Router for My NBN FTTC Home Internet

Hello,

I am looking for a suitable router for my NBN home internet. Please see the information below and provide some recommendations. Thank you.

  1. I was with Telstra NBN previously and everything worked fine. I had full coverage around the house through their router.
  2. Then I moved to TPG NBN and when I received their router, I realized that it wasn't that strong in terms of coverage. So I bought a NOVA MESH SYSTEM with it and it has been working fine since then.
  3. Recently TPG sent their new router (the old one was white and this one is black in colour) and I set that up and working fine. I am still using NOVA MESH SYSTEM. I currently have 50Mbps NBN line.
  4. I prefer to have only one router which is strong enough for my entire home. My home area is not very big (around 450 metre square) and Telstra router was providing full coverage. But I don't want to go back to Telstra NBN since it is very expensive.
  5. I thought of moving to other NBN providers but I still have to buy their router for a price and I suspect it won't be strong enough and I still have to use the NOVA MESH SYSTEM.

Hence I am looking for some help in buying a router which I can use with any internet provider and it will provide strong coverage throughout my entire home. And I don't want to use any MESH SYSTEM. Budget is not an issue but I prefer not to spend a lot.

Thank you.

  • Hence I am looking for some help in buying a modem/modem router which I can use with any internet provider

What type of nbn do you have? fttp?

    • FTTC. Thank you.

      • nbn NCD box used for FTTC is a VDSL2 modem. All you need to purchase is a router and not a modem/router all-in-one. How much do you want to spend?

        • No issues with the budget. I can spend more if required. Thank you.

No you don't, you just change the settings…

Do you still have your telstra modem? You should be able to use it with tpg nbn.

    • I will try. Thank you.

  • Telstra modem should work for most if not all NBN providers

    • I will try. Thank you.

  • TPG with FTTC from memory uses VLAN Tagging… Why people go with TPG, I'll never know… but anyways Telstra modem won't work with them as a result unless you root the modem.

Get a mesh system in Access point mode with the TPG issued modem/router.

  • The Telstra modem will work fine with other providers as others have said. Only issue is if you have a Voip Voice over Ip phone service configured on the TPG connection as that will be locked to TPG. So you would need to port the phone number first before changing NBN providers. But if your just using a mobile phone then you don't need to worry about that. You need a mobile in the event of a power outage anyway.
