  • doh~! just won auction on ebay $320 1 month old but red lucky no red on kogan

  • omg cheap! i wonder what is the market price now in HK? anyone knows? how can kogan sell them so cheap?!

    • its cheap. i bought my brand new Galaxy Note 1(in Dec 2011) for A$488 and AUS dont even have it in stock yet.

  • looks good. i will wait for the free shiping from Kogan :)

    • +10

      It'll then cost $340 :)

  • Great price but delivery time is almost a month(2-3 weeks to dispatch + 1week shipping)

    • I think Kogan might be expecting the price to actually drop to $299 by the time they actually buy them from HK in 3 weeks time :/

  • i saw someone bought this 2 months ago at HN for $600+

    • 'nuff said

What are the problems with it?

      • +3

Unsure about the 820 specifically, but I had the 920. Heres the issues:

        • Weird random reboot bug. Phone would randomly restart for no obvious reason.
        • Multitasking was painful/nonexistant
        • No notification bar made it difficult to get around the phone. Someone comments on your facebook, cool, now what? Scroll back up to facebook app and tap it. Slow, not well thought out.
        • Nokia Drive is the worst. Putting in "james st, brisbane" would get you James Hot dog and Steak grill in Texas. (POI focused).

Basically, everything that Nokia had done with the phone, with the exception of Drive, was excellent. Phenomenal build quality, photo quality was incredible. Everything that Microsoft did, though, wrecked it.

        • +2

most of these issues were fixed with new firmware

        • "James Hot dog and Steak grill in Texas."

          I lol'd :)

        • Have had the 920 since Xmas, apart from copping only 32mbps when on lte with Telstra while a friend got 48 on sgn2, not too many troubles. Rebooted twice in 1st week, but hasn't at all since update. Never turn it off except when something goes funny, eg pages won't load or touch doesn't respond, about again once a week max.

App store a bit lacking, but still plenty to pass the time with, and I have only very minor complaints about the os, its much more user friendly than Android but I miss the granular settings of Cyanogen Mod. Def a phone for people thinking of getting or w anting a change from an iPhone, they obviously won't have any complaints except maybe not having some apps

        • Yeah, I returned mine before the new firmware was out… glad to know they got it sorted. It really sucked for me, because the last Nokia I had was the N900 and that was awesome through and through.

Can i haz nokia with 4.2 pls? :D

        • Nokia Drive still feels half baked though. I usually have to google a location and then enter the street address into Drive.

  • damn it, just bought it for $318 last week and they havent even shipped yet, wonder if I can return

chat and ask refund/store credit. quick~~~

thanks i did, offered $20 store credit back, not real cash but I guess it'll work.

  • These WP8 phones are getting temptingly cheap. My biggest concern are the apps. On my Android phone I use practically all the times Google Maps, Google Talk chat, eBay app, Pocket etc. And I seriously doubt I could get the same level of usability on WP8, if any app at all, especially for the Google products. Another thing is that my main draw to Nokia mobiles are their cameras, but from what I've understood, the Lumia 820's camera isn't actually that good.

    • actually, none of the phone camera any good, when u compare the 820 and the 920 cameras, 920's better, but its still just a phone camera, if you know what i mean

      • nokia 808 is good imo

        • +1

Was just about to say that also. Such a shame that Elop killed Symbian and that Nokia hasn't brought that camera technology to WP (yet?).

          Practically vapourware

Google has decided to play hard ball when it comes to WP8. To be honest I don't miss Google apps at all on my Lumia 920. Nokia Maps and Drive are pretty awesome and so is Nokia City Lense. Which is augmented reality software which will show an overlay of what shops, etc are around just pointing your phone in that direction. I can still get my Gmail on my phone, but have moved over to Outlook.com.

There is plenty of apps including Ebay and more and more local apps are becoming available. I have had 4 Android devices and honestly can't think of one feature I miss.

      • EBay app only good for buyers, sellers have very limited functionality

Stick with android. There's a reason they are throwing out these phones cheap.

      • I wish Android were as smooth as Windows Phone or iPhone….

      • If u ask me its not really that cheap, u can pick up a raze v or velocity on sale for a whole hundred less and they are comparable

    • There are ways of getting round this. There is a WP app called Buddytude for example that replicates Google Latitude for Windows Phones.

But yeah, I get what you mean. I use Gtalk, latitude, google maps, gmail. You start to depend on some apps.

    nokia maps are pretty good
there is an ebay app for WP too
not sure what you can use for chat
PS great price for an LTE phone from Nokia

Bloody hell what is with all the phone deals. I have a S3 but now I want the note 2 and the 820 deals posted.

    • I'm guessing you want the S4 too soon.. Anyway I know what you mean I want every phone that comes out lol.

      • I know that feel all too well… Nah the S4 doesn't intrigue me as much. The Note 2 ad where they make a meme of the guy really got me hooked but I got PicSayPro for that lol… well thats what I keep telling myself.

  • +1

This phone resolution is only 480x800?

    • +1

yes…same as galaxy S2 on the same screen size…not a big issue,
      the screen looks pretty good

      • It's not a huge issue but if you've become accustomed to screens with ~326ppi (eg iPhone 4) then ~217ppi isn't going to look as good.

  • Looks more like a HTC HD2 than a Lumia – have to say I prefer the original Lumia design (N9-based)

  • thats so damn cheap…
    its a nice phone btw.
hope they have some deals on the 920…

  • One month in and it's cheaper at @ $299 which includes shipping!

    • $298 to be exact now

  • bah not funny just a month and price cheaper $30 from where i bought
