HELP A MATE : Victoria Bush Fire Victims

Hi Guys,

I have been busy this morning contacting and sending emails to our corporations to do all they can to help the people of the Bush Fire ravaged regions of Victoria.

So, there seems to be a fair amount of donating going on but I thought it would be good to maximize donations with a dollar-for-dollar donations, I've put it to some of our top corporations and yet to hear from them.

I do know Wesfarmers (Coles Supermarkets) will donate all profits from trading at their 750 store this Friday 13th February.

So please think about doing this if you are grocery shopping this week or next to do it this Friday at anyone of the 750 Coles Supermarkets nationwide.

Please feel free to add to this thread with any other Corporate citizen willing to join with the broader community to support these devastated people.

Sincerely
Nat

Before I start, I know I speak for all staff & members here at OzBargain when I send my deepest thoughts & prayers to any members affected by either the Victorian Bush Fire crisis and/or the Queensland floods.

The Nine Network is running a national telethon 'Australia Unites' - Thursday night from 8:30pm - 10:30pm.

  • Cheers JeffreyM,

I didn't forget about the flood victims in QLD, but just like many people including Victoria Police there are good grounds for a criminal prosecution for the horrific bush fires in VIC. The victims of the Victorian Bush Fires were helpless and lambs to the slaughter, again taking nothing away from the folk in QLD who are battling floods, please give generously.

  • Although I don't have a dollar-for-dollar pledge (maybe sign of the times), many of the corporations have made a donation plus step-up fundraising efforts including this sincere one from the commbank.

AMP will match staff donations to 250k, one would think this would be achieved no sweat, might see one soon keep ya posted, or of course you may know one already going around. Sharing is definitely caring here…

Hi Nat, thanks for your feedback.

The Commonwealth Bank was one of the first institutions to announce a $1 million donation to the Victorian Premier’s Bushfire appeal. In addition, the Bank has announced a special fundraising initiative today which will see the bank donate $100 for every run scored at the One Day Cricket International between Australian and NZ in Adelaide, in addition to $5000 per six hit today. We have also activated special emergency packages for our customers impacted by the fires in Victoria.

We will continue to support the people impacted by this tragedy.

    With kind regards

    Steve

  • I've heard that EDS Australia http://www.eds.com/about/locations/australia/ (now owned by HP) have advised their staff that they've put in place arrangements to enable employees to salary-sacrifice donations to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal and have pledged to match donations dollar-for-dollar, up to a value of $250,000 AUD.

Also, the Finance Sector Union (FSU) has advised members that the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is donating $250,000 to the Relief Fund, and the FSU National Executive is expected to endorse a $20,000 donation when it meets this week.

Also, also, "Food retailers unite to raise dough for bushfire victims on Valentine's Day.
A portion of the Valentine's Day sales of more than 1,000 Donut King, Brumby's Bakery, Michel's Patisserie and bb's cafe outlets across Australia will be donated to the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
The four retail brands which are owned by Retail Food Group (RFG) hope to raise more than $100,000 for the appeal, including a donation from RFG itself.
This week, Retail Food Group held its annual conference on the Gold Coast where suppliers also auctioned off goods to raise money for the appeal."
