I don't see the deal in this.

We still don't know whether the debit card function will be free or not. No fees have been revealed yet.

    • i called Qantas and the staff said it's free if you're current Qantas Frequent Flyer Card Holders… its a new QFF Card with money load up function and will send it out for current Frequent Flyer Card Holders

The card is free, but what fee's are attached?

I do like the "New for Bronze members - the card is Q chip enabled", it's just a pity Jetstar don't use the system too.

there will most likely fees to load money onto the card like other travel money cards (eg 1% per reload)

not sure is it a deal or not.. but its the First Debit Mastercard that can earn Qantas Point, instead of those normal Credit Cards

      • +1

only for "eligible purchases" whatever they are

          Buying Qantas flights?

And what are currency conversion rates like? Other cards (28 degrees, Citibank plus) may do a better job.

i registered for this - in the hope that i can use this card to pay for my flights and avoid the $954 per person per flight credit card surcharge…

" …. the $954 per person per flight credit card surcharge …. "

      what?

    • +2

      Yeah - what??

  • About Time.

It is difficult enough trying to earn QFF at woolworths.

  • This is not a bargain, just a new standard offer which we don't even know its terms yet and therefore whether it is even a good offer.

Ahemmm…….I am a QFF member although missing the midddle "Frequent" word getting most points through my credit card. Only warning for the new unsuspecting is yeah great you get Qnatas points; excpet unlesss you are really a Gold memeber and alike you are going to have problems reserving air tickets and Qantas over the years just dilutes my point to the point of ridiculous that I just dont even bother trying to book for travel as can never get them anyway and just use for gift cards.
Mark my words they will just keep on diluting the number of points required to redeem for anything! So this is not a bargain as it seems but I won't neg and time will prove my thoughts.
Overprice flights and watering down on your memeber's point is a guranteed way to go down Qantas, just look at thier share price…..

Nailed it! It's no secret this program is dead. They wanted to sell it off back when the BA merger was on, but they stuffed them both up. Now members are left with an ever degrading program where the amount of points needed for a redemption is constantly increasing. With all the credit cards adding points there is not much room for earning them from flying. Fuel and tax surcharges make the flights cost the same as competitors but you are burning thousands of points for the privilege.

      • "Not much room for earning them from flying".. 80% of my points are from flying, the more you fly they even increase your point accumulation per flight by 50%, 75% and then 100%. I use my credit card as a handy supplement to help accumulate. Cant comment on the 'health' of the program but free flights, upgrades and store items are great. I think the issue is when you think a Qantas FREQUENT flyer program will benefit you when you don't actually fly.

  • I cant see how this is a bargain. I was a platinum QFF until Feb when I was bumped back to Gold because no O/S Business Class trip with work last year!! I normally get a frequent flyer O/S trip each year courtesy of all the travel I do with my work.

I fail to see how loading money onto my Qantas card and probably paying fees or having a dud exchange rate is any kind of bargain. If there was some kind of incentive program that may be worth something but realistically this is just another travel card. I'll be sticking with my 28 degrees card!!

I fail to see how your flying pattern and being bumped down to Gold has anything to do with this.

      • I am a fairly regular flyer that gets enough frequent flyer points to appreciate their value. Some of the debate by other posters has been about the devaluation of points and the need to fly rather than shop to amass enough points for any meaningful rewards. I thought that identifying myself as a regular flyer, regular user of the FF program and somebody that appreciates and uses FF points would add some weight to my position/argument/neg vote.

Spot on there, take it up without knowing what commission the exchange rate will be, and/or teller machine charges, what are they thinking, order now will tell you later, simply ridiculous.

    • Virgin are doing the same thing. QF and VA are following in Air New Zealand's footstep and trying to get market share before the other gets it.
