Coles Flybuy deals running from May to July

Got these in the mail today so I presume so did everyone else but in case you didn't and are curious as to what's coming up, I took pics of the lot and threw it into the one (large) image below:

I've already price checked a number of the individual items which we're personally likely to buy each week to get additional points from. I can share that as well if anyone cares. We only started taking this flybuy thing seriously about a month ago. Last year we somehow managed to get 10,000 points (not sure how, werent trying), this year I was trying for that again but I think 20,000 will be manageable, without buying too much stuff we don't actually need. It's all just about timing the shop around those 500/750 bonus point weekends.

I've noticed there are less specials running at this time but you're gonna get ripped at the shops however you look at it, so may as well play their game and get a bunnings gift card or 2 at the end of the year as a reward, as long as you don't shop specifically for the points then I figure it's not too bad a game to play.

  • lucky you i have been using them for about 6 months, but they did not post me one out with my newsletter yeserday. Will have to phone on Monday and ask for it ;/

  • I've just signed up for flybys last week and am yet to get my head around maxing value on it. Thanks for posting.

  • I got them yesterday too. As the REP says, I don't get too excited on getting points but it is a good way to get some points while you go for some groceries every week. Last month I got like 2.000 points between AGL, Coles and the 500 bonus points for opening an account at first choice liquor.

Yeah, around about the time we got that 500 bonus points from Choice Liquor is when I started taking Flybuys seriously. The biggest thing you have to get your head around is shopping at what may be an inconvenient time, and most likely the busiest time. But that aside, we still shop the same as we always did.

The itemised bonuses above changes that strategy somewhat further but there are some real steals up there and others best avoided, if you look closely on the image linked above, you'll notice I wrote in the $ prices, but I have a fancier version here.

I've tried to include typical items people may be interested in, it by no means these are all bargains but some are, such as:

      Pataks paste for $3 = 300 points
      Hazlenut spread $4.33 = 300 points
4L Moro Extra Virgin Oil $23 = 500 points (handy if this is something you would by anyway)

I'm not sure if the Cold Power products I listed qualify, the booklet wasn't clear so I found the cheapest item that I believe qualify. I might contact Flybuys about that as I'm happy to buy the cheap refills but wouldn't spend the $15-20 for the full product.

EDIT: I loosely did the numbers and think I'll have an additional 9950 points by July. I have 6500 already so that puts us well on the way to 20,000 which is $100 bunnings gift card. I spend between $50-100 every summer on gardening products so this is my little reward for making some changes to the way we shop.

      • +2

On average it looks like you would get back around 75c in points for each items. If you are not into brands it would be worth while checking how the net price compares to Aldi -> immediate saving and no issues with redeeming points etc.

        • We do shop at Aldi for some items. The problem is, my fiance is celiac (wheat & gluten intolerant) so our options are limited at Aldi.

Thanks for doing the calculations though, that's pretty cool to know.

I should say, we still shop beyond coles. For instance we buy our meats in bulk from a local butchers, much cheaper and certainly more flavoursome. Same goes for most of our fruit & vegies. Between my partners diet requirements and a baby in the house (who only likes the expensive Huggies brand nappies) we never seem to have a problem reaching the $100/week at Coles.

  • I got a booklet of extra point offers, I perused it, decided I wouldn't buy any of them (not at full price anyway) and chucked it in the recycling. Maybe I should fish it out if there is actual value there.

I also got the six $10 off a $60 shop vouchers earlier in the week.

ETA: Looked again, still don't see the value ie. the paper towels, I normally pay $1 roll at Big W for a pack of 12. So it would cost me an extra $1.40 to get the 100 points. Pretty sure the points aren't worth that, or the hassle of buying certain products certain weeks.

What are these , Docket deals?

  • I didn't get this. Had a letter from them yesterday, but didn't include this.

Are they coupons coded for your FlyBuys account or is it just a flyer for anyone who has a FB card to use? From the image posted, doesn't look like coupons you have to take to the store and have scanned with your card.

Not much there that I would buy unfortunately.

What date in May does the promotion start?

    Thanks

    • It was a booklet of coupons which require scanning from memory. It came in the same envelope as the statement, which had other offers attached too, mainly wine and some random stuff like Kwik Gas and car servicing.

    • These coupons are specific to each flybuy member account and are not generic.

    • Yeah, as others have said, each coupon has a barcode on the back for scanning.

    • I didn't get this neither.

  • The survey deal is a score. Do it once, $5 in points, do it again for the $5 off voucher.

So I spend about $200 month at Coles in 2 shops,
    $200
    less $5 survey points
    less $10 survey vouchers
less $5 bonus points from vouchers

    Now $180
    less 5% staff
    less 5% entertainment book
With the extra points for actual groceries adds up to around 20% off I usually only buy specials at Coles.

Then 8 cents off my fuel another $6
I then take the fuel voucher to IGA and cash in at 10 cents litre another $6 saving and buy their specials.
    So that's another $24 off a month

So I can get around $60 back on a $200 spend , awesome if I get a $10 docket deal on top.

Spewing the IGA fuel special ends this weekend.

    • Pardon my ignorance but how do you buy/get
      A) 5% entertainment book and
      B) IGA 10cents a litre?

  • If you purchase the Entertainment book you can buy Coles gift cards at 5% off.

My IGA has had deal running all year that if you produce a fuel receipt and spend $30 in store they will give you 10 cents for every litre on the docket. Ends tomorrow hope they bring it back. So if you have a receipt with 100 litres on it spend $30 get $10 off.

    • Thanks Tonka,
I'll check my Entertainment book again. I've bought the Wish card for Woolies purchases, not aware Coles gift cards can also be bought.

  • My coupon book was the same as the OP. My newsletter for 1 to 10 weeks alternated with odd weeks being $10 off for $90 spend. Even weeks were 2000 points for $90 spend. So basically 10 dollars off or 10 dollars in points.

    • 2000 points for $90 ??

I feel ripped off, that's far superior to the ones I got.
…I'd have to spend $400 to get 2000 points from my coupons :(

  • good one tonka…

i feel tempted to shop at coles looking at these promotions but then if u buy at aldi or even do a price compariosn between wollies, coles & aldi you migth find cheaper items straightaway and direct saving…
but yeah my grocery is split between these 3… still haven't good 500 points which i was to get for spending $30 or more a few weeks ago..
but yeah if u spend wisely & look for deals you can save for sure.. woolies is running specials for buying 2 packs of 375ml coke for $36.. you get a 20cent per ltr off.. so if u refuel 50lts thats $10 off your price & your coke works out to be for $26 which i guess is not bad…

    • Bonus points seem to take 4weeks+ to arrive. I had 1500 arrive in one big lump the other day, a combination of points gathered within the last 2 months. They do come, just takes forever.

Atleast with this latest batch of coupons I'm not forced to do my food shopping on the weekends to get the points.
