7/11 Fuel Lock Capped at 25c Per Litre

We heard it was coming - just received this email.

We’ve changed the way Fuel Price Lock works by introducing a maximum saving of 25 cents per litre (see section 16).
If the difference between the pump price and the price locked in by Fuel Lock exceeds the 25 cents per litre maximum discount, the price will automatically adjust so that you receive the maximum 25 cents per litre saving.
You will still pay the lower pump price if the price at the pump is lower than your Fuel Lock price.

  • Booooo!!! 😡😡😡

  • Oh bugger, this was a great saving to me - I normally got .40c saving per litre in BNE on a regular basis.

    • +1

      .40c < 1.00c

      • .40c is different from 40c

  • Rip Android users anyway who can't spoof

    • +2

works for me via Android Studio

      • Thanks for the tip because the mock location apps dont works

but Looks rather complicated to use.

Is there an quick and easy way to spoof location on an android phone?

        • Aren't you supposed to know, hewhoknows?

  • +1

Bugger. Just saved $62 off a tank today!

  • -2

If i got no email does it mean im off the hook :p

    • You just didnt check you emails or address is wrong in the app or its caught up in Spam/junk mail

  • +1

I think the change has been implemented to avoid honouring accidental price errors

    • +7

      Also to increase profit generally

    • +1

Sydney cbd regularly has the price 60c more than suburbs 20 minutes apart!!!
      profits profits profits

      • Sydney cbd regularly has the price 60c more than suburbs 20 minutes apart!!!
        profits profits profits

Hope you are kidding. The 60 cents per litre averages out the price difference.

  • +3

    This is disappointing.

Time to ensure we check Petrol Spy BEFORE getting to 711 to ensure the price isn't too much lower now.

    • yes claiming the missed discount is a huge pain in the arse

    • +1

Is Petrol Spy data different from the nsw fuelwatch app?

  • Damn it was a good run while it lasted.

  • +1

    T’was a good run.

  • I never got into this because the coffee is better at Coles Express, but… why don't 7/11 just shoot down your choppers at the state borders instead?

    • +1

      They are doing that already
All those complaining about A01 errors !!!!!

Now must select cheapest price in your (local time zone) state.

      • that also doesn't work

        • I think it depends on iPhone model/iOS and Virtual location program being used.

No longer works on my iPhone 7 running iOS 15.8 but still works on my iPhone SE3 running iOS 16.4

  • They're definitely going to lose some paying customers here.

    • +1

I hope all OBers are "paying" customers.

But also all the lost highly profitable shop sales too which they havent factored in.

    • I don't think they want those customers anyway.

  • +2

Damn, I saved 50 cents a litre today (legitimately) but had to come back to this post to check when they are changing the conditions.
Then I realised the anxiety I'm going to have in future by filling up and then getting a different price to what was locked on my app

    • -5

If the discount on the day exceeds 25c you will pay the display bowser price my friend.

Then you need to go through the process of claiming the "missed fuel discount" of 25c through the app.
Then, if and when approved, waiting for your gift card to arrive in the mail.

Its going to get very complicated….even for 7/11 given the way they will be processing all the claims

      • +3

        What are you talking about?

If the difference between the pump price and the price locked in by Fuel Lock exceeds the 25 cents per litre maximum discount, the price will automatically adjust so that you receive the maximum 25 cents per litre saving.
You will still pay the lower pump price if the price at the pump is lower than your Fuel Lock price

You don't pay the bowser price if your fuel lock is >25c/l cheaper, you pay 25c less than the bowser price. You only pay the bowser price when it's cheaper than your fuel lock.

        • +1

I think he misread the information.

It’s for fuel locks ‘locked’ equal to or prior to 5/2 and then claimed on or after 6/2 while still locked, will be 25c max, with the additional savings requiring a claim.
Edit - With everything locked after 6/2 just maxing at 25c.

Correct me if I’m wrong though :)

        • +1

Seems to be some confusion here.

          Firstly the email says:
We’ve changed the way Fuel Price Lock works by introducing a maximum saving of 25 cents per litre (see section 16).
          • If the difference between the pump price and the price locked in by Fuel Lock exceeds the 25 cents per litre maximum discount, the price will automatically adjust so that you receive the maximum 25 cents per litre saving.

          Then it says IN BOLD:

We will honour all Fuel Locks locked in prior to 6th February 2024 to the full extent of the saving. However, if you redeem that Fuel Lock after 12:01 am on 6th of February 2024 and the saving exceeds the new maximum saving of 25 cents per litre, for technical reasons the saving that exceeds 25 cents per litre will not be processed at the time of your purchase. We will honour the additional saving by reimbursing you the amount in accordance with section 16.25, if you fill out the missed fuel discount form under the contact us tab of the My 7-Eleven app.

So the latter (IN BOLD) only applies for price locks made before 6 February.

I think Zuelly (above) covered it off nicely

I will ensure any (current) fuel price lock is used before the cut-off date to maximise the discount (as will most people)

I used to make explicit detours to cheap 7/11's to fuel up + lock in the good price. For 25c/L I won't be going out of my way like that anymore, probably just visit whoever is cheapest along my route, and if I happen to see a 25c fuel lock on my drive I'll press the button - but I'll no longer be explicitly be seeking out 7/11's

  • +3

I'm getting 'A01 errors' when attempting to lock within my state (VIC), and its only 5kms from my actual location. What do I need to check/update?

