Can anyone recommend adventure style games for Xbox 360?

My 7yr old daughter and I have an xbox 360 Kinect and we're just looking for some girly/kid or adventure type of games. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

We have the Kinect adventures, carnival and Disney but find them pretty boring - there's no story if you know what I mean?

We both like puzzle games eg. like aldara or even simpler ones. We also both like adventure/explory style games eg. Zelda style.

We're not into fighting or violent games. She quite likes browserquest but I think that's because its easy and she wins.

Probably should have bought a wii for the games I'm looking for.. but anyway :), any suggestions?

  • It doesn't have a story and not an adventure game but Kinect Sports is probably my favourite Kinect game, I think you can buy 1 and 2 together for about 50 bucks or so these days.

Apart from that she might like My Horse and me, i havent played it but it might be the type of game a 7 year old girl would like.

You might also want to look at some of the Lego games, they can be quite fun…maybe a little violent but not too bad.

  • Do you prefer side scrollers, top down view or third person?

  • +1

More generally to get some ideas perhaps have a look here:

The Lego games are fun and full of adventure and puzzles
    Pirates
    Indian Jones
    Star wars

+1 for LEGO games if you don't mind a bit of brick violence :)

One of my daughters (8yo) is a Harry Potter fan and we had great time last year finishing the series on Xbox.

    • +2 on the Lego games. For a girl the only ones that would probably appeal to her though is the Harry Potter games but they are also great 2 player games so you can play with her.

      • Ha ha really? Pretty generalised statement there - girls wouldn't like Pirates of the Caribbean? Or Batman? They really are designed to appeal to a wide audience and have heaps of characters so once you complete and unlock free play, you can choose to play as one of the female characters. +1 for all Lego games!

        • Well my sample of a couple of nieces showed no interest in 'boy games', specifically lego indie and Batman. But hey, YMMV.

        • I think kids like those LEGO games because they are already interested in the series those games are based on, be it Star wars, Pirates of Caribbean, Batman or Harry Potter.

For example we only let my daughter play each year of Harry Potter LEGO game after she has finished reading the book. She actually enjoyed the game more because she already knew the story.

Most kid girls though don't enjoy Batman as much (especially they probably associate it with Christopher Nolan's version). Star Wars is okay (especially when it's now Disney).

  • Have a look at Xbox Live Arcade for some fun stuff, for example Braid. You'll get the themes but to her it'll be a fun platformer about finding a princess.

Also perhaps the point and click games (Telltale games?) which I think are available on Xbox live like Sam and Max or Back to the Future.

Honestly though if I was you I'd look at investing in a Wii U so you can access Nintendo's family friendly games :)

    • I second the Telltale games, they are very good.

      • Except for walking dead… completely unsuitable for a 7 year old girl.

      • They are good, but I don't know if they would hold the attention of a 7 year old? Most of the people I know who like these games (Back to the Future, Sam and Max, etc.) have a lot of sentimental attachment to them in the first place. Also agree - The Walking Dead: The Game is amazing, but IMO not appropriate for a 14 year old let alone a 7 year old!

  • I like the Telltale suggestion above - Back to the Future in particluar would be a very good choice.

    Also I'd be thinking:

    Skylanders
    Rayman Origins
    Top Spin 4
    Blur
    Portal 2

Some of those may be a little hard/advanced though.

  • My favourite games on Kinect that the kids also seem to love are Fruit Ninja and Sesame Street: Once Upon A Monster - it is great! A lot of variety in the things it makes you do, plus gets you moving around which is what I love about the Kinect in general, (that and the voice commands that let me be lazy and control the Xbox without having to get up and find the controller!).

The little ones also seem to absolutely love Double Fine Happy Action Theater, which is another game that's available for download from the Xbox Live Arcade. It's a basically collection of short mini-games that use the Kinect camera to put players into augmented reality scenes. So many times we have put it on at a party and the kids are just mesmerised by it! It plays continuously, so they just play it for ages. I haven't been able to convince my other half to spare the MS points to get Kinect Party yet, but I am working on it and I assume it is just as good as Happy Action Theater.

    • seconded for Once Upon A Monster, never too old (but can be too pretentious) to enjoy Sesame Street.

  • My 7 year old loves Banjo Kazooie and the Lego games.

Of course many of the games listed above you can download free working demos from xbox live (including the logo games) that work just like the full game but maybe only have the first level or 2. Some of the demos have kept my kids busy for hours

  • Maybe Dance Central and there is a large catalogue of music to download so you will be able to find her Fav songs and dance to them. I second any of the Lego games would be fun.

In the arcade there is lots of games like Sonic an updated version of the old platform game from the early 90's.

Also there are games like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed which would be fun.

    Anything under Xbox family games

Forget the Wii, there are lots of games suitable for her on the xbox the only problem is they are not advertised as much as the big shooter games.

  • Thank-you for all the replies!! :)
Have had a busy few weeks with uni exams but hopefully can pick up some of these on sale this weekend :)
And thanks for the suggestions on xbox live - haven't had much of a look yet.

  • Alan wake, its a very story heavy game.

    • +1

I'm not sure Alan Wake is appropriate for 7 year old girls.

      • Haha, clearly did not read the entire thing. My bad.

  • Banjo Kazooie 1 and 2 on XBLA are great, as is nuts and bolts (it's like banjo kazooie + lego) and you can find it for cheap. Also I think psychonauts is available on xbla too.
