OzBargain Vs. World's Prices 2013

Hi All,

I was going through the great article below about how expensive it is in Australia.

http://www.macrobusiness.com.au/2013/04/the-great-aussie-rip…

It also gives link to Deutsche Bank price survey. I am wondering, where would Ozbargainers stand in this list?

  • OUCh we do live in the wrong part of the world

  • Good data. It's a shame the format isn't user friendly.

They would be better off ranking countries in descending price.

You know, ozbargainers are named as "professionals" so don't count as general public.

We live in a country with high cost of living. If you can save money in Australia, your laughing. Earn more, but save money on the small things. That's why everyone's so positive on OzBargains ;)

  • They left off an obvious one which has a large impact on all household disposable income and thus standard of living (and one which nobody has any real control over), the cost of energy, either electricity or gas. The average cost per kwh in Aus is about 35c at peak, the average cost per kwh in the USA is a whopping 12c.

Hey guys - sure it's expensive, but do not forget we have enjoy an amazing quality of life here in Australia.

The type of lifestyle the average person can afford here is extremely high by world standards. Go be an average person on the average wage in the US and see how many 'tech gadgets' you'll be buying on your ~$35-40k a year… (or holidays, or anything other than the absolute basics for that matter!).

JJJ just said this morning that the average Australia wage is now $70k a year!

I prefer to live in a country where the warehouse guy who packs my order earns a decent wage (so he doesn't come and rob my house, he can buy his own stuff!). Makes for a much happier society.

Give me Australia any day! (just came back from NYC, a friend was mugged, we were scammed $200 trying to buy NBA tickets… obviously not the best sample data but yeah, life can be VERY tough in NYC unless you have family wealth).