    • My device has been permabanned I think. Even new email addresses won't let me sign into the app.

      • I can still sign in but not able to lock from multiple devices (Iphone & Ipad)

    • +1

      getting the same thing

    • +1

Getting the same error on two iOS devices

    • same

      A01 isn't a ban error, its a more than 1 lock in 24hrs error

      ??

    • What iOS are you running?
For me iOS15.8 on my iphone 7 no longer works but iOS16.4 on my iPhone SE3 does.

  • +1

I locked in 1.61 the other day and needed fuel today, went to a 711 and the fuel for E10 was 2.15!!!

FuelNSW app showed cheap prices around 1.65 but I just couldn't be bothered driving there and these times where 7/11 does save me money and time, it's just a good process to have.

The rep was nice enough to tell me it's capped at 25c soon and I sadly said, yeah it sucks…….

    BOO 711

  • Any news on what they changed with the new app version? Probably even harder to lock a price now.

    • -1

you still can lock a lowest price

      • +1

What are the steps man. I'm a01

        • A01 gang here

  • is everyone getting A01 errors now when they try to lock fuel

    • yep. i can't find a way to circumvent despite following suggestions in thread even within same state.

      • ditto, tried same state, same timezone, etc all no workies

I tried it on my android phone which has not had its location fudged ever with an account(s) I usually fudge and it worked fine, no errors

  • +1

Cashed in my last big fuel discount today (Monday 5 Feb)
Pump price was $2.16 and price lock was $1.72

    Hence saved 44c/L

Unfortunately from tomorrow this will be capped at 25c/L

So use your price locks today folks!
And lock in a new price from (tomorrow) Tuesday 6 Feb so you dont have any issues with price lock not working

  • Anyone still able to use the chopper to lock location?

    • Came here for this, seems it may be patched… Edit: nvm, updated the app iAnyGo and it worked.

edit 2: managed to lock one in, but back to errors again lol

      • iAnyGo, is that free to use and lock?

        • There is a trial, and an unlimited trial workaround, so essentially yes with a bit of work.

  • This is bit confusing. So if I locked in today at 1.72, and the new 7-11 I visit is 2.16. I got pay 1.91 instead of 1.72 at the pump instead when they scan the app on my fone?

    • +3

Yes that's right. From now, 25c/L is the maximum discount you will receive even though your locked price might be greater than this.

    • +2

that is why 711 is no longer the best,

its best now to monitor the fuel cycle and fill at lowest cycle manually

      • Actually lock in lowest price at bottom of fuel cycle, then fillup.

        OR

Just do a price lock seach just before you fill up.
        You still save 25c/L

    • +1

      How is this confusing?
here is the maths for you……
      $2.16 - 0.25 = $1.91

  • +1

Will be finding other ways now to fill up at a cheaper price. Currently I have a little offer from bp in Qantas which I am going to use over the 711. I managed to do a 711 price lock but initially getting a lot of errors. Pretty sad, but it might still be worth it when nothing else is around

  • Thanks to those who abused a good system, its gone now

    • +1

      Not really
If you locked in the bottom of the cycle as many did and price then went up 50c the next week, how is that abusing the system?
New owner of 7/11 Australia is just cutting thier losses through the price locks made during the lows of price cycle.

    • So you never used a chopper to lock in the lowest price?

  • Anyone managed to get their interstate chopper up and running after the update?

    • Yep. NordVPN to France during lock.

  • game finished. is all A01 now. doesn't matter wheter intra state or inter state

    • Even with VPN?

    • Interstate just worked for me. Try on 4G or Hotspot, not local wifi.

      • Hotspot from another phone?

        • Yeah, still need to test it more. But hotspot from another phone worked.

  • interstate with VPN doesn't work anymore. getting the A01 error. local state works.

    • You are right

      Wait for a solution

      • Any solution?

  • Been watching prices for a few weeks now. 7-11 Sydney seems stuck on 231.0 with no weekly cycles? Other brands dip to 199 or 189. Think this is the end.

    • Yep 💯. Of all the petrol stations that are nearest me, there are currently five that are more than 25c/L cheaper than the two closest 7-Elevens.

  • After using the 7eleven app for over 2 years, i used BP to fill up since it was 183.9 while every 7eleven station had 230.9!

  • +3

    Hi everyone

it seems to be purely focusing on your current location and matching it with your wifi data and if it mis matches, error A01

Hotspot from another mobile works fine only if in Home state (seems to track location of previous use and assign home state for each acc accordingly)

Tried - different state with VPN, chopper , mobile hotspot and NSW used acc but still did not work.

Make sure Bluetooth is disconnected from all other devices

  • Hi Everyone, need help with fuel locking.
I used to lock same state lowest fuel on Virtual android, but its not working anymore since last 2 days. I cant even lock local fuel. Getting A01 error even though i havent locked anything for past 4 days. Tried on mobile data, wifi, turning Bluetooth off etc and still not working
    Anyone else facing this issue??

    • -1

No problem on iPhone running latest iOS using a good fake location program.

May have been a result of security issues being fixed in an android update.

      • -4

HeWhoKnows, please, can you share which one fake location program do you use? Can you DM me, please
