  • would this be the cheapest blu ray player?

    • -1

      No, but the best is my ps3 12gb skylanders bundle I bought the other day. WOO! (still in the box)

  • http://www.lg.com/au/dvd-blu-ray-players/lg-BP120

    List price $109 RRP and the entry level blu-ray player in the LG range.

  • Does this play the normal DVD disc?

    • +2

      It should because most Blu-Ray player can play DVD and some even region free.

  • Can this be made region free for dvd?

  • I dont believe it can be made region free DVD

    • +1

      Which makes it not worth it for most ozbargainers considering the price of sticking to the Australian region.

      • What do you mean? I buy most of my Blu-Ray movies from Amazon UK and other UK websites because we share the same Blu-Ray region as the UK. I don't even bother with US Discs in case a cheap Brand Name Blu-Ray player for $49 that is region locked goes up for sale. ;)

        • +1

          The question is about normal DVDs, not Blu Rays. Australia is Region 4, which is different to the UK and US regions. Hence you would need a region free DVD player for those. Personally, only about 50% of my DVD collection is region 4.

        • Who buys DVDs these days anyway?

        • +1

          who buys discs at all?

        • Exactly.

        • -1

          I do!

          Mainly because I find the quality superior to online rips.

          In addition, the internet is extremely expensive on residents making downloading equivalent to buying a physical copy.

          Having said all that, I only buy good reviewed indie films.

        • -1

          That doesn't really make sense except in a few circumstances.

          TPG has unlimited broadband for cheap.

          I have Telstra 100mbit Cable with a 500GB cap, more then enough.

          I download most my movies in 1080p, takes less then 30 minutes to finish.

          If I really wanted I could get the original bluray copy, only problem is at 50GB it will take 2-3 hours.

          Most people can't even tell the difference between 720p and higher, its unlikely you are telling the difference between 1080p and a bluray copy.

        • +2

          Yes you can tell the difference if you have big screen like 60".

          Also Blu-ray comes with a lot better audio like TrueHD Master audio.

        • Again, you can download the original 50GB bluray, stop trolling superforever.

          I have a 60" TV myself and the problem is not a 1080p rip, the common issue is the 1080p resolution and poor video source, nothing that an original bluray will fix.

          The only solution is to wait for 4k TV's and blurays.

          I'm guessing you download those 2GB 1080p rips… a proper 1080p rip is 10-15GB.

        • My post above does make sense. :/

          It really depends on the equipment people have and what their visual perception is on quality.

          If you have a relatively inferior setup you may find it hard to notice the difference. However, if your setup and source material is to a decent standard then the difference in detail and quality are quite apparent. While it may not be earth shattering (depending on the source and how it was ripped) you can 99.9% of the time tell the difference.

          Having said all that, the majority of people (particularly to those who download ripped films) don't care about quality unless its below an acceptable standard. As long as the video looks smooth, sharp (HD-ish) then it's generally fine by them.

          Anyways I don't want to go off topic nor do I want to start a war so I'll just leave it at here. [^_^]

          ====================

          In regards to the deal, it's a decently priced entry level player.

        • -2

          Again..

          You can download the original bluray. 100% impossible to tell the difference.

          "HDish" is 720p or even below that. a real 10-15GB 1080p movie is very very good quality.

          Again, I don't want to hear a word from anyone about quality, because you can download the original disc.

          Just sharing some information.

          <Download route>
          DL BD ISO/Remux (around 20GB+) -> "Do you have a PC or Media player capable to bitstream HD audio?" -> Home Theater set -> TV

          A good media player cost more than $100 eg Popcorn Hour A-200, Dune HD, etc.

          <Legit route>
          Buy Blu-ray -> Blu-ray player -> Home Theater set -> TV

          Advantage BD ISO/Remux over 1080p/720p rip:
          - Full bitrate video/audio
          - Uncompressed Audio (if provided)
          - Interactive menu, Extras, Special Features.

          A true Blu-Ray disc:
          - All features above
          - A hard copy (good for collector)
          - Legit

          end of story.

          So for the millionth time, I'm saying you can download the full bluray discs.

          You guys are just trying to justify wasting your money on bluray discs.

        • If you are talking about full image 50GB download of course.

          I am talking about those 10-15GB rip, they are very good but you can still see the difference.

        • I think we shall also halt the discussions here regarding "downloading rips". Copyright infringement should not be encouraged nor should it be discussed on OzBargain. I'm all for downloading / purchasing licensed full HD content rather than the actual disc, however they are usually either (1) more expensive, or (2) from illegitimate source.

  • Any chance this is/can be made region free for Blu Ray?

    I have some US Blurays dics i have never been able to play

  • I wish somewhere near me had that Pioneer one in stock. 3d, region free DVD, sub $100, do want.

  • Grabbed the display model as it was the last one from my local. Because they couldn't find the box I got it for $25! What a deal, thanks OP.

    By the way, this Bluray player (like many recently produced models) has Cinavia copy protection built in. So using it to play rips is pretty much out of the question (it will detect the watermark in the audio and stop playback).

    Doesn't bother me as it will only be used for original discs. I have a Boxee and WDTV for everything else.

  • ive been looking for a decent blu ray player, what to get? i hear the panasonics are the ones to get.
