What is the best Camera Smartphone For Around $350? - Larger than 4" Screen

Hi guys, just like to know what you think is the best smartphone out there for around $350

I'm looking for a smartphone that is

  • Larger than 4" Screen (very important)
  • Good Camera (8mp or 13mp preferred with decent performance)
  • Solid specs all round

I've come upon the Galaxy S3 and the Sony Xperia T.
Which one do you think is the more superior model? or rather, one you would suggest is king?

Cheers, looking forward to hearing all your responses!

    Nexus 4

    • I'd wait till the Nexus 4 supported 4g before jumping in.

4g is the coverage of the future. It's good to get a phone that has compatibility now so you're prepared.

      • And by the time 4G becomes, standard… The phone you bought now with 4G would have subpar performance. Give or take - buy the phone that will drive you daily.

I too, like Zelda707 like Sonys design&UI, yet there are plenty of other users here (eg. Paintoad) who despise it. Just buy the phone that suits your needs. The differences here shouldn't sway your decision to buy one over the other. It is those key differences between these two phones such as CPU/GPU/Screen/TF slot that should

Although, I'd personally recommend SIII 4G (Kind of contradicted myself but whatever) as the 2Gb ram provides more future proof in terms of performance etc.

      • Depends if you're on a plan with 4G, if you live or frequently visit 4G areas, how long you plan to keep your phone.

      • Not really, 4G LTE-Advanced in the 700MHz band is the network of the future.
The current faux-4G that we currently have is really just a placeholder until that 700MHz spectrum comes available following Analogue TV shutdown.

Currently 4G sucks battery and coverage is restricted to the CBD. It's not something that will be truly missed.

  • I prefer the Xperia T because i'm a Sony fan and i don't really like the S3 :)

The S3 has a large advantage over the Xperia because of the quad core processor

    • Thanks for the reply! Ive taken alot of notice with the Xperia T.
Do you know much on the camera performance as well as cpu?
Im abit dissapointed it only comes with 1gb ram

      • apparently the camera isn't the best but it's still ok. The cpu is definitely fast enough for everyday use but if you plan on doing a lot of gaming, get the S3.

I really the design of the all the sony phones, i have a cheapie Sola and it attracts a bit of attention. Sony phones definitely stand out from all the iPhones and samsungs :)

      • Nexus 4 has 2Gb RAM, Faster CPU than the S3 and software updates.
Is storage (only ~6Gb of usable space) the key point turning you away?

        • Would you know the camera performance?
I am impressed by the specs, its on par with the Galaxy s3!

        • sorry guys, seemed to have double posted. nvm this comment

        • From what I read before the S3 camera is a touch better.

Though Nexus 4 software and updates are controlled by Google and it's very likely a major android update(Key Lime Pie) is going to be announced in 4 weeks time.

  • Nexus 4

  • What about BLU Life View? Life One? Life Play?

I think they all come out on Amazon later this month at the end of May starting from $229 (up to $299?) unlocked, stock Android 4.2

I know nothing about network bands so… And everything online about the launch is just copy paste of the company's press release.

EDIT: FB page says Life View released at end of May(reply to query).

  • The Xperia T looks really nice, but with less RAM, a less powerful CPU, and a worse (TFT) screen than the Nexus 4, unless you need the FM Radio and microSD expansion, the Nexus 4 is the better deal.

If you do need FM and microSD (of which I understand, I need both, that's why I recently bought an Xperia Z) then the SGS3 is a good deal at a great price at the moment.

Xperia T would be a worthy consideration under $300 but its still just a bit too pricey at the moment.
