  • Ahhh, so the CoTD ban has been lifted then…
    [ :- { )

    • There was a ban on cotd postings?

      • Oh yeah…, but that's obviously ancient history now, so we'll all move on.
        [ :- { )

There has never been a permanent ban on CotD. A site will only been permanently banned from OzBargain if they are violating our terms of services (esp ghost accounts, sock puppeting, and obvious spamming).

  • +1

negative vote, no matter how cheap they are.

that DSE page is a pack of:

      This Pack item includes:

      XC4279 E8851 XH1737
      1 x HP Mini-Note 1001TU 10.2" PC (XC4279)
      1 x Virgin Broadband Wireless Prepaid (E8851)
      1 x CASELOGIC 10" Notebook Bag Black (XH1737)

      • +1

Actually if you just want to buy the Mininote 1001TU from DSE, it's actually $1 more expensive than the Virgin Broadband bundle (and a lot more expensive than CotD).

        • At first, I thought D!ck Smith was CHEAPER than CoTD $864 looked like $664.
SO I posted saying DSE was cheaper.
          Whoops.

    BIG FAT PERFORMANCE WARNING

1.8" harddisk in these things keeps things compact.. however!! 1.8" 4200rpm ZIF harddisk=20MB/s average read/write speed. This is SLOW. compared..

    A 2.5" 160GB/120GB in say the asus eee 1000H or MSI Wind U100 harddisk=60MB/s average read/write (ie: 3x faster).

The harddisk bottleneck means twiddle-dee twiddle-dum your thumbs waiting for the HDD to do it's thing. Is there a solution to the problem? Yep, the CHEAPEST 1.8" 5400RPM 160GB will cost ya $200AUS from the US (though it's still slower). So total=$900 and it will still be slower than the MSI/ASUS.

Function over form, or form over function?

    • +2

thanks of the heads up man! ill probably buy the eee 901 with the 160 HDD

These are slow and crap in my oppinion. for 400 more get a good speedy laptop with way better performance. Sorry but these are crap and not worth buying in my books. And beside the reasong its from dud COTD

While you might have a gripe with the product you should really vote +ve or -ve based on the deal. Also there are plenty of people who have had no issue with cotd.

      • It is based upon the deal. Thye are not good machines imo and i dont think the price is good considering how low teck they are. :S

        • +1

But thats the lowest price available by nearly $100ish bucks so how can it be based on the deal?

          • @Ndiddy: Just because it's cheaper than elsewhere does not make the item good value (let alone a bargain) in any way.

            Caveat emptor.

        • +2

Again, for netbooks (I need to be careful using these trademarked terms) it's the form over function. What other notebook at this price range weights at 1.01kg? I have both an Eee PC (super-slow 1st gen with SSD) and a proper C2D notebook and I use both of them because they were designed for different things.

… Otherwise you'll be voting negative on all the Atom powered netbooks because they are slow?

    • +1

Tested some netbooks in JB HiFi: Asus 7", 10", Acer, HP Mini notebook.

HP has a keyboard that feels natural for typing.

Asus 7" keyboard was a little cramped and the backspace is in an unnatural position compared to a regular keyboard.
      Same goes for the Acer.

10" … it could be 'cos it was on the display shelf, but I found my right palm kept brushing the mouse surface, which took the focus away from Notepad (which I was using to test the typing) … otherwise it felt fine to me, for typing.

negative purely because its from COTD. stayright away from this dodgy mob

    COTD = hassles and scam

  • I for one have had a number of GOOD online shopping experiences with CoTD, as well as hassles with their associate - Daily Deals.

Perhaps it's time that we members of the OzBargain community all took a deep breath and let CoTD start with a clean slate (as suggested by Scotty's lifting of the posting ban) and judge them by their performance from this time forward.

I'm sure QQQ is watching in the wings and is well aware of the sway that negative comment in online forums such as OzBargain and Whirlpool can have in the world of virtual shoppers.

    Live Long and Prosper.

I agree. I still cannot understand why people are still judging all the deals from this merchant based on that one single mis-calculated promotional event. If merchants on OzBargain are sorted by their "dodgyness", there will be a lot more a head of CotD.

The Acer from officeworks was much better deal. Just because it is the lowest price around does not make it a deal.

  • Wow what a stir this has caused. Well good news is that it's not available anymore so I guess that should end this.
