Yes, you can buy gift cards online even though Amex T&Cs states gift cards are excluded. Amex won't know exactly what you have purchased at Dan's.
Yes, you can use the online GC at Woolworths, Big W, and BWS (why would you as Dans is cheaper)

Someone will still NOT read this comment and post the following question.
But wait, the terms and conditions strictly state Gift cards are not eligible, are you sure?
Amex won't know exactly what you have purchased at Dan's. Yes, you can buy gift cards online even though Amex T&Cs states gift cards are excluded.
We've seen it before countless times: Harvey Norman, Myers, First choice, and previous Dan Murphy's Amex offers.

Can anyone confirm gift cards work ok? They did last time.

    • Yes, no issues with 10 cards.

      • 10 ?

        • @Fusakin:
Can we get the Supp card for kids, or do they have to be above 18 yrs old ?

        • @AG1304x: Supplementary Credit Card Members must be over 18 years of age.

    • Yes mine worked.

    • Mine just worked. Cheers.

  • Can you get Cash Rewards on gift cards? It says 6% on non-alcoholic products.

    • No,no cashback for giftcard purchase. No cashback on PricePal,either.Tried last time.

      • +1

But if you use the gift cards to later buy grog online from Dan's, I assume that THEN you will get cash back.

  • Can anyone confirm whether Woolworths self-serve has been updated to stop the purchase of a Gift Card with a Gift Card? I know there was lots of comments about Coles stopping this but Woolies apparently was still an option the last time I did it a couple of months ago.

    • +3

I used an eGift Card to make a Supercheap Auto Gift Card purchase last week at self-checkout.

      • Cheers

      • Once you scanned the Supercheap Auto Gift card at self-checkout, does it require a WOW attendance scan his/her staff card to verify the transaction before you use the eGift to make payment?

        • +1

No staff intervention required. I've done this at two different stores.

        • @Fusakin: Thanks for the prompt response Fusakin.

    • +2

I don't know what you read about Coles but I bought $450 Bunnings gift cards with $450 Coles Myers card from the local Coles last week.

      • +1

You just cant by coles group gift cards with coles group or coles gift cards. 3rd party gift cards seem to work fine.

        • +1

You just cant by coles group gift cards with coles group or coles gift cards

Works for me at North Sydney.

        • @roughana: Will change when the store receives a POS upgrade so make the most of it!

      • Can you buy a Westfield or Visa gift card?

        • +1

You can at Coles. Bear in mind there's a $5.95 activation fee.

        • @mmd:

Thanks, at shelf-checkout or staff checkout?

        • @divious:
          I've never tried self checkout.
I usually get my Bunnings gift cards at the cigarette counter/ or along with my weekly shop.
Are you happy with the $5.95 fee?

        • @mmd:

yes, it is not a problem at all as I bought some gift cards in the last Amex-1st Liquid choice deal

        • @mmd: I got the westfield giftcard during the last amex promo and could use it at a coles outside westfield.

        • @divious:
          Fair enough.
I'm fairly confident I can shop enough at Coles/Kmart/target/first choice/myers/Bunnings to use all my gift cards.
However if they are going to expire I will convert over to visa/Westfield. The only thing stopping me was the $5.95 activation fee.

        • @iSamurai:
Yes I was able to use the Westfield Red gift card at numerous non Westfield places.

Dubious wants to know if you buy other gift cards at Coles and Woolworths

      • Good to know - I'm looking to get some discount Bunnings GCs eventually. If I have to go through a few other cards first that's no big issue.

    • I did it at checkout just before Christmas, purchased a ww gift card, the only question be asked was "for the whole amount?"

  • +12

One thing I hate about Danny Murphys is that they automatically store your credit card details without giving you a choice. 90%+ of the worlds compromised card details are out there because of e-commerce sites and their stored card details (or stored via their associated payment processor). If you don't like this either just go to "My Account" and delete the cards.

    • +1

They never store my cards, using 10 Amex cards and no problems.

      • From my last experience with Dan Murphy's payment system, I had the same experience as carleast. Check in "My Account" and see if your 10 cards appear there.

        • +2

Ah now I know why they have never stored my card as I always do the guest checkout and I have no an account with them.

        • @divious: They probably store your cards, just aren't showing you as guest.

    • +1

Yes that's annoying, I usually go to my account straight from order page and delete my stored credit card details.

  • "Gift cards are sent from a different supplier and cannot be collected in-store."
$5.50 delivery by registered mail really eats into the $10 cash back.

    • +3

Then just buy the eGift cards like most of us? Is there a reason you can't/don't want to?

    • +9

Just buy e-gift cards and load them into the Woolworths Money app

      Simple

My orders from this morning are already delivered and loaded in the app

      • So the Dan Murphy egift cards also work at Woolies and bigw right?

        • +1

          Yes

      • When I tried to load the cards into the app it says the number is invalid.

        • Then you're tying the wrong number, or entering it wrong..

      • I just d/l the woolworths money app but it doesn't seem to allow entering more than 1 gift card? is that right?

        • +1

          nope
just keep hitting the + symbol and you can add multiple cards

    • I was going to use it for groceries etc. and I thought maybe eGift cards were only for online purchases.

Does it come as a barcode or something for in-store use? Or is the Woolies Money app the only way to do it if I want to spend it somewhere other than Dan's?

      • +6

You just punch in the gift card code and the PIN at the register or self checkout. App not required, it just makes it a lot easier to manage.

        • Into eftpost terminal or the touch machine ? What if its more then 50 can you use multiple or use cc / e gift card ?

      • +1

In store you need to select Egift as payment option and then key in the Instore Egift number and PIN.

  • Does this apply to bank issued American Express cards?
