      i hope so, great price….. i just bought one…. :|

      • Hey I came in for some interesting puns, it's been a while since we had some long and interesting Ainol posts.

Do we need another pump to suck the humour out of you guys,

        JV , where are you ? ;-)

  • My wife will have our first child next month.

Do you have to have specific Medala bottles to use this, or can you just use any?

I havn't heard of this brand before. I presume we will receive Avent bottles at the baby shower, because that's what everyone seems to have.

Medela is considered the best brand on the market and is used by hospitals world wide- it is far better than tomme tippee/avent.

My wife just uses the medela freezer bags however you can use bottles to store the milk as well (however this would be far more expensive).

For actually feeding your baby it all depends on the person. Our 8 month old son refused all brands except Pigeon however we have many friends whose kids use Avent and Nuk. The most important thing is making sure they are BPA free.

      hope this helps.

        ^ great response

we use this exact pump and it is great (so my wife says). we use the Medela bottles to pump into and also the Medela freezer bags for the excess.

For actual feeding, it depends on the baby and we found the Pigeon bottles better (as well as the Pigeon's range of teets that have different flow. apparently the most realistic feeling teets that won't cause nipple confusion).

The only downside to this is that once the milk is pumped into the Medela bottle, we have to transfer to the Pigeon bottle for actual feeding so two lots of bottles need to be cleaned (Pigeon bottles won't attach to the Medela pump). But if you're expressing into the bags then this point is moot.

You need Medela bottles to connect to the pump, but you can poor into something else, so you can just use the one it comes with.

The big advantage of the Medela bottles if you are using them for feeding as that the baby has to work to feed similar to normal breast feeding. On many bottles this isn't the case so some babies will get lazy and not learn how to breast feed properly. The feeding bottles are expensive though (actual bottle part is the same as this).

Having the same type for feeding/pumping is convenient, but not required.

    • thanks for your help guys! very helpful!

    • There's essentially two standards of bottle. The smaller diameter, including Medela, and the big diameter, which is obviously different. They're all pretty much cross-compatible within their size… we found that very few combinations would ever leak.

The pump will come with a bottle that's guaranteed to fit the pump fitting. If you need to store the milk, you can decant into other bottles or freezer bags to keep the pumping bottle exclusively for pumping.

Later in my wife's dairy career (our child had a cleft palate and couldn't BF, so she pumped exclusively for 9 months… love that woman) she was producing far too much for the little pump bottles, so she just used full-height generic brand bottles from the supermarket (which fit the pump without a worry).

As others have mentioned - Medela is the good gear. If you end up having to exclusive-pump then a double rig is pretty much essential… but for occasional use, a single is probably fine.

  • These are meant to be the best pumps on the market but may not be needed depending on how you plan to breastfeed baby. I'm using the Avent Via 180ml plastic containers for storage cos they can later be used for baby food too and the avent teats fit the storage container so you don't need extra bottles.
    Great price for this

This one is a single pump? I recommend getting a double to save time.

This is an absolute bargain. In most Australian stores it would cost you $200+. My wife have one for 4 months and it is great. So if you are expecting a baby it is well worth buying, or buy as a gift to expectant mother.
