Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ Plus 5G 512GB Frost Blue $682 Delivered @ BecexTech via Kogan

81

On the page, it says the processor is MediaTek Dimensity 9200 Ultra Processor. But elsewhere when I look up this phone, it says it is powered by Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. Could that be Kogan is lying? Or maybe there are two types?

edit
I have reached out to BecexTech and asked them to clarify. They have since replied and said the phone is indeed using Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, not the Dimensity 9200 as advertised earlier.

  • Theres two types sometimes

  • I have one too. Want to sell it cause wants upgrade

  • -1

    This is a better deal Aliexpress $465.99 512GB w/ 16GB Ram

    • yeah the one you linked is Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. i wondered if the kogan one is also Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 but lied about it.

    • Chinese version?

      • +1

Yes, the Chinese version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G can be upgraded to the international version, but it's not a simple process. It involves flashing a different ROM, which can be risky if not done correctly. The global ROM offers features like Google services and support for more languages, while the Chinese ROM is optimized for the Chinese market.
        Elaboration:

        ROM Differences:
The Chinese version of the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G comes with a ROM tailored for the Chinese market, lacking full Google support and potentially other regional features.

        Flashing a Global ROM:
To switch to the global version, you need to flash a global ROM onto the device. This process involves downloading the correct global ROM file, unlocking the bootloader (which may void the warranty), and using a flashing tool to install the new ROM.
        Potential Risks:
Flashing a ROM can be risky. If not done correctly, it can brick the phone (make it unusable).
        Other Considerations:
The global ROM typically provides better support for Google services, more language options, and potentially different update schedules. However, the Chinese ROM may have some features or optimizations specific to the Chinese market.

This is unfair downvote, Aliexpress vs local, even if it's Kogan.

Looks like it's chinese ROM, which does not support android auto and delayed background notification.

  • Do xiaomi phones get imei blocked?

    • +1

My Poco which came from Xiaomi UK store and wife's Redmi from UK Amazon were both blocked originally when the blocks started. Not sure if they got subsequently unblocked though as we changed phones.

      • My poco x3 pro working great on boost still blazing fast and great battery…

    • +2

They're fine now. Wife is using a Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G no issues at all.

    • Not sure why you are down voted. Redmi note 9 and 10 pro both blocked in Oz.

I think the newest ones might be OK but not sure. Apparently buying in an Oz brick and mortar store guarantees It will work

      • +1

10 pro still working on Vodaphone

        • +1

Thanks for commenting. I checked periodically and gave up because it wasn't working.

Just checked both note 9 pro and note 10 pro works on Vodafone and might work on telstra (showed no bars but the sim has expired so will test with a new one).

          What a botched roll out…

          • +1

@Chocobros: found on my mi 11i and f3 the sims only work on Vodafone,

if you put in a optus or telstra network sim in the second slot even then it's blocked, including your Vodafone sim.

So like basically you can only use vodafone network sim or dual vodafome network.

            • +1

@AeymothSky: Yeah I just used the telstra checker and both imei are blocked so it's Vodafone only as you say (I haven't tested optus) .

Absolute mess and crazy that one network allows the phones and others block it.

Guess I can be a kogan mobile user on those phones if I need to use em 🙄

              • +1

@Chocobros: yeah, kogan definitely works on em still.

I've recently got some new moto phones so my old xiaomis are kinda retired, battery life on both of them are abysmal now but it was a good run.

The cameras on those are still sorta impressive though and beat my moto phones.

I definitely miss some features in the MIUI/HyperOS roms, and was looking at potentially buying the Poco F7 but in the end at the moment decide it is not worth it.

F7 screen is too large for me and camera disappointing, plus although I like some hyperos stuff it seems their software in other parts end up causing it to drain battery a lot.

                • @AeymothSky: The redmi note 13 pro is pretty decent. I get good battery (over 1 day with moderate use) but it's still less than 12 months old.

For some reason my redmi note 9 had a beast of a battery and it still works well now despite being so old.

How are the new moto phones? Would you recommend over xiaomi?

                  • +1

@Chocobros: The moto phones are definitely pretty good value wise and the battery life has amazed me.

The models I personally use are the G54/G75(now my main)

but I have noticed some quirks and things I like to complain about but overall it's quite good.

Honestly for general use the benefits of the battery life outweigh these xiaomi phones for me.
I would suggest you pay attention to the size of the phone though. This G75 is way too big for me personally. And I notice some slowdowns possibly due to the slower storage? (it being like UFS 2 something compared to my older xiaomi devices that use UFS 3+.

  • My last Poco X3 NFC was deems unacceptable during the 3g turn off. I won't buy Xiaomi again

    • Serious? I still have that in my backup drawer…

Many were blocked then unblocked later.

    • +1

@frewer This has NOTHING to do with a phone manufacturer such as Xiaomi that are a technology company, who believe it or not make stuff that just gets old like any other thing any other company makes, that stops getting supported after a few years. We all have to deal with this with ANY brand of phone. It was Australian network owner's who chose the NETWORKS they would support in the future. My Poco X3 Pro works fine now as another commenter has already pointed out many phones were unblocked, it's working blazing fast still and battery great on Boost. I got Boost with cashback and on discount works out to $17 pm with 25GB monthly allowance perfect for my daughter.

Looks like you can buy this model but different colours direct from the company selling via Kogan. Becextech has other colours as low as $611

    • oh thanks. following your link, I actually decided to send them an email asking them to clarify which chipset the phone has. not sure if they would reply or not lol.

  • Xiaomi shows ads on its built-in apps.

The only app I've ever seen them on is the themes app. Really not bothered by them at all
