FYI HGST = Hitachi Global Storage Technologies
WD merged with Hitachi HD division in 2012.
This is a Hitachi, not a WD disk (not that it means anything)
It is also noted that „No additional hardware is required to overcome the 2.2 TB limitations of Windows® systems with 4 TB and 3 TB kits as they ship with HGST GPT Disk Manager” although I do not know what it means, as Windows supports larger disks via GPT (as opposed to MBR) if the motherboard BIOS can accommodate it.
Price is pretty good (UMART $155.00 on Special)

    • Oh, so is this why Hitachi Desktar stop becoming Deathstars because WD came in? Wasn't sure if Hitachi did improved because years ago I was told be people to avoid Hitachi. Now im using one…

    • My Hitachi died after 1yr.

      • Same. I had a Hitachi coolspin in my Microserver stop working after 1 year and they replaced it with a generic 7200rpm refurbished drive. But at least I didn't have to send it overseas. Was told by tech support that you get whatever is available in stock for Hitachi RMA. I am guessing coolspin was unavailable.

  • Just bought 2TB barracuda for $99 yesterday! :(

  • do you guys think they are more reliable than wd & seagate?

  • -1

    3 years rtb warranty - awesome :)
shame you can only buy 3! I wanted 4 :(

    EDIT
IT Estate - reviews are mixed on whirlpool etc. This has stopped me from getting these drives :(
Just gonna spend the extra few dollars on my local ARC, as I trust them wholeheartedly
Thanks for the post anyway OP

    • havent had a bad experience with them

eg. a drive died, returned it, they called me up to pick up the replacement a week later

cant ask for more than that

  • +1

Price is now $179!!! Didn't even last a day!!

what a crock, should have said limited stock instead of one day only.

  • +1

    sold out already.
I was in the process of paying but their website does not support chrome.
    WTF

  • They had about 40 units sold in the morning and now says 70 sold and sold out. So had like only 30 units in stock it seems.

  • anyway, kind of in a good way, cos I am actually waiting for 4Tb…

  • +1

yea I was in the middle of paying for it at 11am until it crapped out. Now its out of stock. Waste of time.

  • I have no problem with IT Estate with pick up.

I have still have a question can I use 3TB as a boot drive for older S/775 motherboard with Windows 7?

    • I have one and there is no problem. Doesn't get a great rating in the windows experience though.

  • Warning to other shoppers for IT estate!!!

cant believe i put a order though and it give me a confirmation on the screen and got the email and also a receipt, but i had a guy call me up letting me know they have none in stock and cant provide me with the drives, even though they will have new stock in next week !!!!

This is an out rage, i mean i understand if when i am ordering there is a message showing none available, but to first give me a confirmation and then cancel the order on me via phone is not acceptable!.

I mean imagine i order something online only to cancel at the last minute, i am sure they would have taken my money and deny me with a cancellation fee!!. I had good service before from IT-estate, but this goes in my bad book !!!

i will have to check with ACC watchdog about having something like this acceptable behavior for a retailer, especially when they company in question will have stock in one week!!!

    • Let us know how your investigation with ACCC worked.

    • mate
exactly the same happen to me with http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/

took me more than one month to get my money back every phone call lair to me.
already send ….out of stock then wait for the new stock….
call ACC unforgettably don't have time to follow all the rubbish and give up
