Groupon Australia Double charging!

So I recently bought a deal on groupon (2 days ago). They had the audacity to charge me TWICE for the SAME transaction, each charge was a day apart. Thank god the bank of the credit card I'm holding had half a brain to cancel one of the two charges. When I called the bank up, one charge was 'pending' and they said it was a bit suss. The bank has cancelled one of the two charges. Each charge was over >$100.

The company that charged me was Groupon Zurich. For shame GROUPON, FOR SHAME. Never ever again.

  • Hey muffinman you sure one wasn't just a credit card authorisation, not an actual charge? (though I don't know why they have to have two anyway)

But yeh usually the banks/credit card companies are pretty good about it if it's genuinely the merchant's error.

Agree, dodgey and annoying though coz you gotta be constantly aware of your CC bill and waste of time contacting the bank etc

    • Hey edwin, there were 2 actual charges till the bank cancelled one of them.

Seriously hate groupon now. Waste my time and I had unnecessary anxiety.

  • you know what they say.. the more the merrier.

  • My friend bought an item from Groupon Australia and his CC was charged by Groupon Swiss.

He had to pay international transaction fee, but he cant be bothered. lol

    • Just noticed the same thing on our CC statement after purchasing some accommodation at the Gold Coast via Groupon a while back. Came through as international transaction and our bank hit us with an extra $10.80 in fees.

      • +1

Just discovered that Groupon will refund these bank charges on foreign currency fees if you email them a copy of your bank statement.

    • That's the thing about Groupon that I hate with a passion! What I do was send them the email about this with attached credit card statement showing the International transaction fee. They would ask whether they can give you a 'credit' for use in your next purchase or to credit the money back to your credit card. From the 3 times that I complain, they give you the 'credit' of a higher value than my O/S transaction fee for my next purchase. So if you don't mind the hassle and buy from them often, then it's worth getting the 'credit'.
