 1000H with 1.6Ghz Atom, correct photo, then a 1000BHT, 1.6Ghz processor (doesn't say atom), and picture is a 1000HD (Celeron).. now what kind of ad is that? There is no MLN1000BHT model asus model.

The real 1000H is advertised on their website for $699. Correct photo, correct specs, market price.
Is they doing a Dell or NZ Air?

  • i went to the OW store in Sydney CBD, they wouldn't match it citing their longer warrenty period… (2 yr @OW vs. 1 yr @MLN)

    • I went to Office Works and they beat the price by 5% (ie. $569.05). Comes with 1yr manufacturer's warranty. Got extra 1yr by using credit card at no extra cost. Great deal!

  • I just called MLN on the 1300 number and they said they were out of stock :( I'm planning to go to the local OfficeWorks and ask them to beat the price. Hopefully they'll have it in stock and won't call MLN to verify stock.

  • D Noxious, which Office Works store did you go to? many thanks.

  • I went to Officeworks at Castle Hill, but they don't have any stock. The sales guy said they had 5 on order, but didn't know when they were due in.
