    • That's the i5, as opposed to this i7

My mistake, still $1600 on a laptop nowadays is like buy a new car. Devalues as soon as you leave the dealership.

Give it 6 months it'll be down by 20-30% as usual.

    • This one is i7 and 256GB SSD

  • Moots, thanks for sharing. The TaiChi of the above deal is of i7 which runs much faster and efficient.

I wonder what Asus was thinking when they thought to make it dual screens when it almost halves the battery life.

      • I doubt it's the screens fault, surely they're not both running at the same time…

        • actually the taichi can have both screens running at the same time

      • "I wonder how many of these duds we can sell before people catch onto that its just a gimmick"

Completely unjustifiable device for the cost given the battery life and its marketing as an ultrabook.

Wait for version 2…still doesn't fix its exorbitant price though with questionable uses for a dual screen.

the taichi is an example of a solution looking for a problem

there arent many situations where you need two screens

i dont think there will be a "Version 2" as they realise having 2 screens isnt helpful at all

but yeah… wait until xmas and i reckon they will be under $1k given they're a white elephant

      • Yes. I dont know why they did not realise that to use a laptop as a Tablet, they could have rotated the screen like Dell XPS rather than making a new one. But looks like it is too late.

Bigest disapointment with this ultrabook, is that the "internal" screen is not a touch screen, only the outside is. As it has windows 8 installed, which is extremely awkward without a touch screen, I am not sure I understand what ASUS were thinking by not including a touch screen on the inside as well as the outside. That may have made more sence.. so can be used as a normal ultrabook, then close it and use it as a tablet.. and for the odd ocasions you may want to present to a group of people, while your still in ultrabook mode you can.

Normally ASUS has come up with great ideas for their premium products.. look at the zenbook for example, however this time round.. the person at the steering wheel i think was a bit hmm tipsy.. None of the new ASUS ultrabooks/tablets/convertables coming out make much sence.. the transformer book for example.. top range model i7.. only has 128gbSSD in the "tablet".. sure there is an extra physical HD in the doc.. but only when your using the doc… dont get why they didnt put the std 256gb SSD in there, that is a norm for the premium models.

    • Thank you for bringing to light that the internal screen is not a touch screen- I for one didn't realise. I would have considered buying this over the surface pro.

    • Easy.. Cost.. and will add to the thickness if you add an extra layer of touch.

Thats why I went with the Samsung Ativ Smart PC Pro instead at around the same price range.
