expired Canon EF 50mm F1.8II Lens $99 Pickup at DSE (Limited locations)
Hi All,
This seems to be the cheapest price around for an "Australian" stock** If you are looking for a good beginners prime lens, you should definitely take a look at this lens.
It's a handy lens if you are purchasing the 1100D for $328 at HN :)
They seem to have limited quantities in QLD, not sure about other states.
**(meaning that Canon will service it if you have any issues during your Warranty period)

It's 100% plastic, including the mounting bracket, and isn't the kind of lens you'll still own in 20 years.
That being said, if you're a starving artist or student who needs a fast portrait kinda lens on a really strict budget, you can definitely make really good use of the lens before you can afford something better.
I do own this lens, and still use it on the odd occasion, but I mostly keep it around with my beater camera in case I'm going somewhere I don't want to take expensive gear.

My copy of the lens was quite sharp. Ugly bokeh though. No rounded aperture blades so you end up with hexagon shapes and not circles. AF is loud and is quite slow. If you only have a kit kens and you are not taking pictures of infants and pets, then this would be a good addition.

it is a good lens, but if you can afford an extra $200, the 50mm 1.4 lens in infinitely better…
